For fans of Netflix’s House of Guiness, it may interest you to know that Lord Moyne, Walter Guiness, was the third son of Edward Guiness (portrayed by Louis Partridge in the series). It’s easy to mistake the property for medieval, as despite being built in the early 20th century, it is in fact made up of medieval components brought together from all over the country. The site’s 13th century chapel is the only entirely original structure from the period. During the Guiness’ ownership the chapel was restored to its former glory, given its importance as the origin of the main property’s name, which stems from the granting of the lands around the house to the Abbey of Seez (in Normandy) in the 12th century. The Abbey built the chapel we see today in the 13th century and sent an overseer, or bailiff, to ensure its English possessions were properly managed. The home of this ecclesiastical financial administrator became known as The Bailiff’s Court. Our editor Kelly went along to see the chapel during an open day, since this impressive space has recently been licensed for wedding ceremonies. As of 1st June 2026, the chapel will be able to host “I dos” with up to 65 guests, with an ideal configuration of 40 seated and 25 standing, or 40 total, who’ll make their way to the music room for post-vow dining. As the formerly religious site is deconsecrated, you’re welcome to decorate it as you wish. As you’ll see from Kelly’s video tour, the space had been beautifully styled on the day by Amanda from Hire Your Day. The weddings team at Bailiffscourt love to say, “Yes”! Their aim is to give their couples experiences that are a little bit different from the norm, so whatever you have in mind, they’ll try to make it happen for you. The couple were away on a mini break in Budapest to celebrate Lou’s birthday and when Charlene insisted on enjoying their drinks outside in the cold along the river Danube, Lou began to grow suspicious. “Anyone would think you’re about to propose,” she said, patting Charlene down. At which point Charlene produced the ring box and did just that. The couple fell in love with Field Place as soon as they arrived. “We had six months to plan our big day but with the help of the team it was all possible and we had everything we wanted,” Charlene says. “Our plan was to get married among the beautiful gardens where our daughter, Darcie, could run around with the other children and have as much fun as the adults.” The witty theme featured a nod to the couple’s policing careers with tables named after various offences such as ‘drunk and disorderly’, ‘lawfully at large’, and ‘breach of peace.’ The palette included baby blue in memory of their son, Teddy, who was born prematurely with a heart defect in April 2023, and the couple displayed a QR code allowing guests to donate to the British Heart Foundation. Joanne from Elegant Stationery brought Charlene and Lou’s ideas to life using their baby blue palette and a thin blue line down the centre of the table plan to honour lost colleagues. The ceremony, led by celebrant Amanda began with a shot of strawberry Tequilla Rose shared with guests, and included the couple’s story. “This was the highlight of the day for us,” Charlene tells us. “Our celebrant got to know us and made our ceremony personal.” Next, newlyweds Charlene and Lou, accompanied by their nearest and dearest, headed out to the gardens for canapés and prosecco, and had laid out garden games to keep everyone entertained. It was then time to move into the barns where everyone enjoyed a three-course wedding breakfast of roast pork. The singing waiters were a huge surprise to guests and brought smiles to everyone’s faces. During the first dance, a drag queen interrupted within the first 30 seconds, as a further surprise for guests and belted out some top tunes to get the party started ready for the DJ. Charlene wore a beautiful white dress made by Katie from Velvet Birdcage in Findon. Katie also came up with the idea of wearing a baby blue petticoat beneath her dress, which would be seen when dancing. “Within three months my dress was made and when I tried it on for the first time, I fell in love with it,” Charlene remembers. Lou wore a white fishtail gown also from Velvet Birdcage. It was the third she tried on and instantly knew it was the one. Although it was the total opposite of anything she had in mind she could imagine walking down the aisle in it. The bridesmaids were dressed in long, flowing baby blue gowns, which could all be worn differently and carried bright yellow sunflowers, a flower the couple gift to Teddy on special occasions. “They brought vibrancy and even brought the sun out on the day,” Charlene remembers. After Kyle proposed to Liv at her baby shower in 2023, the couple started looking for the dream venue to host their big day. They fell in love with the beautiful Southlands Barn thanks to its modern rustic vibes and romantic setting. Plus, “The staff were amazing and very accommodating,” Liv explains. The pair designed their wedding day around a modern, country yet classy palette of beige and black highlighted with dried flowers, beige tablecloths and black and gold centrepieces. The hearty and delicious American-style barbecue feast wedding breakfast included brisket, ribs, wings, pulled pork, cornbread, mac and cheese and potato salad; mouthwatering fare to keep hunger well and truly at bay throughout the celebrations. 36
The beautiful bride wore Olive by Jane Hill. “I loved the way it sparkled in the changing room lights,” Liv shares. Her groom meanwhile was dressed in a palette-fitting beige suit from Moss paired with a dark green tie and pocket square with his groomsmen attired to match. The bridesmaids were chic in black satin dresses. When it came to entertainment for the day the rodeo bull, a surprise for guests, created much hilarity, while the live band made sure the party was in full swing during the evening. When asked for her top wedding-planning tip, Liv had some sage words of advice: “Leave it as late as possible to send out the invitations. We did our save-the-dates a year before the wedding and ended up drifting apart from so many people.” REAL WEDDINGS 37
