Your North West Wedding - February/March 2024 (Issue 84)

PICTURE PERFECT Christina Davies from Fish 2 Photography (www.fish2.co.uk) shares her tips on finding your dream photographer: When looking for a photographer, the best place to start is online. Look at social media pages, websites, blogs and online magazines. Have a look at what catches your eye, is it documentary, fine art, traditional, or high fashion? Think about what is really drawing you and focus on those types of photographers. Visit wedding fairs in your local area or arrange to meet up and chat with photographers whose Instagrams you really like. Ask to see photos of real couples from a wedding day when you meet. Look through images all the way from getting ready to the ceremony, couple portraits, and the evening reception. A lot of photographers will have albums, either online or printed, that you can look through as you chat. The next thing to think about is: who do you feel comfortable with? When you met the photographer, did you feel comfortable and did you feel you could chat for a while? It’s really important that you feel at ease with whoever you choose to photograph your wedding day and that they have the experience to handle everything a wedding day can throw at them. I’ve been a wedding photographer for 15 years and I’m sure I’ve still not seen everything that could happen at a wedding. With that in mind, here are my top tips to help you when choosing a photographer: •Look online at styles you like and ask friends for recommendations and who they had photograph their day. •Meet up and chat with a photographer before you book and make sure you feel comfortable with them. •Ensure you are happy with their style, packages and experience before you book. •Don’t book at the meeting. Go away and chat to make sure you are both comfortable, something I always encourage couples to do. Once you’ve decided, email them and let them know your decision. •If you aren’t sure, it’s fine to ask further questions by phone or email or meet with other photographers. •Book the photographer you love. It’s important to remember that the photos will be your lasting memory from the day, so you want to capture lots of great memories. www.fish2.co.uk www.fish2.co.uk www.fish2.co.uk www.fish2.co.uk PLANNING SOS 49
