My husband and I have just celebrated our eight-year wedding anniversary, and around the same time of year our wedding venue hosts an open day; originally, I just considered how lovely it would be to return to the venue on our 10-year anniversary. And, well, that’s just escalated – how these things do – to something more meaningful. I blame, Tyson and Paris Fury, after watching At Home With The Furys series two – don’t judge me – they celebrated being married again with their fourth vow renewal! It was just so refreshing, they are just so happily and blissfully in love still after 20 years, and they still wanted to say their vows all over again. It’s such a statement of love, commitment, friendship, and adoration – soppy I know! But for something I’ve never understood, I’m suddenly very keen on the idea. And, who doesn’t love having something to plan right? As always, this issue is packed full of inspiration for you to plan your own big days! Until next time… Danielle Harvey, managing editor Vow renewals Danielle x On the cover This issue’s front cover has been sponsored by Hythe Imperial Hotel (hytheimperial. co.uk). Since opening in 2011 under the ownership of Josh De Haan, the harbour-side restaurant has become renowned for its modern British cuisine, panoramic sea views and exceptional hospitality. A testament to its consistency, Rocksalt has retained two AA Rosettes every year since launch, achieving the accolade for 15 consecutive years. Over the past decade and a half, Rocksalt has played a prominent role in Folkestone’s regeneration, helping establish the town as a recognised food, arts and tourism destination on the Kent coast. The milestone follows continued growth for the wider hospitality group, which also operates the award-winning The Pickled Egg Pub Company, further highlighting its long-term investment in Kent’s hospitality scene. Kent couples win dream weddings Two Kent couples are celebrating after winning fully funded weddings at two of the county’s most sought-after venues as part of Glow Events’ “Win a Wedding” competition. The lucky winners, Nicola and James, and Katey and James, were surprised with the lifechanging news during a special announcement evening at The Orangery in Maidstone. Nicola and James will marry at the historic Bilsington Priory in May 2026. Their win comes after a challenging weddingplanning journey that included the loss of their original venue and difficult family health circumstances. Having first met in 2008 and since welcomed their son, Henry, the couple said the prize will allow them to fully enjoy their long-awaited wedding day and finally look ahead to a honeymoon. Meanwhile, Katey and James will celebrate their wedding at The Gardens in December 2027. The couple, who reconnected after the pandemic while working together, have built a happy blended family with their three children. Their winter celebration will be filled with personal touches, including a special role for Katey’s 92-year-old grandmother as flowergirl. “We are absolutely delighted for both couples,” said Glow Events Director Emmet Hannan. “Hearing their stories and seeing their reactions was incredibly moving.” Both winning couples will now work with the team to plan their dream celebrations, creating two unforgettable wedding days in stunning Kent settings. Visit bilsingtonprioryevents.co.uk LOVE STORIES AT CHIDDINGSTONE CASTLE Couples dreaming of a wedding that’s completely their own will love what Chiddingstone Castle has to offer. Rather than following a set formula, the historic country house specialises in bespoke celebrations, ensuring no two weddings are ever the same. From choosing between a variety of beautiful ceremony locations to hosting drinks receptions in different areas of the estate, couples have the flexibility to design a day that reflects their personalities and style. The experienced catering team can also create everything from traditional wedding breakfasts to Asianinspired feasts, elegant afternoon teas or even relaxed fish and chips. Looking for something unforgettable? The team has helped arrange fairground carousels, Spitfire flypasts, marching bands, arrivals by horseback and helicopter, and even dogs and pet owls as ring bearers. Couples can experience the venue for themselves at the Chiddingstone Castle Wedding Show on 20th September, where they’ll be able to tour the venue and meet the wedding team. The Castle has also released additional availability for spectacular firework displays in 2027 and 2028, offering even more ways to create a truly memorable celebration. Visit chiddingstonecastle.org.uk/weddings Solton Manor’s new manager Historic wedding venue Solton Manor has announced a major programme of investment alongside the appointment of Rebecca Wise as General Manager, marking a significant new chapter for the centuries-old estate. Located near Dover and first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086, Solton Manor continues to expand its exclusive-use wedding offering through a series of enhancements designed to provide couples with greater flexibility and choice. Among the latest developments is the restoration of The Old Stables, transformed into an elegant indoor ceremony space by designer Michelle Shakallis. During the renovation, a historic farm bell was discovered and reinstated above the estate’s Bell Tower Barn, where it now symbolically marks the beginning of wedding celebrations rather than the end of the working day. The venue’s ongoing improvements include the creation of Finet’s Glade, a dedicated woodland ceremony space accommodating up to 200 guests, expanded outdoor ceremony options, increased capacity within the Dutch Barn, and the refurbishment of both the Dutch Barn Bar and Dovecote Cottage, now a luxury two-bedroom retreat. Additional enhancements include a new accessible ground-floor bedroom within the Bell Tower Barn and the redecoration of key rooms throughout the Manor House. With its blend of historic character and continued investment, Solton Manor is reinforcing its position as one of Kent’s most distinctive countryside wedding destinations. Molly and Kristian were childhood friends who knew each other when they were younger, but later reconnected. Fast-forward to a romantic proposal in the south of France, on a beach at sunset. “It was an intimate and unforgettable moment,” recalls Molly. “The setting made the proposal feel incredibly special and meaningful.” The big date was set: 28th July 2025. Here, we find out more about their day… “I was immediately attracted to the venue because of its beautiful, well-maintained grounds, which created a sense of elegance and exclusivity from the moment you arrive,” shares Molly. “The expansive lawns, mature trees and landscaped surroundings provided a stunning natural backdrop for the ceremony, drinks reception and photographs. The day flowed naturally, making full use of the outdoor space.” The couple’s black-tie theme was reflected through elegant, minimal venue styling that focused on a crisp white palette with refined black accents. “White linens and clean table settings created a timeless foundation, while clouds of gypsophila added softness and a romantic feel without detracting from the formal aesthetic,” says Molly. “The florals were used intentionally throughout the venue to create continuity and a sense of understated luxury. Candlelight and subtle lighting enhanced the white tones and added warmth, elevating the space while maintaining a classic, polished atmosphere. “Every styling choice was carefully considered to reflect the elegance of a black-tie celebration.” REAL WEDDINGS 27
On the day, Molly wore a Milla Nova dress from Dress Dreams knowing it was the one straight away. “As soon as I put it on, it felt completely right and perfectly suited to me,” adds Molly. “I felt confident, comfortable, and truly myself. There was no hesitation or comparison with other dresses, it was an immediate and instinctive decision.” Kristian looked dapper in a cream-coloured black-tie suit which matched the those worn by the groomsmen, while the bridesmaids wore black Club L London dresses that complemented the theme. To entertain loved ones, the couple opted for a ‘who knows us best quiz’ where the winner got a trophy signed ‘know it all of the newly Webbs’! One of th highlights was taking a step away together and spending an hour simply chatting. “It gave us a quiet moment to pause, reflect, and really take everything in, which made the day feel even more meaningful,” shares Molly. 28

WONDER A winter Keith and Alison created the ultimate boho-chic winter wedding Images courtesy of Nicky’s Photography Keith and Alison were at school together where Alison used to admire Keith’s basketball skills and dashing looks! “We reconnected 20 years later on Facebook,” shares Alison. “Keith messaged first, and it grew from there. Our first date was a walk in the park, and we instantly connected, laughing and chatting for hours.” For a romantic winter proposal, Keith chose to book a stay at the Kent icon, Leeds Castle. “He’d been planning a special proposal for a year leading up to the date,” recalls Alison. “We arrived at Leeds Castle and, after a meal and a walk, he’d had so many opportunities to propose. When he hadn’t asked, I thought I’d let my imagination run away with me! At the end of the Christmas light trail, he dropped to one knee beneath the cathedral light arch and popped the question. It was very romantic and incredibly magical! “I love Christmas and winter, and Keith proposed on 21st December 2024. We were King and Queen of the castle for the evening.” The big date was set: 14th November 2025, with The Vines of Rochester setting the scene. The Vines ticked every box for the cosy, rustic yet classy and elegant vibe the couple wanted. “We decided on a winter boho-chic wedding and were hoping for a cold winter’s day,” shares Alison. “It rained, but that didn’t matter to us. In fact, it made the pictures even more beautiful.” Opting for three long reception tables, the couple chose winter garlands, fairylights and tall candles as centrepieces to emphasise the cosy seasonal theme. The florals, designed by Popples Posies, included pinecones and white roses. “Helen is amazing and helped me create my winter flowers,” adds Alison. The flowers complemented Alison’s dress perfectly. “I’ve always loved the boho look and decided it would fit with my theme. Kiss the Bride in Rochester were a great help in choosing the perfect dress, and I instantly loved it,” recalls Alison. Keith wore a four-piece navy suit with a tan check, paired with a rustic tie and matching handkerchief. The bridesmaids complemented both the groom and the theme in brown cowlneck dresses with shoulder wraps. To entertain guests, the couple booked evening band Crazy Water Common, featuring banjo and guitar performances. “We found them at Gurkha Fire one evening, and they were exactly what we were looking for. The banjo and guitar fitted perfectly with the boho vibe,” adds Alison. “The guests danced the evening away, and the band even played a song Keith had written for me. They were fantastic, and guests have since asked how they can see them perform again.” Determined to enjoy every moment, the couple made a conscious effort to take it all in. “We kept stepping away together to fully immerse ourselves in the day,” recalls Alison. “Getting ready was very special. The Vines really helped me feel calm and gave me a lovely room to get ready in with the girls. “We went off for photos around Rochester Castle and in The Vines’ grounds after the ceremony. It was magical, even though it was raining the photos are fabulous. Nicky is incredibly talented and made us all feel relaxed. “Keith’s brother delivered a very funny speech, completely at their father’s expense, sharing some rather embarrassing stories from their childhood that had the room in fits of laughter, leaving Keith’s poor dad mortified and his mum giggling. “Julie, the wedding coordinator, was fabulous. In fact, all the team at The Vines were faultless and went above and beyond to make everything perfect for us.” REAL WEDDINGS 33

Marriage, Money, Rosanne Godfrey-Lockwood, Family Barrister at 4PB explores Gen Z couples and the rise of prenups As a family barrister, I spend much of my professional life dealing with what happens when relationships break down,” shares Roseanne. “That vantage point inevitably shapes how I think about marriage — not cynically, but realistically. It is perhaps unsurprising, then, that one of the most notable trends I have observed in recent years is the growing interest in prenuptial agreements among Gen Z and younger Millennial couples. “Once regarded as the preserve of celebrities or the very wealthy, prenups are now firmly entering the mainstream. Far from signalling a lack of faith in marriage, this shift reflects a broader generational rethinking of what commitment looks like in a modern world — and, in many cases, a desire to approach marriage with clarity, transparency and mutual respect.” Here, Rosanne tells us more… WHY YOUNGER COUPLES ARE EMBRACING PRENUPS Younger generations are marrying later than their parents and grandparents did. By the time many couples reach the altar, they have already built careers, purchased property, launched businesses or accumulated savings — sometimes alongside student debt or other financial obligations. This means they are no longer starting from a blank slate. In my experience, Gen Z clients are far more comfortable having open conversations about money than previous generations. They have grown up against a backdrop of economic uncertainty, rising living costs and widespread awareness of divorce. Many have witnessed the financial and emotional consequences of relationship breakdowns within their own families. As a result, they are often keen to avoid ambiguity. For these couples, a prenuptial agreement is not about planning for failure; it is about understanding each other fully before marriage. It is a way of setting expectations at a calm, constructive moment — rather than leaving difficult questions to be resolved under pressure at a later date. MARRIAGE AS A DUAL PARTNERSHIP We are seeing a move away from viewing marriage solely through a romantic lens. Younger couples are increasingly viewing the union as a dual-faceted partnership: one that is deeply emotional, yes, but also undeniably financial. In previous generations, marriage often marked the beginning of financial life. Couples started with nothing and built everything together. Today, the timeline has shifted. Younger couples are marrying later, often in their late 20s or early 30s. By the time they reach the altar, they have already established independent financial identities. Couples are understandably eager to protect those identities which they have worked hard to create. and ModernLove “ 46
PRENUPS AS PRACTICAL, PROACTIVE TOOLS When drafted properly, a prenuptial agreement is a flexible and thoughtful document. It can protect assets acquired before the marriage, clarify how future wealth is treated, and set out how financial responsibilities are shared. Importantly, it can also address debt — an issue of particular relevance to younger generations. Crucially, modern prenups are increasingly collaborative rather than adversarial. They encourage full financial disclosure and open dialogue, helping both partners understand where the other is coming from. In that sense, they often function as much as a relationship exercise as a legal one. I often explain to clients that a prenup is akin to an insurance policy or a will: something you hope never to rely upon, but are glad to have in place. It does not predict divorce any more than life insurance predicts tragedy. It simply acknowledges that life is unpredictable. A NEW WAY OF BUILDING WEALTH Another important factor driving this shift is the way younger couples build and manage wealth. Many no longer rely on a single, linear career path. Instead, they may juggle multiple income streams, entrepreneurial ventures or investment portfolios alongside traditional employment. By the time they marry, both partners may have distinct financial identities — and rightly wish to retain a degree of independence within the relationship. Prenuptial agreements can help strike that balance, recognising individual contributions while still committing to a shared future. The nature of wealth itself has changed, and this is perhaps the greatest driver of the “Gen Z Prenup.” Younger professionals are building wealth differently. They aren’t just bringing a savings account and a car to the marriage; they are bringing diverse and complex asset portfolios. In my area of expertise, we often see young couples with: • Established careers: High-earning individuals who have spent a decade climbing the corporate ladder. • Entrepreneurial ventures: Gen Z is the most entrepreneurial generation yet. Many enter marriage owning or part-owning s tart-ups, digital businesses, or scale-ups with significant future growth potential. • Multiple income streams: From side hustles and freelance portfolios to digital assets and cryptocurrency, the modern balance sheet is more «fragmented» than it used to be. • The bank of mum and dad: With the UK housing market as it is, many young couples receive help from parents to secure a first home. A prenup is often a condition of that gift, ensuring that family inheritance or deposits remain protected for future generations. From my perspective, this reflects maturity rather than selfinterest. It allows couples to enter marriage as equals, each bringing something of value to the partnership, rather than assuming an automatic merging of everything without discussion. A SIGN OF CONFIDENCE IN MARRIAGE, NOT DOUBT Perhaps the most important point to make is this: the rise of prenups among Gen Z does not mean younger generations believe less in marriage. They simply understand the financial reality and consequences associated with it. Perhaps the internet, and more specifically, AI has just made it easier to understand those consequences.
