Your London Wedding - March/April 2023 (Issue 88)

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON Q – I’m trying to plan our morning prep and have no idea how long I should give for hair and make-up. How long would you recommend, and do you have any other prep tips? To make sure you have enough time to get ready without feeling rushed, it’s best to allow at least one to two hours depending on the complexity and desired look. This will allow for any unexpected issues or touch-ups that may come up. Other tips include: •Communicate with your hair and make-up team to make sure everyone’s on the same page and that they have all the necessary tools and products •Make a realistic schedule and stick to it as best as possible •Try to stay calm and relaxed •Plan for things taking longer than expected •Do a test run beforehand to give you a good idea of how much time you’ll need on the big day •Make sure you have a comfortable and well-lit area for the application It’s always good to give yourself more time than you think you’ll need because after all, it’s always better to be ready early than to be rushed. Do you have any suggestions of great products and daily regimes to get that silky-smooth shine back? The team at our salon were becoming pretty fed up with shampoo making hair squeaky clean and leaving it wispy with flyaways. This isn’t a flattering look, and since transitioning to Hairstory’s New Wash, we much prefer to use creams to air-dry our cuts, as it helps define all the subtle layers and shapes that are a signature part of our work. By using New Wash in and out of the salon, you can have clean hair with no need for excess styling products. Unlike shampoo, New Wash is detergent free, meaning it doesn’t strip the hair in any way at all. It preserves colour and the hair’s natural condition and movement. Not only that, but it also works on all hair types and it’s super gentle on a sensitive scalp. Will it have the staying power and what are my options? Having your make-up applied by a professional will mean that it lasts for as long as possible. Your make-up artist will tailor your look to work with all weather conditions too so you can rest assured that you’ll look amazing throughout. You can also opt for airbrush make-up, which can last for up to 15 hours. This is lightly sprayed onto the face and sets on contact. A trial’s important to check it works for your skin. It’s a great option to have airbrush make-up if you don’t like to wear too much – it’s flawless and makes your look a seamless one. Skincare prep also plays a huge part. If the skin’s prepped well, everything else will sit beautifully and will last. My top tip for ultra-longevity, is always using a setting spray before the foundation as well as at the end of the application. I don’t go anywhere without my Charlotte Tilbury Setting Spray. Another option is to book your make-up artist to stay after the ceremony so they’re on hand to keep you looking fresh from day to night. I offer this luxury service and it’s one that’s being used more and more. If you can’t have red carpet treatment on your wedding day, when can you?
