It’s also hardly the most exciting part of planning a wedding – but when you consider how much is being spent, it can be one of the most important items on the to-do list. We spoke to Mark Brown from Wedinsure to find out what wedding insurance actually covers, and what people often misunderstand. Mark explains, “At its core, wedding insurance is designed to protect you financially if something unexpected happens that’s outside your control. This might include a key supplier going out of business, a venue becoming unavailable, or serious illness or injury affecting the couple or close family, leading to the wedding being cancelled or rearranged. Policies can also extend to loss or damage to important items such as rings, outfits or gifts, as well as personal and public liability, which many venues now require. “Cover is typically linked to the overall cost of the wedding, rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. Wedinsure, for example, offers 10 levels of cover from £6,000 up to £100,000, with prices starting from a £38.99 one-off payment. What wedding insurance doesn’t cover is a simple change of heart – it’s there for unforeseen problems. “Wedding insurance is worth considering early in the planning process, ideally once you start paying deposits. From that point on, you’ve made a financial commitment and that’s exactly what insurance is intended to protect. With Wedinsure, cover can be taken out up to 30 months before the big day, allowing couples to put protection in place early. Ben was performing alongside Boyz on Block, a last-minute addition after Boyzlife were forced to cancel. As Vanessa reflects, “If Brian and Keith hadn’t stepped back, Ben wouldn’t have been on that stage – and we might never have met. After the show, we found ourselves chatting, nothing planned or forced, just two people connecting in a room full of energy and celebration. That conversation sparked something real and everything changed from there.” Since that night, the couple have packed a lifetime into a single year – from award shows and festivals to exploring Spain and Dubai together. Then, in February 2025, during an unforgettable trip to New York, Ben asked Vanessa if she would be his wife. When looking for a wedding venue, the couple instantly fell in love with Rose Castle, a picturesque venue steeped in history and surrounded by rolling Cumbrian hills that radiate timeless romance. They embraced an opulence-inspired theme, selecting lavish floral arrangements with a modern twist by Vandella Flowers. With music playing such an important role in their lives, the couple named their tables after musicians who were attending the celebration. Guests also left with beautifully curated gift bags containing luxurious AMEN fragrances, undereye patches, a Skinade collagen drink, summer fans, and branded tissues. Vanessa chose two dresses for the big day. Her first was a Berta gown from Knutsford Wedding Gallery, accessorised with her mother’s pearl necklace and Tiffany earrings. Her second look was a Milla Nova design, also from Knutsford Wedding Gallery. Ben opted for a sharp, stylish suit from Masuit, while the bridesmaids completed the vision in yellow gowns from Odd Muse. From the moment guests arrived at the castle gates, they were immersed in the magic of the day. Vanessa shares, “As our guests entered the grand courtyard of Rose Castle, the stirring sound of Scottish bagpipes, played by Callum Scottish Piper, set an unforgettable tone of elegance and heritage. It was a breathtaking opening scene – the kind of welcome that instantly transported everyone into the romance of the day.” Following the ceremony, guests gathered in the castle gardens for cocktail hour, where the smooth, soulful sounds of Shades of Sax drifted through the summer air. The atmosphere was vibrant yet relaxed – Champagne flowing, laughter echoing, and lawn games such as mini golf, giant Jenga, and ring toss adding a playful touch to the refined surroundings. As the sun began to set, Jonathan Bremner serenaded guests into the evening with his rich vocals, creating an intimate, romantic mood that seamlessly transitioned into a night of celebration. Once dinner concluded, the energy soared as DJ Rick Live took over the decks, delivering a fusion of live mixing, vocals, and party anthems that kept everyone on their feet. Then came a truly unforgettable sequence – a star-studded lineup of performances from some of the UK’s most iconic artists. The groom opened with Turn Around (Phats & Small), followed by performances from Keith Duffy and Shane Lynch (Boyzone), Abz Love (Five), Bradley McIntosh (S Club 7), and Dane Bowers (Another Level), transforming the wedding into a private concert filled with pop nostalgia and electric joy. To close the night, the sky lit up with a dazzling drone show by FlightShows – a breathtaking spectacle choreographed to music, celebrating love, unity, and the magic of the day. Behind the scenes, Explosive Productions Ltd ensured the staging, lighting, and sound were nothing short of world-class, turning the castle grounds into a festival of love and light. Vanessa and Ben’s day overflowed with emotion, laughter, and music, with friends and family travelling from seven different countries to share in their joy. Vanessa adds, “Seeing loved ones from all over the world come together under one roof, in a castle, no less, made it feel even more magical and meaningful. One of the most touching moments came right after the ceremony, when Marie from White Heart Doves UK released a pair of beautiful white doves into the sky, symbolising eternal love, peace, and new beginnings. As they soared above the castle towers, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. From the moment Ben saw me walking down the aisle to dancing under the summer sky surrounded by our guests, every second felt like a dream. Jade and Harry met through mutual friends. Harry tells us, “The first thing that attracted me to Jade was her gorgeous looks and caring personality. I knew straight away she was a woman I could be with for the rest of my life.” He proposed at Williamson Park in Lancaster, the place where they shared their very first kiss in 2023. Wanting to treasure every second, Harry captured the moments leading up to the proposal by filming a short vlog – something the couple love to do during their days out together. The grounds of Singleton Lodge Country House Hotel instantly drew the couple in, and they knew their wedding photos would look stunning in the gardens. They also loved that the venue offered a variety of function rooms, allowing guests of all personalities to gather, mingle, and celebrate their special day together. The couple worked with A Rustic Touch, who provided a wooden end-of-aisle piece, a charming post box, crisp wall, a large heart stand personalised with their names, and games to keep the children entertained. Barlow Bespoke Flowers helped bring their vision to life with elegant blush pink and white floral arrangements. To warm their friends and family on the chilly day, the couple chose a hog roast, which was perfect for the winter weather. They also enjoyed a beautiful REAL WEDDINGS 27
three-tier vanilla sponge cake lovingly created by Jade’s grandmother, decorated with white fondant icing and delicate pink flowers. Jade looked stunning in an off-the-shoulder ivory gown from Anne Whittaker Bridal, accessorised with a long veil, earrings, a necklace, and ivory shoes. Harry complemented her perfectly in a navy suit paired with a pink tie from Next. To keep guests entertained into the evening, the couple asked a friend to DJ. Harry shares, “We gave him a list of songs and he created a playlist that kept everyone dancing all night. We received overwhelming compliments on the dancefloor, with each song flowing perfectly into the next.” On the day, the couple felt a mix of excitement and emotion as they prepared to tie the knot. Harry recalls, “I spent the morning greeting guests as they arrived, which felt surreal. The day had come around in a flash, and I couldn’t believe everyone on our guest list was finally there. I stayed composed until the very moment I saw my beautiful wife walking down the aisle. In that moment, all I can describe is tunnel vision – everything else disappeared, and it was just her. You can imagine what it will feel like, but nothing prepares you for that starstruck feeling.” One of the most emotional moments for everyone was the speeches. There were quite a few, and each one was unforgettable – tear-jerking, hilarious, and full of heartfelt stories, along with a little goodnatured embarrassment for the bride and groom. Every question was answered promptly, helping to turn their wedding day into something truly special. Reflecting on the planning process, Harry shares, “Planning a wedding can be stressful, but don’t worry too much about the smaller details, such as timings with photographers or the order of speeches.
