Your Sussex Wedding - December/January 2023/2024 (Issue 106)

Grace and Mark met through work and decided to give coupledom a shot at the Christmas party back in 2016. Fast forwarding four years we find the couple on top of Cheddar Gorge near Glastonbury, where Mark popped the question. The original plan was to propose a few months earlier, while they on holiday in South Africa, but unfortunately Covid put a stop to that. But the new version on home soil was definitely an incredible surprise for Grace who of course said, “Yes”! The date was set for 27th August 2023 at Brookfield Barn, which they’d been drawn to by the lake and beautiful views. Here, Grace tells us all about W-day... SETTING THE SCENE Armed with a dusky blue and gold palette and subtle Harry Potter theme, the couple set about planning their special day. Guests’ wedding favours were key-shaped bottle openers, reminiscent of the flying keys from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Meanwhile, the table plan featured blue and gold wax G&M seals, which complemented the overall colour palette. These also appeared on the elegant place names. The couple’s faux-flower centrepieces included blue and white flowers with foliage that had decorated the ceremony aisle earlier in the day. The wedding party’s flowers were fresh and the bouquets, buttonholes and corsages all featured blue delphiniums, white roses and eucalyptus. Grace and Mark opted for a two-tier semi-naked cake with the largest tier being Victoria sponge, and the next carrot cake. This was accompanied by some delicious raspberry ripple and chocolate cupcakes. Grace and her mum put in a lot of hard work creating many of the finishing touches including an order-of-the-day pallet sign, sign post, menus complete with wax seal, Harry Potter wands, dried petal confetti and more. Everyone enjoyed a barbecue for the couple’s wedding breakfast with chocolate brownie and vanilla cheesecake for dessert. LOOKING THE PART Grace looked stunning in a lace sheath double-train ivory wedding dress. “I chose it due to its hourglass-enhancing shape and subtle shimmer,” she says. She wore her hair up in a boho-style textured low bun with a hair vine and simple elbow-length veil. Grace wore her engagement ring on the opposite hand, moving it back to the correct finger after the ceremony once the wedding ring was in place. She also accessorised with a necklace similar to the Heart of the Ocean from Titanic. She wisely chose to wear wedding trainers from Lace & Favour – Oakley. Mark wore a slim fit grey suit with tan check by Antique Rogue. He paired this with a white shirt, mustard-coloured tie and white handkerchief as his pocket square. His groomsmen all wore mid-grey suits with white shirts, dusky blue ties, and white pocket squares with blue flowers. Grace’s bridesmaids were dressed in dusky blue gowns from Coast. They were all the same colour but different styles. The ladies all accessorised with white Converse. 33 REAL WEDDING
