We chatted to some of the region’s bridal boutique owners to find out what makes shopping local and independent so special SEEKINGthe one Whether you have a firm picture in mind or you’re open to ideas, searching for the dream dress is a part of the wedding planning experience to remember for all the right reasons. After all, you’re about to purchase a dress like none you’ve worn before or are likely to wear since, so why shouldn’t your shopping experience befit the importance of this all-important attire? This isn’t something you’d wander into a high street shop for, pick up off the rail and head to the checkout with on a whim, so look for a store that’s up to the task and fit for the occasion. We chatted to some local lovelies who kindly shared some words of wisdom, and here we answer some tough questions you might be facing. I’m looking for an elegant dress that’s easy to dance the night away in. What would you suggest? An A-line silhouette is perfect for dancing as you’re free from the restriction of a fishtail or mermaid and avoid taking up the entire dancefloor, knocking your guests over with a full ballgown in the process! We love Empressa from Justin Alexander’s Signature 2026 collection. It certainly has the elegance you’re looking for with its matte satin fabric and modern asymmetrical cuff neckline. Best of all it suits any body shape including those with killer curves. Plus, the chapel-length train isn’t so long that it’ll hinder you while busting your moves! I’m considering taking the bespoke route in order to have a dress that’s truly me. Can you explain the process? Chippenham-based bridal designer Brooke Curling from By Brooke (www. bybrooke.co.uk),who can list work with British designer Sassi Holford among her previous experience says, “Starting with a consultation we would discuss your ideas, fabric options and take your measurements. We look at your whole wedding and how you feel your dress will perfectly fit your style, personality and wedding party – you want to look back at photos and know you made the right decision for you. “Next, I’d pattern cut your style and create a toile, which is a mock-up of the dress according to your measurements. This stage is crucial to get the perfect fit but is quite fun to watch the magic of a 2D sketch become a beautiful dress! “As a bride you can see how it’s all created and formed perfectly to your body, making those changes throughout the appointment, which can be small but impactful to complement your body. From these, the pattern would be altered ready for the next steps. “The final stages are creating the dress in its true fabrics, tweaking as it’s being fitted and putting together those finishing touches. It’s a beautiful moment seeing the hard work and creativity of creating a bespoke piece come together and be worn with happiness and pride by a bride knowing it’s their own design.” What style of dress will give me a timeless look for my manor house wedding? Why not evoke the style of the architectural era with a modern edge? Many manor house venues exude that on-trend Regency or Victorian grandeur, so we recommend lace for that period, romantic vibe. Cecilia from Mark Ingram’s spring 2026 collection is a dream for this feel with an ultra-low plunging V sweetheart neckline and oh-so modern lace patterned embroidered tulle. Mark Ingram is known for fashionforward yet timeless looks so it may well match your vision to a tee. https://justinalexander.com By Brooke © www.stuartdudleston.com www.markingramatelier.com By Brooke By Brooke FLOWERS 47 BRIDAL BOUTIQUES
