CAKES 57 Oh, go on then! Discover what’s hot for 2024 in the wonderful world of wedding cakes BLOOMIN’ GORGEOUS Anna says, “Floral buttercream cakes are still extremely popular with my couples as well as cakes with texture, movement and flow – cakes which have a more contemporary, minimalist edge to them.” In recognising emerging trends for 2024, Nia Cummings from Cakes by Nia Cummings has created three new collections tying in with these. Her floral collection is inspired by overgrown sugar meadows. She says, “Every single bloom featured on my cakes is made from sugar. I work closely with florists to copy colours and flowers and this is certainly where my passion lies. The meadow cake trend started in 2023 is still huge with cascades, posies, rings, eruptions of flowers appearing everywhere.” Specialising in cupcake bouquets, this trend is no surprise to Carrie House from Surrey Bouqcakes who tells us, “Design wise for 2024 I’ve had a lot of requests for brighter flowers – pinks, yellows, oranges and purples. Plus, peonies, dahlias and roses are all firm favourites.” Anna Lewis Luxury Cakes OLD FAVOURITES “I predict we haven’t seen the last of the Lambeth style vintage buttercream cakes, which will still prove popular, revamped for 2024 with small, delicately adorned ribbon bows,” says Anna Lewis from Anna Lewis Luxury Cakes. “We’ll also continue to see the resurgence of large, single-tier patisserie style cakes with fresh fruit for style-led, contemporary couples.” Lisa Broughton from Wedding Cakes by Lisa Broughton is on the same page: “In 2024, wedding cake trends are taking a delightful return into the past, with a renewed fondness for vintage and retro-inspired designs. Wedding cakes are being adorned with sophisticated traditional piping, intricate lace motifs, dainty sugar flowers, and gentle pastel shades. I’m seeing a resurgence of orders that seek to recreate the timeless elegance of grandparents’ royal iced wedding cakes.” Looking to the more recent past, Gem Smith from Gorgeous Gem’s Bakery says, “Over the last few years we’ve seen a lot of semi-naked cakes with fresh flowers and this trend is likely to continue in 2024 and beyond.” Colour, colour and more colour! The brighter and bolder the better.” – Anna, Anna Lewis Luxury Cakes Surrey Bouqcakes Surrey Bouqcakes Cakes by Nia Cummings © www.ingridweel.com
