Your South Wales Wedding - March/April 2024 (Issue 96)

HOT TOPIC: Wedding worries Our experts solve your problems AL FRESCO ROMANCE We’re thinking of getting married outside. What should we take into consideration when looking for a venue? Before booking an outdoor wedding, we’d recommend keeping in mind different weather conditions, particularly because of how unpredictable it can be in the UK! Keep in mind that your vows need to be clear so that your guests can hear you without any outdoor noise interruptions. At Hensol Castle, we have thought of this and built in a PA system and microphone to our bandstand and guest area to overcome this. If you’re worried about getting your dress dirty on your special day, look at the distance from the venue to the outdoor ceremony area. For example, here at Hensol Castle, there are only a few steps to our outdoor ceremony area, and the path is always kept clean and maintained to avoid this. The team at Hensol Castle www.hensolcastle.com HOP INTO SPRING What flowers would you suggest for a spring wedding? If you’re lucky enough to be getting married in the spring, there are so many incredible flowers to choose from! From the end of January onwards, the most amazing Icelandic poppies are available (they are grown in Italy), and then you have stunning scented white narcissi, the prettiest of pale blue grape hyacinths, ranunculus, anemones, tulips in every colour and huge branches of spring blossom, which are perfect for creating drama with your wedding installations. The light in spring calls for softer colours, pale apricot tulips, delicate lime viburnum and branches of pale lilac. If you love roses, then these are available, as they are grown in South Africa and Columbia. Many of them are grown by small flower farmers, much like our own in the UK. The communities rely on them for their income. They are then put on passenger planes to fly to the UK twice a week. Spring flowers are always joyful after a long winter, so choose seasonal blooms; they will be stunning! Rhian Rees www.wildandfabulousflowers.com www.yolandakingdon.co.uk EXPERT ADVICE 55
