The mixed emotions felt at the end of the year can leave an odd taste in the mouth. On one hand, you’re excited for what next year might bring; on the other, a surge of sadness at another goodbye. The signing off of final projects before the Christmas break and everyone detailing their New Year’s Eve plans feels like it comes around quicker each year. But what about our brides, as the year ends? Chances are, you’ll be leaving 2025 on a high, knowing that in 2026 you’ll be entering your bridal era – to that I say a massive congratulations! Ahead of you is a year of final planning, celebrations, and the happiest day of your life. This will be your last Christmas as someone who has to tick “single” on official government forms. Plus, you can officially introduce your partner as your spouse – which certainly carries more weight to it. The engagement period seems to pass by in a flash and before you know it, your new passport is coming through the letter box with your shiny new name. That’s why I always recommend making the most of being fiancés. Bask in it for as long as you can and don’t rush to “I do” – there will be plenty of time, after the wedding, to relish in newlywed bliss. Happy birthday, Expressions Wedding Florists! Expressions Wedding Florists is celebrating 25 years of business. A massive achievement that goes to show how loved they are by brides and grooms across South Wales. We reached out to Julie, the owner of Expressions Wedding Florists, for a comment on this momentous achievement: “Who could have imagined that just six months after leaving floristry college, an impromptu shopping trip in my local town of Aberystwyth would lead me to discover an empty shop – one that turned out to be the perfect space for a florist business? That chance encounter set me on a path that, 25 years later, has seen my business evolve from a bustling high street shop to a homebased studio, situated on a working farm with its own micro cutting garden.” Julie continues: “I approach each wedding as though it were my very first, with a commitment to understanding and interpreting each couple’s unique vision. Who knows where the business may go in the future, but with 25 years under its belt, I’m sure it will meet the challenges thrown at it!” Visit expressionsflorists.co.uk for more information. Style The ultimate guide on wedding trends and décor choices FOR THE AISLE Picking a theme for your wedding is one of the hardest decisions to make when planning. There are too many choices and the overwhelming fear of getting it wrong is impossible to ignore. To help with the process, let’s break it down into the current trends and what each of these entail. The themes can be broken down into the following: rococo, minimalist, bright and bold, beach, country/western, vintage, and botanical. Each theme has different requirements in the décor department, and each requires plenty of thought and planning. For example, minimalist sounds like it would be the easiest; however, the décor needed to fill the venue and make it feel like a cohesive look is quite involved. ROCOCO This theme can be quite easily defined as any episode of Bridgerton; we’re talking soft pastels, ornate décor pieces and everything 18th-century inspired. Rococo is an interesting theme; it’s elegant and ornate without being over the top (which I appreciate sounds like a contradiction). It’s all about finding the balance between pearl elements and gold detailing, offset by soft pastels and muted tones. This theme is very romantic and would certainly suit an editorial photography style. However, this theme could be considered “out of date” in a few years, when the trends move on. For décor, you’ll want to reach for fine china with gold detailing, long-stem candles, candelabras and intricate details throughout the venue and on the cake. Lots of couples typically reach for ostentatious gold-framed mirrors for their table plan and welcome sign and will choose a venue that exudes 18th-century luxury. Rich textures for the bridal party would also contribute to the overall look of the day, with fabrics such as silk, lace, velvet and satin being key players. Some well-placed classical musical players throughout the venue would do wonders to finish off the look and bring the Bridgerton look to life. BRIGHT AND BOLD A minimalist’s nightmare, we have bright and bold wedding themes – a sensory explosion made to exhilarate. These weddings have pops of colour throughout, typically opting for more than one bright hue to set off the theme. If it’s not a two-colour mix, then it’s a rainbow (in either pastels or bold) to bring the venue to life. The stationery will be just as bold and may even lean on exciting patterns to complement the colours used throughout. This theme, whilst better suited to blank canvas venues, can be applied anywhere and could even turn a dated castle into a disco-party fever. Other décor pieces for these events include brightly coloured candles, gold candlestick holders, stand-out charger plates, balloons, and fun textures such as streamers, pompoms and disco balls. This theme doesn’t step away from the traditional elements but will simply add a fun spin on them! 14
MINIMALIST These weddings feature mono-flower displays and simple colour themes using muted/light colours such as pale sage, blush pink, and cornflower blue. The stationery used would be just as simple and would use minimal details to not overwhelm. The table displays would still utilise elegant décor, such as charger plates, breathtaking flower displays, and intricate glassware; however, this would all be in the same colour theme (invariably white). There may also be smaller candles or fairy lights used to highlight these areas. A fantastic way to bring the wow factor at minimalist weddings is through the ceiling displays – off the ground and out of the way, these are great spaces to bring attention to the room through draping and fairy lights. Another way to inject some romance into this event is with candles – the effortless beauty and glow are versatile for any venue. Candles can be used down the aisle, in the blank corners of the venue or littered by windows. The ‘clean girl aesthetic’ that is currently ruling online is the epitome of minimalist weddings. Chic and understated, they demand attention through well-placed flower displays and soft lighting. BEACH Lots of couples want to replicate an abroad wedding at home, and a beach theme is a fantastic way of doing this. Lots of venues across the UK have phenomenal beaches that you can get married on and would make for the ideal Europeaninspired wedding. Beaches can be very easily adorned with an eye-catching ceremony arch or moongate, preceded by plenty of flowers and lanterns to pave the way to newlywed bliss. These weddings feature lots of rattan and will even incorporate seashell elements to bring the theme to life. Typically held during the summer, these weddings can lean on the long summer nights to host their celebration outdoors. Take the party in a tropical direction with the placement of tiki torches, fairy lights, and various tropical flowers. The colour theme for these weddings invariably leans towards muted, letting the scenery speak for itself, but can also play on bright colours to highlight the tropic-inspired flowers. The food at a beach-themed wedding can contribute a lot to the overall atmosphere; barbeques, spit roasts, and finger foods are ideal for this setting. With evening entertainment of fire dancers, acoustic music and bonfires, your guests will feel transported. VINTAGE Vintage weddings love tradition and will always stick to this throughout. We’re talking church candles along with classic flower displays of roses, gypsophila, and cosmos. Fairy lights also play a key role in vintage weddings, especially if those with this theme choose a vintage photographer – you need things that will add light and texture to film photography, and fairy/festoon lights are the perfect addition. Elements at these weddings hark back to times before 1920’s fashion, Campervans, record players, antique frames, and candelabra. These weddings typically look good in manor houses but can also extend to woodland settings, for their classically romantic atmosphere. However, these weddings wouldn’t be without their modern additions, such as antique phone audio guest books and photo booths. For wedding stationery, try an old-style newspaper as a nod to the days of wedding announcements. Failing that, floral designs have a timeless feel. Pearl details are well placed here, whether it’s as crockery or as accessories for the bride. Tablescapes typically follow the classic design of white and floral pieces with candles and lots of lace. COUNTRY/WESTERN There has been a steep increase in cowboy love in recent years, which has led to a sharp uptick in people choosing a western theme for their nuptials. These weddings utilise converted barns to bring their cowgirl dreams to life with hay bales, rattan, pampas, and fairy lights. Wedding accessories may even include cowboy boots and hats to really sell the image of a western romance. Weddings with this theme will also choose summer to celebrate, making the most of the long days to party outside. These weddings scrap the idea of rigid table layouts and will offer large banquet tables to create a more inclusive seating plan. Décor will feature rattan and pampas, burnt oranges, denim blue, linen, fairy lights, and lots of natural textures such as wood. A converted barn has lots of space to fill, especially in the top half – making draping and festoon lights the perfect addition for wow factor and space filling. This also makes the room feel more like an event, paired with well-dressed tables, flowers, and wooden accessories. To bring pops of colour and interest to the collection of textures, many couples include neon lights that can later adorn the walls of their marital home. Not only does it add interest but also creates a fantastic photo opportunity for your guests. BOTANICAL This wedding theme is a fairytale turned reality, in the form of a woodland wedding. Décor for this theme includes an abundance of flowers and foliage with greenery throughout the ceremony and reception. Typically taking place in woodland venues, nature’s beauty plays a leading role in the design and space filling. These weddings will use wooden elements, in keeping with the venue, and fairy lights to bring extra romance to the atmosphere. Some vintage-inspired rugs may be used to pave the way to newlywed bliss, with logs used as seating for the ceremony. Alternatively, orangeries make for a great indoor option for botanical weddings, with the feel of an extravagant greenhouse, whilst keeping the chill off in the autumn. Banquet tables with lots of candles and flowers are perfect for the reception, with festoon lights above to guide the way. Colours for this theme will normally rely on earth tones, such as deep greens, browns, dark yellows, or pastels to match wildflowers. The organised chaos that nature emanates is ideal for these weddings, with entangled flowers and foliage on wedding stationery, table décor and bouquets. VENUE STYLING 17

LOT OF LOVE A whole Kate and Cara’s colourful wedding made for a spectacular day at The Wholehouse Images courtesy of When Charlie Met Hannah Kate and Cara met at Cardiff University while studying for their undergraduate degrees. Cara lived with Kate’s brother, Sam, for the first two years of her degree, and when Kate joined her brother, she started to build a beautiful relationship with Cara. Kate popped the question to Cara after they moved to Swansea. Kate adds, “Our favourite walk during lockdown became the one between Langland and Caswell Bay, so it felt like the perfect spot to propose after a meal in our favourite Swansea restaurant, Nishimura. We then headed home, where all our family and best friends waited for us to celebrate.” Kate and Cara got married at The Wholehouse, choosing the venue because they adored the vibe, and Cara grew up a few towns over from Talgarth – making it feel like a home away from home. The venue offered the classic areas and photo opportunities, but it also had a party bus, hot tub, assault course, and zipline! Talk about a lot of bang for your buck. They both decided they wanted their wedding to be bright and joyful – with Kate’s love for pink, this made for a natural inclusion in the décor. They paired pink with orange and red – a bold choice but one that clearly worked! This also paired perfectly with the design of the venue and its iconic wall reading “a whole lot of love”. The theme of the wedding was seen in their stationery and in lots of other sentimental details throughout the venue. Cara adds, “Kate loves to sew, so she made a pink and red velvet banner, complete with our names and wedding date. We hung this in the ceremony room, above our fabulous frilly cake!” Their wedding breakfast scene was set with long tables, decorated with pink, red, and orange candles, and dotted with little vases filled with flowers that Kate’s mum had been growing. They also had an abundance of disco balls, some hanging and others littered across the tables to add an extra wow factor. At the time of getting married, they had been together 14 years, which just so happened to be the exact number of tables at the breakfast, so these were appropriately named after the respective years and marked with a picture of the couple from that time. Kate wore a beautiful dress, which had custom sleeves and a leg slit, pairing it with stand-out pink platform heels from Nodaleto. Kate adds, “I wanted a big dress with a chic edge, so I went for a big skirt in a simple fabric. I also knew I wanted to be comfortable and wanted to be able to move freely. I wanted it to be totally unique to me, so I came up with the idea for making and adding the sleeves.” Cara wore a tailored suit and shirt from Percival Menswear and completed the look with Dr. Martens. They had lots of bridesmaids and ensured they all wore something they felt comfortable in. They all selected their own dresses in one of the three wedding colours, and the bridesmen wore beige suits to break up the colour and match Kate and Cara’s fathers. Their special day was highlighted with good food, music, drinks and a beaming sun. They also tried their hands at the assault course, and Kate’s 90-year-old grandad even had a go on the zip wire! But it wasn’t assault courses or zip wires that stuck out as a memorable moment to them, but instead their excitement to be marrying each other in a room full of people they love. REAL WEDDINGS 21

The best friends to lovers trope is the crème de la crème of romance novels, and for Ben and Daisy, this is their reality. They started off as best friends in school in 2010, but it wasn’t until 2015 that they sparked a relationship. As if their story couldn’t get more perfect, Ben also pulled it out of the bag with his proposal in 2023. He popped the question on Verde Beach in Dubai, in front of the Burj Al Arab, and asked Daisy to spend the rest of her life with him. It was a natural “yes” for Daisy, and here we get to see their stunning wedding unfold. Llanerch Vineyard would set the scene for the climax of their storybook romance and what a beautiful venue to say, “I do” in. Their reason for picking this venue was its locality to their home, the breathtaking setting, the outdoor celebration spaces and photo opportunities, and the spacious marquee in the evening. For such a classy venue, you need an equally as elegant theme to tie it all in – that’s why Ben and Daisy opted for a traditional theme, with a colour scheme of black and ivory. This theme was carried throughout their flowers, décor, stationery, and centrepieces – talk about a well-designed wedding! The couple had a faux newspaper made to greet their guests at the ceremony – an extra special touch for the traditional theme. Their welcome sign featured a watermark of their engagement photos, and the ceremony room was adorned with fairy lights to brighten Daisy’s way to newlywed bliss. Keeping on the traditional theme, they had a very classic display of wedding breakfast food. Their canapés consisted of burger sliders, fish and leek tartlets, and Glamorgan sausage bonbons. This was followed by an epic three-course meal of smoked haddock and cheddar fishcakes, Parma ham-wrapped chicken (with various yummy sides), and finished with a salted caramel cheesecake with raspberry compote – delicious! Then, of course, they had wine from the vineyard to wash all of that lovely food down. The bridal party were nothing short of fabulous in their wedding day apparel; Daisy wowed guests in her Martina Liana ivory dress, while Ben rocked a black tuxedo. The bridesmaids wore Vesper Fliss one-shoulder satin maxi dresses in black, making the perfect contrast to the bride, and the groomsmen wore matching tuxedos with the groom. Their first night as newlyweds was seen in with live music, a DJ and a saxophone player. 30

This is an invitation to couples to embrace the beauty of their surroundings. Find magic in simplicity, and let nature become part of your love story Images courtesy of Edit Photography KIND OF LOVE This styled shoot at Canada Lodge and Lake was born from the desire to create something timeless yet natural – a love story that feels free-spirited, grounded, and deeply romantic. Inspired by the effortless harmony between meadow flowers and the venue’s lake, the vision was to capture both the wildness and serenity that love embodies. The meadow flowers featured offered a display of untamed and delicate beauty, representing freedom and spontaneity. In contrast, the stillness of the lake brought calm, reflection, and intimacy. Together, these elements formed the heart of the story – a reminder that true love is both grounding and infinite. At the heart of the shoot was wedding planner Chloê Ridgway-Pring, from The Aisle Planner, who carefully curated the concept and guided the creative team from start to finish. Chloê’s vision was to bring together the raw beauty of the setting with modern, editorial styling – ensuring each detail worked in harmony with the landscape. From pulling together the right team of vendors to coordinating the flow of the day, her expertise ensured the shoot told a seamless, cohesive story. A Meadow SHOOT 35

MOMENT Capture the Unpack the current photography trends and discover the importance of detail shots PHOTOGRAPHY 41
It would be very easy to sit here and say, ’a picture is a picture, why do I need to care about the different styles?’, but in this approach, we lose the magic of photography. If you and I took a picture of the same thing – yes, the subject would remain the same, but the style would differ completely! Mine might be more slapdash and yours may be artistic. The same applies to wedding photography – what one artist views as improper, the other will see as an opportunity and vice versa. There are countless different types of photography, but for the sake of this feature, I have broken them down into the current most popular types: traditional, dark and moody, documentary/photojournalistic, light and airy, vintage, and fine art. TRADITIONAL This style typically follows a formal route, where the images are all posed and the editing is kept pretty standardised. They’re the sort of pictures you’d recognise from your mum’s wedding album. These things stay classic for a reason, and you can’t argue with a traditional wedding photo. They stand the test of time, and you still get to see all of those lovely faces from your special day. These sorts of photos go hand-in-hand with black and white ones in a similar traditional format. Clean, classic and timeless. DARK AND MOODY/FLASH The dark and moody/flash photography style is something we are seeing more of in the wedding world; it celebrates the dark and allows that shine as a definitive feature. Flash photography is a spin-off of the dark and moody vibe and utilises the flash from a camera to light the image. We can thank the comeback kid, digital cameras, for this being in fashion again. People are loving the vintage feel this gives an image, especially if it’s paired with the classic date and time in the bottom corner. DOCUMENTARY/PHOTOJOURNALISTIC The flickering film and the blurred images – what would have been a photographer’s nightmare is now the requested style. The beauty of this is that it’s almost always candid; so, for those of you who can’t bear the thought of posing, this might be the style for you. The idea is that it captures real life and creates a story through images. This style doesn’t require much thought for the couple because there are no set shots – the photographer will be everywhere and anywhere, capturing what they can as it happens. 42
FINE ART An abrupt shift from documentary, we have fine art. As you can imagine from the name, this style leans more on visually stunning posed images; ones that would be great for fashion magazines/editorialinspired pieces. These images are very posed, have a lot of thought behind them, and can sometimes be quite abstract. These are the sort of things you’d see in the spread of a magazine or on billboards, to promote the latest designer. LIGHT AND AIRY When you think of light and airy, I want you to think about pastels, very light, whimsical, lots of flowers, joyful, etc. This formal style of photography can also lend itself quite nicely to fine art or traditional. It follows the classics of a traditional wedding but adds in the design wowfactor you get with fine art. It’s soft and romantic but oh-so timeless! VINTAGE The perfect blend of documentary and traditional – this style harnesses the current trend of the antiquated look, without losing the structure of traditional wedding photography. Documentary style lacks the structure given by traditional photographers but has a warm charm; this is where vintage photography finds the middle ground. THE IMPORTANCE OF DETAIL SHOTS Whilst the style of photography is very important, the power of a detail shot mustn’t be forgotten. Photographers vary on their inclusion of detail shots in the wedding album, but this is certainly something to check for. Detail shots are the underdogs but are imperative for reliving the day. Detail shots include things such as wedding stationery, shoes, jewellery, accessories, flowers, table settings, confetti, gifts, ceremony and reception décor, food, and lots of other options. Understandably, it’s the portraits that will more than likely end up framed and in your home, but it’s the details that bring it back to life. Discuss with your photographer ahead of time the types of shots you’d like them to get. They’ll be no stranger to a shot list, and I’m sure they would welcome guidance from the happy couple on what they expect in the album. Just ensure you are giving your chosen photographer plenty of time and opportunities to capture them all. PHOTOGRAPHY 43
