AT FIRST swipe Love After matching online, Becca and Lewis quickly became inseparable Images courtesy of Lucy Parker Photography Becca and Lewis met in 2016 through a dating app. They discovered that they had a mutual friend in common, and their connection quickly grew. “Lewis’ blue eyes and warm smile stood out to me as well as his ability to make me laugh at anything,” says Becca. “I knew he was going to be my better half from the first time we met.” Lewis proposed in Dublin in February 2019. “He had taken me away as a surprise birthday present,” shares the bride. “Dublin has always been one of my favourite places, so I didn’t expect the proposal, but it was perfect.” Here she shares some of her favourite moments from their big day... 31 REAL WEDDINGS
Our cake was made up of Lotus, lemon and poppy seed, and chocolate and raspberry. To tie in with our autumnal theme, we chose eucalyptus and roses for our flowers. I had a special orange rose in the middle of my bouquet to represent Lewis’ late dad and a bouquet charm for my late dadcu. Our centrepieces were pumpkin vases filled with corn and pampas grass which lightened the red sashes running along the tables. We had beautiful food provided by The Orangery. We chose a three-course meal, canapés and an evening buffet. We gave our guests Welsh cakes in the shape of hearts as favours. We visited The Orangery in August 2020; it was a beautiful day, and as we walked into the ceremony hall, the sun was shining and it was just breathtaking. The ladies at The Orangery were amazing, nothing was too much trouble, and we were put at ease with every visit we had. Debra and Sophie honestly thought of everything, and from the first time meeting them to the big day, they were by our sides, making sure everything went smoothly. 32
On the morning of the wedding, we were both nervous but excited to marry each other as we are literally two halves. As soon as we were together during the ceremony, it didn’t feel like anyone else was in the room, it was just us in our little bubble. Lewis and I also booked a photo booth; we were given a copy of the photos after the wedding, which showed all the fun our guests had dressing up. It was such a lovely touch, and we loved looking at it the day after. We picked the music that played throughout the day, and in the evening, we had a DJ from Joio Entertainment who was amazing. They put so much thought into when to play the right track and how to get everyone up on the dancefloor and were so attentive with the lights and speakers. The bridesmaids opted for burgundy on-the-shoulder cross-over dresses. Lewis chose a navy tweed suit and a beige waistcoat with a burgundy bow tie from Dyfed Menswear in Cross Hands. I wore an embodied ivory dress. It was beautiful, and I’ve always wanted sleeves, so as soon as I saw it advertised, I had to try it on. It was from Chapel Bridal in Carmarthen; Lesley was just amazing and quickly put me at ease. I decided to accessorise it with a subtle crystal waistband which elevated my waist. 33 REAL WEDDINGS
For our honeymoon, we went to the Dominican Republic for 14 days, which was breathtaking. It was everything I’d ever dreamed of, as I’d never been to the Caribbean before. We had so much fun exploring and spending time with each other, just laughing and making memories. Our top tip for any couple is to enjoy every minute, have faith that you have planned and prepared everything and make the most of it. You’ll have opinions and questions in the run-up to the wedding, but just remember it won’t matter on the day. My parents made the planning process extra special and helped make our big day happen. The best men did a hilarious slideshow and story about Lewis. THERE’S BETWEEN USmagic Kerry and Huw incorporated their love of Disney into their big day at Rhosygilwen Images courtesy of Mumford Photography Kerry and Huw both swiped right on Tinder and found that they were a perfect match. They exchanged numbers and started talking back in 2014. “I was working in a hotel in Aberaeron at the time,” says Kerry. “One Thursday evening, I invited Huw down to the hotel after a shift, and we ended up talking until 2am! We became official in December 2014, and the rest is history.” Huw popped the question on Christmas Day in 2018. “It was our first Christmas in our new home together,” shares the bride. “We were in our pyjamas in the kitchen, and he’d bought a personalised heat-revealing mug, and on it, he’d written: ‘Will you marry me?’. I was really surprised, and don’t think I finished my tea!” Here the bride shares some of her favourite moments from their big day... 37 REAL WEDDINGS
Our favours were Welsh cakes made locally by Truly Scrumptious Bakes. To fit in with our Disney theme, they were in the shape of Mickey Mouse’s head in see-through bags with ‘Be Our Guest’ tags tied with string. To continue our theme, we had Disney-inspired centrepieces that were designed and made by Truly Madly Deeply. Catherine is a creative friend who kindly supplied us with everything we needed to make our tables look gorgeous. Our family friend, Elen, made our wedding cake. It included vanilla, chocolate and raspberry sponges with subtle Disney decorations and a Mickey and Minnie personalised topper. Every part of Rhosygilwen was beautiful, and I could imagine how our photos would turn out in my head. The reality was even better, with the large daisy walkway, John’s very well-kept gardens and, of course, the mansion itself. The main attraction was knowing we’d be able to decorate the Oak Hall however we wanted and hire a caterer of our choosing – it was a very personalised experience! We created our table plan using a mirror; it included the names of the tables decorated with a floral border. All of the text was written in Disney fonts, which was supplied by a small business I found on Etsy called Nicky Noodles Doodles. Although not local, Nicky was excellent to deal with and supplied most of our stationery. Expressions Florists provided our wedding flowers. Julie was amazing from start to finish, and the blooms were everything I had imagined and more! 38
Steve Briers Disco Roadshow, based in Pembrokeshire, was our DJ for the evening reception. He was fantastic, friendly, and very accommodating. We also had Sarahjane Absalom play the harp for our guests in the chapel and upon arrival at Rhosygilwen. Walking down the aisle to Sarahjane playing Can You Feel the Love Tonight on the harp was like a dream. Huw wore a Marc Darcy suit. He chose a tweed check three-piece design in a tan colour. With his groomsmen being dotted all over the world, it was difficult to get them all together, so they wore their own suits, and I liked how it looked in the photos. Cwtch Catering in Carmarthen provided our food. I honestly can’t thank Marc and Diana enough for everything they did for us. Our guests, 10 months on, still talk about how nice the food was. They were so good with the logistics of having a wedding later on in the day. Everything ran perfectly and not one person had a bad thing to say about their food. Steilio Dots Styling supplied our chair decorations which were white covers with grey chiffon hoods and silver broaches. My dress was called Lena by Enzoani. I’d seen a couple of dresses online, but being a bit of a tomboy, I was pretty clueless. I couldn’t have been happier with my dress which was actually chosen by the lovely lady in Laura May Bridal in Cardiff. I accessorised it with the largest tiara in the shop, some small, dangly earrings and a simple necklace. My bridesmaids opted for grey multiway gowns from Infinity Dress. Not only were they affordable, but the girls could wear them however they felt comfortable. 39 REAL WEDDINGS
