The mixed emotions felt at the end of the year can leave an odd taste in the mouth. On one hand, you’re excited for what next year might bring; on the other, a surge of sadness at another goodbye. The signing off of final projects before the Christmas break and everyone detailing their New Year’s Eve plans feels like it comes around quicker each year. But what about our brides, as the year ends? Chances are, you’ll be leaving 2025 on a high, knowing that in 2026 you’ll be entering your bridal era – to that I say a massive congratulations! Ahead of you is a year of final planning, celebrations, and the happiest day of your life. This will be your last Christmas as someone who has to tick “single” on official government forms. Plus, you can officially introduce your partner as your spouse – which certainly carries more weight to it. The engagement period seems to pass by in a flash and before you know it, your new passport is coming through the letter box with your shiny new name. That’s why I always recommend making the most of being fiancés. Bask in it for as long as you can and don’t rush to “I do” – there will be plenty of time, after the wedding, to relish in newlywed bliss. MERRY MARRIAGE A very Disco balls and Christmas tress lined the halls of Hayne House for Melissa and North’s wedding Images courtesy of Jade Greenbrooke Melissa and North’s wedding took place on the 12th December and had an elegant theme of Christmas, class, and disco. They met when they were 16 and have been in love ever since. This all came to a romantic high in 2019, when North decided to pop the question to Melissa. This wasn’t your typical candle-lit proposal; North decided his firefighter graduation ceremony was just the place to ask Melissa to be his forever spark. He flew across the crowd in a cherry picker and got down on one knee in front of the entire fire crew and the couple’s families. When it came to picking a venue, Melissa had been eyeing up Hayne House for a long time. “I’d seen it on social media and ogled over weddings there for years,” says Melissa. “I loved how it was a blank canvas and how bright it was in the orangery – essential as we were having a festive wedding and didn’t want it to be gloomy.” Melissa and North’s theme was a festive one, with pops of disco balls throughout and elegant textures such as pine and velvet. They had deep green velvet scattered around the venue, with bows on the back of the chairs, and ribbons on crackers. They also incorporated disco balls in the table arrangements, placed on the floor by the entrance and underneath their focal Christmas trees. The cracker place names were filled with silver hats and personalised messages from the bride and groom. Melissa and North served their guests a classic Christmas turkey dinner for their wedding breakfast, followed by an apple crumble and chocolate pudding for dessert. But that wasn’t it for sweet treats, as this couple ditched the traditional wedding cake and opted for a tower of 150 Krispy Kreme doughnuts. “We’re not huge on cake, and never actually eat anyone’s at their wedding,” shares Melissa. “The doughnuts went down a hit…everyone was dancing the night away with their drink in one hand and a doughnut in the other!” On the special day, Melissa wore a Morilee dress that she had altered to include sleeves. “My mum and sister went silent when I tried the dress on and when I spun around, they both teared up,” recalls Melissa. “I absolutely loved how I felt in it! I had no fake tan, no makeup, messy hair and still felt amazing.” North wore a tuxedo from Tuppers Tux and paired that with a velvet jacket from Bennetts Menswear – the groomsmen followed suit in tuxedos from Tuppers Tux. The bridesmaids (both of which were pregnant at the time) wore deep green velvet dresses with flared sleeves and the maid-ofhonour wore the same dress but in a chiffon material. During the ceremony and drinks, Melissa and North hired a pianist to play music from John Lewis’ Christmas adverts, they also had an illustrator draw the guests throughout the day, which acted as a fun conversation piece and memento. They had a saxophonist and a DJ in the evening to really keep the party pumping. “One moment that stood out was walking into our wedding breakfast,” says Melissa. “We opted for This is What You Came For by Rhianna and Calvin Harris; which had everyone waving their napkins in the air, smiling and singing their heads off. You could see the happiness and excitement in everyone’s eyes. Sitting on the shoulders of our best friends blaring out Oasis was pretty amazing too. We had the odd Christmas song play and it just put everyone in such a festive spirit.” REAL WEDDINGS 27

Maria and Ben met at work, and after six months of office flirting they went on their first date. Ben was about to move closer to London and wanted to get at least one date in before he left – choosing to take Maria for a romantic walk in Deal. Their long-distance relationship started and would consist of fleeting visits after work. Their love bloomed and they eventually moved in together. Ben popped the question after a day of mooching around Christmas markets. When it came to choosing a venue, Maria and Ben wanted something that felt magical. “We had visited a handful of venues, but Bradbourne House was the one that gave us that feeling of being the one,” says Maria. “The house felt like a place we could return to repeatedly.” When it came to selecting their theme, Maria and Ben decided to build one off of their chosen attire. With Ben selecting a navy suit, Maria thought a blush pink would suit this and created a theme from there. Their stationery included pink flowers and blue stars, made personal with some extra details. Their centrepieces were a mixture of high and low flowers, with LED candles dotted throughout – super romantic! For the ceremony, they used a white runner to give the feel of a classic church wedding in the great halls of Bradbourne House. REAL WEDDINGS 37
Their wedding cake was a three-tier masterpiece, consisting of flavours such as white chocolate, pistachio, raspberry, and coconut. The marriage of Ben and Maria was one rich in culture, with the binding of their British, Ukranian and Indian families. They honoured their heritage with the inclusion of an embroidered cloth wrapped around their arms, a song and the exchange of coloured garlands from their parents and grandparents. Maria’s dress was Claire by Enzoani from the Love collection and was instantly the one for her. “The soft sparkle of the fabric and delicate small petals falling from the top of the corset, spreading like vines on the skirt, created this new version of myself I was falling in love with,” recalls Maria. “I felt magical.” Ben wore a custom three-piece suit from Moss Bros, with floral lining on the back of his waistcoat and their initials and wedding date on the inside of the jacket. Ben and Maria made the most of Bradbourne House’s incredible grounds by including some garden games for their guests. The moment that stuck out to Maria the most was their first dance. She adds, “Ben and I aren’t the greatest dancers, but my creativity combined with my husband’s patience, and a few months of practice, allowed us to come up with a decent routine, with a few surprise lifts and spins that still has our family talking!” 38

The adult summer camp, bursting with activities and unique experiences The buzz that hangs in the air at a festival is electric, but what about one built with community in mind? I had the pleasure of attending Camp Wildfire this year for their 10-year anniversary and I was instantly thrown into a world of excitement. The premise of Camp Wildfire is that adults can live out their dreams of an American summer camp packed full of activities, games, and music. A natural fit for hen and stag parties, but in this review, you’ll meet two couples – one who got engaged at the event, and the other who made this their mini-moon destination. Having run for 10 years, the weekend-long event has evolved to include more games, new activities and traditions. The weekend isn’t all about team games; there’s also an incomprehensible range of activities you can try out when attending Camp Wildfire. I took part in kickboxing, axe throwing, and macramé – but if you’re more of a thrill seeker, then there are adrenaline-pumping ones too, such as trapeze, rock climbing, zip lining and many more. Breaking it down, Camp Wildfire is like no other and is the perfect destination for outgoing people. PITCH A TENT Accommodation varies and depends on how much you’re looking to spend. I stayed in the boutique camping area, in one of their luxury bell tents... my sort of camping! I can’t do the classic camping style and need my home comforts. The uniqueness of this event means that it would work for varying types of people – during my time at Camp Wildfire, it became clear the sense of community that has been built there.
