Q&A Look and feel your big-day best with help from the professionals PARTY TIME I’ll be slipping out of my wedding gown into a party dress for the evening reception. Is there a way I can switch up my make-up to go with the second look without taking too much time away from guests and my new husband? Jane Dare from Eyedo Makeup (www.eyedomakeup.co.uk) says: The transition to an evening look starts with great daytime make-up. In contrast to bridal make-up, which is flawless, radiant, and distinctive the evening party look is bold, fun and expressive. Primed skin, the perfect base set with setting powder and spray will have served you well throughout the day. But if you have particularly oily skin, start your evening look by dabbing the T-zone using blotting sheets to absorb any excess oil. Change up the eye look by adding a darker shade of shadow to the outer corner and into the crease blending well to create a smoky look (staying within the palette you chose for the day). Spritz your eyeshadow brush with setting spray and pick up a complementary sparkly shade placing this in the centre of the eye creating a pop. Golds, silvers, or similar shades such as peaches or pinks will bring out that party vibe. Add another layer of mascara, or if you’re not wearing any for the day, apply a false lash. Bring more depth to the eye with a darker eyeliner or apply a liquid liner and add a flick. Add a darker blusher to the apple of the cheeks, contour with slightly darker bronzer, following the contour lines generated from the day look, and apply highlighter to the top of the cheek bones, down the bridge of the nose, chin and cupids bow, and corner of eye. Finally add a bolder lippy, outlining first with a complementary liner, blot several times and reapply to add longevity for the evening. Add gloss to the centre of the lip and a touch of highlighter to stand out. Finally, using a large powder brush dust the whole face lightly from forehead to chin with translucent setting powder and spritz with good quality setting spray. You’re now ready to party the night away. Asdrubal Luna on Unsplash BEAT THE FRIZZ We’re getting married during the summer, but my hair doesn’t generally deal well with the humidity. What can I do and how should I wear it on the big day to avoid frizz? Holly Kew from Holly Mae Hair (www.hollymaehair.co.uk) says: When it comes to wedding hair, ensuring it stays frizz-free and holds its style throughout the day can be a challenge, especially with humidity and long hours. However, there are several key strategies to achieve flawless hair that lasts. First, using the right products is essential. During your hair trial, work closely with your stylist to experiment with different products to see which ones work best for your hair texture and desired look. This will ensure that on the big day, your hair is prepped and ready for any condition. Using conditioning treatments in the lead-up can definitely help your hair look its best. Nourishing and moisturising your mane will enhance shine and health, making it more vibrant for your big day. Treatments like deep conditioning masks, hair oils, and serums can restore moisture, repair damage, and smooth out any frizz, giving your hair a healthy, glossy finish. A well-structured style is another crucial factor. Up dos and secured styles tend to hold better and resist frizz more effectively than loose, flowing looks. However, if you’re dreaming of having your hair down, consider adding clip-in extensions. These can provide additional volume and texture, giving a fuller, more glamorous look while helping to maintain the overall shape and hold of your hair. Lastly, ensure you finish with a strong-hold hairspray or finishing spray to lock everything in place. With the right combination of products, styling techniques, and professional assistance, your wedding hair can remain fresh and beautiful from the ceremony to the last dance. Beauty LITTLE GIRLS I’ve got a couple of little flowergirls in my wedding party and would love for them to have their hair done too to make them feel special and involved. What styles can you suggest for the young ones that they’ll feel comfortable with? Debbie Lee from Debbie Louise Hair (www.instagram.com/ debbielouisehair_) says: It’s always nice to include young flowergirls in the prep, they love to feel part of the morning. When choosing a style, you need to decide how long it might last and how long they’ll sit for having it done. If their hair is very straight asking for curls will take a long time to do only for them to fall out quickly, whereas plaits or a nice, neat bun would look so nice and last the whole day. If they have natural curls, these can be enhanced with a wand and maybe the sides pulled back into a half-up half-down style. Adding flowers or a bow always looks beautiful too. 69 BEAUTY Q&A
