DUNS CASTLE 01361 883 211 | www.dunscastle.co.uk Located in 1,800-acres, Duns Castle is an exclusive-use wedding venue located in Durham that dates back to 1320. The celebrated architect, James Gillespie Graham, remodelled the castle’s exterior in 1820; he added more of a gothic-revival style by adding castellated turrets, a series of gargoyles and a crown arch. The property sits within a nature reserve with a beautiful lake, different wildlife species, extensive lawns, forest trails and areas for bespoke activities. The grand entrance makes the perfect backdrop to wedding photography with two eagles standing guard on either side of the door and a stone staircase leading guests to the main areas. Ceremonies for up to 60 people usually happen in the main Drawing Room, a large area with impressive-bowed windows, a fireplace and a detailed cornice. A stunning mirror, which almost reaches the ceiling, is the main focal point of the space with carved-wooden figures adorning each side. Alternatively, the “I dos” and receptions can take place on the lawn in front of the castle, weather permitting, and a marquee is also an option for larger weddings. For more intimate weddings, nuptials can occur in the Grand Hall, which is an impressive space with a vaulted ceiling and bar area. We love... The castle sleeps up to 55 loved ones among 12 bedrooms and holiday cottages, which means friends and family can retreat to comfort after dancing the night away! HEALEY BARN 01434 400 044 | www.crippsandco.com Located in the tranquil countryside near Corbridge in Tyne Valley, Healey Barn is a luxurious wedding venue full of character and charm. The original building was converted by Cripps & Co back in 2015 and still includes many historical touches. The Long Barn features an impressive-raised cruck roof, three giant candelabra, wall-mounted candle holders, a canopy of fairylights woven into the oak ceiling and an open fireplace, which creates an enchanting and romantic atmosphere. This location is perfect for ceremonies with 144 guests and gets transformed in the evenings for beautiful receptions with a dancefloor. Leading through from the barn, the dining room provides the perfect space for wedding breakfasts and loved ones can take in the spectacular views while eating some fabulous food. At the end of the dining room is a copper-clad bar, which has a glass folding door opening onto a small terrace and then the garden. Sheltered from the wind, the sun-filled courtyard provides a large additional space for post-ceremony drinks and is an excellent location for wedding photography. There are two giant oak planters with seats around them, six umbrella-topped trees, various benches, cosy sun traps and planted troughs and borders. Guests love the giant barbecue, rotisseries and pizza oven for flame-cooked feasts. The space is transformed at night with lanterns, firepits and fairy-lit trees. Located one mile away from the venue, Healey Hall and its adjoining cottages can accommodate 34 guests in 17 beautifully designed rooms. We love... hen couples book the venue, the team offer them regular Feast Nights to sample a range of popular dishes to decide on their chosen menu. 20
