Get wedding day ready The four pillars of prepping for a big event The build up to your wedding day is a fabulous time to kick start a strong self-care routine. This doesn’t mean shredding it in the gym, or going on expensive spa days but instead, fortifying your skincare routine and getting to a good place mentally ready for a highly-emotional day. There are lots of things you can be doing to prepare for your wedding, and it often feels overwhelming thinking about the extensive lists. To help you break it down, we have separated it into four sections: mental health, skincare, body care, and haircare. These four pillars of the wedding world need some work before the big day, to ensure you feel as ready as possible. The most important of them all is your mental health; weddings can be stressful, keeping on top of your mental wellbeing will make the planning process so much better for you. Although, working on the other pillars will also contribute to a better mental wellbeing; as you will be looking after yourself more than ever. MENTAL HEALTH There will be lots going on when planning your wedding and protecting your peace will need to be your priority! This means not letting negative Nellies dictate how things are going to run on your special day. Where you can, separate wedding planning from your everyday life. Of course, the excitement and plans will creep in at times, but sticking to routines and minimising conflict in your relationship will ensure a smooth ride. Avoid stressful situations! There are a few elements of weddings that require an extra layer of planning and organisation. If you want something done in a particular way, communicate this early on! Another top tip for wedding planning is to start early and keep organised. A lot of couples choose to have a specific wedding email address – a great way for keeping all comms in one area and it means that no one has to face supplier emails alone. It’s also a great idea to keep a detailed wedding spreadsheet and to get things booked off as soon as possible. This doesn’t mean rushing decisions (which is why you need to start early), but instead, committing to suppliers when you know they are the one for you. The most important thing you can do for your mental health when wedding planning is to lean on your partner for help. Gone are the days where one person in the relationship does all the wedding planning, this is a joint affair and is the ultimate collaboration of your partnership. Lean on them for support during difficult decisions, managing family politics and organising the wedding timeline. Fundamentally, the thing to remember is that your wedding isn’t life or death – it’s a massive party with your loved ones to celebrate the union of you and your partner. No need to spend big bucks or get worked up over minor details. SKINCARE Skincare is the base that any wedding day makeup will be applied to, so it’s vital that we start looking after it. If you’re going barefaced, or don’t wear makeup, then ensuring a solid skincare routine will enable you to glow without help on the day. Ideally, you want to start your skincare journey as soon as possible, to give your skin time to get used to its new level of TLC. Typically, your skin will fall into one of four main types: normal, dry, oily/combination, or sensitive. I’ve collated all the best skincare advice for each skin type, so you can jump straight in with your shopping. NORMAL If you’re lucky enough to be graced with a normal skin type, then most of the hard work has already been done. All you need to do is maintain your skin barrier LOOKING YOUR BEST 77
