Q&A Beauty Look and feel your big-day best with help from the professionals SUMMERTIME LOVE What’s your favourite bridal look for a summer wedding? Alison says: I like all aspects of a wedding to flow together, so my favourite look for summer will depend on the style of dress, venue and the general theme of the wedding. Garden weddings can often be less formal, so flowing hair and boho looks work well. Half-up hair, waved with soft twists or braids is the perfect look for this time of year. A textured bun with a few tendrils to frame the face is another relaxed vibe I love. If your dress needs a more elegant and structured style to show it off in its full glory, you can consider having a second less formal look for the evening by letting your hair down. For make-up, I always like to enhance the natural beauty of my brides and for a summer wedding, this is key. I love a freshfaced make-up look with dewy skin. No caked-on foundation or uneven self tan! Many of my brides choose airbrush-applied foundation. It looks and feels like skin and has great durability. I like lighter colours on the eyes, some liner for definition and a few individual false lashes. A pop of colour on the cheeks and lips will complete a beautiful summer bridal make-up. My bridesmaids have a dilemma! Some are wearing their hair up, some down, but they still want to tie their looks together through their hair accessories. What can you suggest? Julie says: Each bridesmaid has her own individual style and different hair dos will suit them better depending on their hair type. Of course, you still want them all to complement each other and your wedding theme. A beautiful way to do this is with the addition of hair accessories, in particular, floral hair pins. Hair pins are so versatile and can suit any look. For example, if one of your bridesmaids has opted for a low bun, then two hair pins on the side will look lovely and if another is having a half up/half down style then you can add a few at the top. Choosing floral hair pins also means you can pick a colour that matches your palette and bride tribe’s dresses. I love working with brides to create custom hair pins according to their theme. Many love having a hair comb to complete their own look and then coordinating it with pins for the bridesmaids, so the whole party matches. Floral hair accessories also complement the bridal bouquet and add a beautiful splash of colour to any style. DRY SPELL I’m really struggling with patches of very dry skin on my face and nothing I’ve tried helps. I’m panicking that this will ruin my big-day make-up. Can you help? Becky says: I’d definitely recommend fitting in some facials before the wedding. Start these around six months before so your skin gets used to the products and they have time to make an impact. Speak with the facialist about your concern as they can examine your skin and are best placed to recommend products you should be using at home. Make sure you’re cleansing and moisturising twice a day to keep your skin healthy. Use a rich moisturiser or overnight mask in the evenings for a boost of hydration. Also incorporate a chemical exfoliator into your skincare routine to remove the dead skin. Before moisturising, you can also layer hydrating products such as hyaluronic acid for an extra layer of hydration. Drink plenty of water and keep your skin make-up free if you can so nothing is drying it out and your skincare can really benefit it.
