And it seems it’s not just a favourite with me, as it’s becoming an increasingly popular time of year to get married. So, what’s so great about these months when it comes to tying the knot? For a start, the temperature is a lot more favourable. Even though it’s still warm during September, the heat has a friendlier feel about it, rather than the oppressive temperatures of summer. Then, moving into October and November, we have the cosy atmosphere created by roaring fires and candlelight, along with the stunning natural backdrops as the colours start to change to rich shades of amber and gold. I adore the new, imaginative palettes couples are coming up with for their autumn nuptials. For 2026, the trend is moving away from predictable burnt orange and burgundy towards richer, more nuanced palettes featuring earthy neutrals, jewel tones and unexpected pops of colour. Browns have become a key feature rather than just an accent, while plum, olive and espresso is emerging as a standout combination. I hope you’ll find plenty of wedspiration in this issue, whatever time of year you’ve chosen for your wedding. As ever, enjoy and keeeep planning! Kelly Andrews, editor Shades of autumn Kelly x On the cover This issue’s cover is sponsored by West Midlands Safari Park (wmsp. co.uk). The venue’s breathtaking grounds offer you a wedding day surrounded by nature, beauty and a sense of exotic wonder. It’s a setting as extraordinary as the love you share. The Instagram effect ON WEDDING VENUES How social media is reshaping the industry In an era where a single photograph can reach millions of viewers within hours, wedding venues are experiencing a seismic shift in how they attract couples and showcase their spaces. Instagram has evolved from a simple photo-sharing app into the most powerful marketing tool the wedding industry has ever seen and it’s fundamentally changing what couples look for in a venue. We spoke with Nick from Country House Weddings (countryhouseweddings. co.uk) to explore how social media, particularly Instagram and TikTok is reshaping venue selection, design, and the entire wedding experience. THE RISE OF INSTAGRAM-WORTHY VENUES “Ten years ago, couples primarily chose venues based on capacity, location, and price,” explains Nick “Today, the first question whether said or not is really: ‘How Instagram-worthy is it?’. The visual appeal of a space has become just as important, and sometimes more important than traditional practical considerations.” This shift reflects a broader change in how couples approach their weddings. The ceremony and reception are no longer private family affairs but shareable content that will be viewed, liked, and commented on by hundreds to thousands of people. As a result, venues with distinctive architectural features, dramatic backdrops, and photogenic details have seen demand skyrocket. “Country houses, venues with statement staircases, and spaces with abundant natural light are particularly popular,” Nick notes. “These environments photograph beautifully and provide those ‘wow’ moments that translate perfectly to social media, without overwhelming the couple.” HOW VENUES ARE ADAPTING TO INSTAGRAM CULTURE Smart venue owners are responding to this Instagram-driven demand by strategically enhancing their spaces with social media in mind. According to Nick, this goes far beyond simply having pretty spaces. “To accommodate, many spaces have invested in designated ‘photo opportunities’ throughout the properties,” he explains. “This might be a swing hanging from an ancient oak tree or a flower wall that’s refreshed seasonally. These aren’t just decorative, rather they’re carefully designed Instagram moments that if well done, look completely natural and spontaneous.” THE POWER OF USER-GENERATED CONTENT Perhaps the most significant impact of Images sourced from unsplash.com 18

Instagram on wedding venues is the rise of user-generated content as a marketing powerhouse. Traditional advertising has been largely replaced by the authentic images newlyweds share from their big- day celebrations. “When a couple posts photos from their wedding and tags our venue, they’re essentially providing a testimonial to their entire network,” says Nick. “That organic reach is invaluable. We’ve had couples book with us purely because they saw a friend’s wedding photos on Instagram and fell in love with the space.” Many venues now actively encourage this user-generated content by creating unique hashtags, offering incentives for tagging the venue, and even featuring couples’ photos on their official accounts. This creates a symbiotic relationship: couples get the pleasure of being featured on a popular wedding venue account, while venues benefit from fresh, authentic content that resonates with prospective couples. THE PRESSURE TO PERFORM: WHEN INSTAGRAM EXPECTATIONS MEET REALITY While Instagram has created tremendous opportunities for venues, it has also introduced new challenges and pressures. Nick is candid about the potential downsides. “We’ve noticed that some couples spend so much time planning for the perfect Instagram shots that they forget to actually enjoy their wedding,” he observes. “There’s pressure to recreate specific aesthetics they’ve seen online, sometimes at the expense of what they genuinely want or what works best for their celebration.” “Our role has evolved to include managing these expectations,” Nick explains. “We show couples how to achieve beautiful photos while maintaining authenticity and ensuring they don’t sacrifice the experience for the content.” SEASONAL AESTHETICS AND TRENDING STYLES Instagram has dramatically accelerated the pace of wedding trend cycles. Styles that once remained popular for years now shift seasonally, driven by what’s currently performing well on social media. “We’ve seen rustic barn weddings give way to minimalist industrial spaces, which then evolved into romantic garden parties, and now we’re in an era of maximalist, moody aesthetics,” notes Nick. “Each shift is directly traceable to what’s trending on Instagram and other visual platforms.” The most successful venues, according to Nick, are those with classic, versatile spaces that can be dressed to match current trends rather than those locked into a specific style. THE DEMOCRATISATION OF VENUE DISCOVERY On the positive side, Instagram has democratised venue discovery in ways that benefit both couples and venues. Previously, couples typically found venues through traditional advertising, wedding fairs, or word-of-mouth recommendations, which heavily favoured established venues with large marketing budgets. “Instagram has levelled the playing field,” says Nick. “A smaller, boutique venue with beautiful spaces and strong visual content can now compete with major established venues.” SOCIAL MEDIA 19

VIRTUAL VENUE TOURS AND DIGITALFIRST EXPERIENCES Instagram has also transformed how couples initially explore venues. The traditional approach of booking in-person tours of multiple locations has been supplemented and sometimes replaced by digital discovery. “Couples now typically do extensive Instagram research before even contacting us,” Nick explains. “They’ve already ‘experienced’ the venue through our feed, stories, highlights, and reels. By the time they reach out, they have a clear vision of whether our space fits their aesthetic.” It also requires savvy venues to keep their social media game strong and vibrant. THE ECONOMICS OF INSTAGRAMDRIVEN DEMAND The Instagram effect has had tangible economic impacts on wedding venues. Properties that successfully leverage social media have seen significant increases in booking inquiries. This creates a new challenge: venues must continuously invest in creating fresh, engaging content to maintain visibility in Instagram’s algorithm-driven environment, requiring ongoing resources for photography, content creation, and social media management. INFLUENCER WEDDINGS AND ASPIRATIONAL CONTENT The rise of influencer culture has created a new category of high-profile weddings that serve as both personal celebrations and branded content opportunities. For venues, hosting an influencer wedding can provide unprecedented exposure. “When we host a wedding for a couple with a significant social media following, we know that kind of exposure would cost a fortune in traditional advertising. Some venues even offer discounted rates to influencers specifically for this marketing.” But this dynamic also raises questions about authenticity and the commercialisation of weddings. The line between personal celebration and content creation becomes blurred when sponsors, product placements, and promotional partnerships enter the picture. LOOKING AHEAD: THE FUTURE OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND VENUES As social media continues to evolve, Nick anticipates further changes in how venues market themselves and what couples prioritise. “We’re already seeing a shift toward video content with the rise of TikTok and Instagram reels,” he notes. “Venues need to think beyond static images and consider how their spaces translate to short-form video. We’re also noticing a counter-movement of couples who want ‘unplugged’ weddings where guests aren’t constantly on their phones. The pendulum may swing back toward more private, intimate celebrations.” Nick also predicts that virtual and augmented reality tools will become more sophisticated, potentially allowing couples to virtually ‘walk through’ venue spaces and visualise their weddings before booking. This could further reduce the need for in-person venue visits while raising expectations for accessible digital presentation. FINDING BALANCE IN THE DIGITAL AGE “Instagram has fundamentally transformed the wedding venue industry, mostly for the better,” concludes Nick. “The most successful weddings are those where couples use Instagram for inspiration and venue discovery but ultimately make choices based on what feels right for them. A beautiful Instagram feed is wonderful, but it shouldn’t come at the expense of genuine connection, personal meaning, or the joy of being present in your own celebration.” 20

Dancing through the daffodils Katrina and Will said “I do” at Belvoir Castle before celebrating their nuptials at The Duck in Woolsthorpe Images courtesy of Charlotte Jopling Photography Katrina and Will (known as Fran by those who love him) were set up on a date by their best friends who knew they were perfect for each other. “We clicked immediately, and it felt like we’d known each other for years,” Katrina shares. She rang her bestie, Emma, straight afterwards to tell her how amazingly it went. Meanwhile, Fran was on the phone to Josh telling him he was going to marry Katrina! “Josh and Emma stood by our sides as best man and maid-of-honour at our wedding,” Katrina tells us. “The two people who saw our future before we did.” On the cliffs of Pentire Point in Cornwall, Fran told Katrina that he loved her for the first time, and in the same spot two years later, he completely surprised her by dropping to one knee. “It was the easiest yes of my life,” Katrina says. Belvoir Castle has been a second home to Katrina for the past six years, working as a PA to the Duchess of Rutland. So, choosing it as their wedding venue felt natural. “Not only is it breathtaking, but we know every corner of it, which made the day feel even more personal,” Katrina explains. Following the ceremony, they moved on to their favourite local pub, The Duck, which has a beautiful private event space. “The food is always exceptional, and the team there couldn’t have been more supportive,” Katrina continues. Katrina’s favourite colours, yellow and blue, formed the wedding’s palette and everything fell into place from there. The couple chose to tie the knot in March, when the daffodils would be in bloom, so they let them take centre stage in their venue styling. The bride’s friend, Charlotte from Wilde Avenue Floral Studio, went above and beyond to bring the vision to life. The daffodils were grown by Fran’s parents, and the arrangements were understated, allowing them to reuse as much as possible. The flower meadows from the church were brought to the reception, and guests were invited to take the pot plant centrepieces home at the end of the night. For a seasonal touch, Lindt bunnies doubled as favours and place names. The couple and their guests enjoyed a drinks reception featuring Graham Beck fizz in the Rose Garden at Belvoir Castle, before heading to The Duck for canapés and a threecourse wedding breakfast. A cheese tower was served instead of a wedding cake, and Katrina’s friend, JF from The Catering 4 You, surprised the newlyweds with two huge chocolate tortes. Both the cheese and the tortes were well and truly demolished! Having decided to get married just four months after getting engaged, Katrina needed to buy a dress off-the-peg. She fell in love with a gown by Moonlight Bridal, and happily, it only needed a few alterations. “I knew it was the one as I didn’t want to take it off; I just felt beautiful,” Katrina remembers. The groom wore his own morning suit and he and his groomsmen accessorised with yellow and blue ties with little pigs on them, Fran’s favourite animal. The bridesmaids, meanwhile, looked beautiful in their chiffon sky-blue dresses, each in a style that suited them. “Without question, the highlight of the day was walking down the aisle to my husband-to-be and the ceremony itself,” Katrina shares. “We’ve never felt elation and happiness quite like it; every nerve melted away. The joy in the room was infectious, and the ceremony was filled with laughter and magic. The Belvoir Castle chaplain who married us was so much fun and made the whole ceremony special and joyous.” The bride tells us that the best decision they made on the planning journey was refusing to plan the day down to the second. “Over-scheduling only invites stress when the smallest detail shifts, and it always does. Instead, I kept a loose sense of the order of events, which allowed me to be fully present.” REAL WEDDINGS 23

Country house charm Kirsty and Lewis styled their romantic wedding day in a soft, elegant palette of rose pink and sage green Images courtesy of McAra Photography 28

REAL WEDDINGS 29

One day, Kirsty found someone else sitting in her usual chair at the break room table at work. It was Lewis. The next break she beat him to it, so he came to sit in the chair next to her and they started chatting. They bonded over their love of weight training, and the rest is history. Lewis proposed on the Isle of Wight while the couple were on holiday with Kirsty’s two daughters and Lewis’ family. He’d booked an overnight stay at a different hotel just for the two of them, while the girls stayed with Lewis’ parents. Lewis bought Kirsty a dress to wear for their romantic evening meal together, and the two headed off to the lake to take some photos. When she turned back to him after admiring the lakeside views, she found him on one knee and he popped the question. Having visited various venue open days, Kirsty and Lewis discovered that Cockliffe Country House was the only one to give them that gut feeling you get when you know it’s the one. So, they booked it that day. A beautiful, scenic venue, they loved the idea that it would be exclusively theirs and was tucked away in a country park. “It felt private and intimate,” Kirsty explains. The couple turned to Touch of Charm for their venue styling, and the team ran with their light rose pink and light sage green palette. “They did an absolutely incredible job,” Kirsty remembers. Sadly, Kirsty and Lewis told us that they couldn’t really comment on the food as they were too busy being the bride and groom to eat much! “We were mostly functioning on prosecco and beer, but I do know the guests really enjoyed the food,” Kirsty laughs. They were served tempura prawn canapés with sweet chilli sauce, along with mini beef wrap Yorkshire puddings with horseradish and vegetable dumplings. They also received fantastic feedback about the pork belly starter, chicken parma main and passion fruit posset dessert! “The pizza in the evening was a big win too, and we did get to enjoy some of our amazing wedding cake,” Kirsty says. 30

The bride wore a champagne and almond off-theshoulder lace fit-and-flare gown by Allure Bridal. “I knew it was the one when none of the other dresses I tried could compare,” she explains. “Charlotte Elizabeth Bridal in Matlock is the queen of wedding dresses; she’s incredible!” Lewis wore Jenson, a checked blue suit by Marc Darcy. It was a three-piece with a double-breasted waistcoat, which he paired with a sage green tie. The groomsmen were dressed to match, with the exception of light rose pink ties. Two of the bridesmaids were dressed in light sage green multiway dresses, while the other two ladies wore light rose pink. There was plenty to keep guests entertained throughout the day with a giant Jenga in the garden, bubble wands and puzzle books for the children, and ice-breaker games on the tables. The couple also hired a photo booth for the evening, which was a huge hit. For Kirsty, the highlight of the day was the moment she locked eyes with Lewis when walking down the aisle towards him. “He just sobbed; it was such a heartfelt moment,” she remembers. Their first dance also stands out as they’d gone to dance lessons with a tutor who choreographed the routine for them. “We absolutely smashed it! It was so much fun, and we were both so proud we did it together,” she says. Before we part, the bride has some excellent tips for those of you planning your forthcoming nuptials: “Plan ahead, and I mean like, really ahead! Do whatever you guys want to do, it’s your day. You spend so much time and money planning your special day, so please make sure you do what makes you happy. There are always going to be some awkward people, and if they aren’t happy with how you’re having your day, that’s their problem. It’s your love story, don’t let anyone else try to shape that. Try not to stress – enjoy all the small stuff. Oh, and go to dance lessons! It’s the best thing we ever did.” REAL WEDDINGS 31
