Whether you love the heat or loathe it, it’s important to factor in the effects of the sun when planning your dream day. While rain can be an inconvenience, it’s actually the sun that can do the most damage. With so much going on, it’s easy to forget the things you’d ordinarily do as second nature. So, make a conscious effort to stay well hydrated throughout the day. This is important for your guests too. Bubbly is lovely, but balancing the booze with plenty of water will ensure everyone stays safe and well. If you’re marrying or celebrating al fresco, gift your guests fans, parasols, sunglasses and suncream as they arrive. Or for a more sustainable approach, encourage them to bring their own in your invitations. Be sure to pack these essentials for yourself too. Additionally, ensure there’s enough shade to protect everyone from the sun’s rays. Just a little extra thought ahead of time will mean you’re all comfortable and able to enjoy every moment. I hope you’re able to pick up plenty of inspiration and tips from this issue. So, enjoy and keeeep planning! Lead Production — the team behind an unforgettable night. Your wedding should be spent with the people you love, not worrying about whether the music's too quiet or the mic's cut out. That's our job. We're an independent AV company that runs event production behind the scenes: crisp audio, beautiful lighting, staging, DJ packages, and everything else a party needs to keep the floor full past midnight. We make sure every speech is heard from the back of the room — so Dad's punchline lands the first time, not after "what did he say?" And we bring your day to life with screens for photo slideshows and vibrant digital signage that make the whole event pop. We cut our teeth in live music and touring, so we run a tight ship: on schedule, every time, with your guests' experience — and your peace of mind — always first. Let's make your night one to remember. Get in touch. 07850 659522 • Email: info@leadproductions.co.uk • @leadproductions_ leadproductions.co.uk

Toasters are out and more meaningful, lasting alternatives are in. This is where St Leonard’s-based Liz Emtage Ceramics comes in. She creates bespoke, handmade ceramic pieces designed to become family heirlooms. From personalised wedding gifts to custom items that can be used on the day, her pieces will be treasured long after the wedding. “With many couples moving away from disposable favours, I’m seeing growing interest in personalised, small-batch ceramic favours, heirloom-quality gifts for bridal parties, and custom pieces that double as décor and keepsakes,” Liz tells us. Find your personalised piece at lizemtageceramics.com Health is the new wealth The most precious thing you can give someone, especially on the biggest day of their lives, is a moment to breathe. Enter the Quiet Blue 10ml spray – a little bottle of calm, designed to be carried, used and remembered. Where the traditional favour is admired for a moment before being forgotten by morning, this spray from Chichester-based brand Quiet Blue earns its place as a daily ritual and is available in four fragrances. A spritz settles pre-aisle nerves, revives guests between ceremony and celebrations and becomes a small sensory keepsake long after the flowers have faded. Each spray can be finished with a personalised label featuring your names, wedding date and a word that matters. WHIRLWIND A winter Not wanting to wait the usual 18 months to two years for a wedding date, Emma and Ant planned their beautiful big day in just four months Images courtesy of Soul of My Lens Emma and Ant connected online and met for a coffee at their local farm shop. They soon knew there was something there, and the dates kept coming. One of the early ones was a trip to Spitalfields Market where they popped into a photo booth but missed their first two shots. Luckily, their second visit to the same booth on a separate occasion went much more smoothly – it was the time Ant proposed. The couple had their sights set on an intimate wedding. However, as Ant is a drummer it was important to him that they got the music right, which meant including a couple of bands plus his own. “All the smaller venues we saw would have made it a bit of a squeeze, but Balcombe Place was perfect,” Emma says. “It was intimate, romantic and had enough space without feeling cavernous.” When Emma and Ant got engaged, they knew they didn’t want to wait years to get married. Balcombe Place had a date available in February, so they went for it! Happily, the venue had a fantastic list of recommended suppliers the couple could lean on. With a winter date chosen, they selected a fitting palette of burgundy and dusky pink. The theme included a few throwbacks to important moments in their relationship, such as photos, cocktails named after their dogs, a burger van from their village, and of course, Hartley doughnuts from the location of their first date. Once the florist knew the colours, she ran with it, creating arrangements for the foot of the stairs that could be moved to the table ends for the wedding breakfast, and additional bud vases for the tables. The latter were also used for Friday night’s dinner. Emma’s mum collects antique candelabras, so these were also dotted along the tables. Meanwhile, for a personal touch, each guest was gifted a photo of them with the happy couple in a frame for their place setting as wedding favours. Emma’s mum had the idea to style the music room as a jazz club for the evening reception with small circular tables placed around the edge of the dance floor. “It was one of my favourite parts of the wedding,” Emma shares. With the wedding date on the horizon, Emma was told she’d struggle to find a dress in time. But then she discovered Minster Bridal in Chichester: “We were just so well looked after,” she remembers. They helped her find a sample dress in her size and she took it away then and there. “It was a rollercoaster of a day!” Ant hired his suit from Moss and his party were dressed to match. Hartley (their beloved fur baby, named after their first date location) wore a suit from Etsy, while the pageboy looked super smart in his own suit from Next. The Postmodern Pops played in the Morning Room as the evening guests arrived. “One of our only regrets was that we didn’t do our first dance with them so we could have joined everyone on the dance floor earlier,” Emma shares. The sparkler walk was the subject of many of the bride’s favourite photos. Leading across the terrace, it brought everyone back to the Music Room where Ant’s band played a few songs to get the party started. Dawson Avenue then took over and played into the evening. Reflecting on the big day, it’s the ceremony that will stay with Emma: “When I had the dress on and I was waiting to go down, I was totally overcome with panic and convinced it wouldn’t happen. The registrar even struggled to get me to confirm the spelling of my name! But once I saw Ant at the end of the aisle and our eyes met, there was no one else in the room, and no nerves. It was just one of a million moments that validated why I married him, and what an excellent choice that was!” REAL WEDDINGS 29

ROMANCE Ioana and Rob gave their day a jungle theme with dinosaur accents inspired by the groom’s love of Jurassic Park Images courtesy of Pippa Heath Photography A roaring 34

REAL WEDDINGS 35

Ioana and Rob met while working on ITV’s Grace at Brighton Racecourse. When they discovered their shared love of dogs, chocolate biscuits and Pimm’s, they became nearly inseparable. After being together for eight months, the couple decided to leave their jobs and flats and go travelling together across Central America. “Shortly after their return to the UK, Rob popped the question and here we are!” Ioana tells us. The pair envisioned an elevated but comfortable wedding day. “We wanted to enjoy our day with our guests and for everyone to feel relaxed enough to be themselves (we love them for who they are, not just their best-behaviour selves), but still wanted it to feel special,” Ioana explains. They said “I do” at Hurstpierpoint College Chapel, a place dear to the bride’s heart since she attended the College and later worked there. Stanmer House then offered the perfect countryside manor venue for the following celebrations. With a jungle theme inspired by Rob’s love of Jurassic Park, the couple styled their venue with gold dinosaur accents for a vibrant, fun vibe. Each place name was held by a mini dinosaur, which doubled up well as wedding favours. A dinosaur logo featured on the stationery and signage and the couple thrifted dinosaur toys, spray painting them gold and combining them with faux and fresh plants for maximum impact. Ioana’s 36

mum was appointed the wedding’s creative director and ran with the jungle theme. The bride also got involved making placemats from premium junglethemed fabric. Ioana visited both bridal boutiques and pre-loved wedding dress shops in a bid to find her dream gown, but nothing felt right. “I always felt like I was dressing up or playing a part and never truly felt like me,” she explains. Until, that is, she saw a video of the Nova Cocotte dress by Vivienne Westwood on Instagram and fell in love. She went to try it on assuming it would be another in the long line of rejected dresses, but instead knew right away it was the one. However, it was completely out of budget, even the pre-loved version. So, Ioana took matters into her own hands. “I decided to make it myself,” she tells us. “I won’t pretend it was an easy journey, but I’m beyond proud that I walked down the aisle in a dress that I made completely myself.” Rob went back to Ireland to get his suit made, while his best man wore a suit of his own. The two wore matching ties. Ioana’s sister Eva was maid-ofhonour and was dressed in navy blue. They had a dress ready to go, but, deciding she wasn’t happy with it, she ordered another 48 hours before the wedding. “She looked stunning,” says Ioana. “It was absolutely the right call. Like me, she just wanted to feel like herself.” Immediately after the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed tea and cake in the Chapel’s inner quad. “It was a gorgeous space and the food was incredible,” Ioana shares. She’d spent a year thrifting antique fine English china from car boot sales and charity shops for the occasion. “This was exclusively a Barry’s Tea-only zone due to Rob’s Irish heritage. He has very serious feelings about a proper cup of tea,” she continues. For the wedding breakfast, all assembled sat down to a family-style meal. “The food at Stanmer House was phenomenal,” Ioana shares. Later in the evening when it was time for a top-up, bacon baps were served, followed by cheesy chips as a further latenight snack. After dinner, guests played some silly party games fuelled by mojitos, switching up the vibe and avoiding a lull. A band provided the evening’s entertainment and the couple put out Disney sunglasses along with glow sticks to aid the party atmosphere. There was also a live painter to paint guests, which proved a real crowd pleaser. The highlight of the day for Ioana was taking a walk with her new husband at golden hour. “We took time for ourselves and spoke to each other about the day and how we felt,” she remembers.
