Your Sussex Wedding - Decmeber 2022/January 2023 (Issue 100)

THE THEATRE OF CIVIL CEREMONIES Fresh, charismatic personality Mark Inscoe has entered the expanding network of independent civil celebrants and is looking forward to creating and presenting personalised ceremonies as Civil Celebrant Sussex. Having enjoyed a long and successful career as an actor, Mark’s background is in musical theatre and has appeared in the original London casts of Sunset Boulevard, Grand Hotel and Priscilla Queen of the Desert. Most recently he portrayed Florenz Ziegfeld in Funny Girl in Paris for five months. Mark is also a voice-over artist and has been heard narrating various TV documentaries, voicing characters on the BAFTA-winning game Divinity: Original Sin II and was the voice of the E Harmony commercial campaign for three years. In fact, this voice work was a lifesaver throughout Covid lockdowns, but like many, this period of disruption forced a career rethink. Mark was inspired by theatre colleague Alison who moved into the civil ceremony industry about six years ago and having the chance to see her in action brought the realisation that this would be hugely rewarding work. Alison’s advice was invaluable and led Mark to Civil Ceremonies Ltd where he completed two Level 3 diplomas and has now qualified to create and deliver customised ceremonies for wedding celebrations, renewal of vows and more. “Meeting clients and the writing process and presentation of ceremonies is the perfect work to utilise the skill set and life experience gained over decades of being an actor. Civil celebrancy is a sort of theatre in many ways,” he says. Mark has lived in Brighton for 20 years, and has been part of its vibrant, diverse and forward-thinking community, which now offers the ideal location to launch his new business. East Sussex wine estate Everflyht has recently released its debut wines, the Brut Sparkling NV (£28) and Sparkling Rosé de Saignée 2019 (£40). The former is a blend of pino noir and chardonnay, with a small percentage of pinto meunier bringing structure and complexity. A portion of the blend has spent time in old and new oak, with 20 per cent of the blend made up of Everflyht’s reserve wine. Meanwhile, the Rosé de Saignée 2019 is a blend of 60 per cent pino noir and 40 per cent pinor meunier and made in a fruit-forward style with a portion of the blend matured on lees in old oak barrels for added depth and character. Both make for a delightful glass of bubbly to toast your big day with. Owners Sam and Ben Ellis play a hands-on role with the viticulture and winemaking, working closely with general manager Luke Spalding. Sam says, “We wanted to make our own unique style of premium English sparkling wine, with plenty of fruit, flavour and individuality. We’re so excited that this Christmas we’ll finally be able to enjoy our own wines with friends and family!” A late release and a Blanc de Noirs are expected in 2023/24.
