Your Kent Wedding - January/February 2024 (Issue 112)

LET THEM EAT CAKE Q I adore flowers and would love our cake to reflect the floral displays on the wedding day. How could a cake designer achieve this look? A Sugar flowers are a fantastic option to bring your wedding florals to the forefront of your wedding cake design. As a specialist in ultra realistic sugar flowers, I can recreate your wedding blooms in sugar to adorn your wedding cake and 95% of the wedding cakes I create have some element of floral aspect to them. Liaising directly with your florist means that I can match your flowers, colours and style of the arrangements perfectly through my beautifully created sugar floristry. Sugar flowers also give you the ability to have your cake decorated without any concerns regarding food safety. There are many fresh varities that are considered poisonous and should never be placed on your wedding cake but made from sugar there are no limitations to the design you can choose. Another way that I love to incorporate florals into my cake designs is using cocoa butter painting and palette knife techniques − different styles of painting are a perfect way to mirror your displays. As every cake I create is fully bespoke, I tailor my painted designs to seamlessly reflect my couples’ wedding flowers and often also combine this 2D-style alongside beautifully crafted sugar flowers for the ultimate floral extravaganza. Chelsea, Chelsea Buns Cake Design, www.chelseabuns.co.uk WITH THIS RING… Q We’re thinking about making our own wedding rings but have no idea of the cost or process – help! A Most couples who come to make their wedding rings have no prior experience. I break the process down into easy-to-follow steps. I demonstrate each step before you go and carry out the step yourself. Because each couple wants to make different ring designs, I price up materials individually per couple, but I’m happy to offer a no obligation estimate for you. At the end of the workshop, you can take your wedding rings away with you provided you don’t want them hallmarked, laser engraved, or stones added. If you do want any of the additional services, I can arrange all of that for you and let you know how long they will take. Elizabeth, Elizabeth Anne Norris Jewellery, www.eanjewellery.com #GIRLSQUAD Q I really want my bridal party to have a coordinated look; but with varying ages from five to 35 what’s the best way to achieve this? A Finding a dress that suits all your maids with different shapes, sizes and ages can be tricky. The key is sticking to no more than two variables, for example: different styles but same shade/ material, or same style but in difference complementing shades. For a fully cohesive bridesmaid look, we recommend the same dress in age-appropriate styles, thus creating full coordination in the same colour and fabric. Alternatively, a blended look can work just as well allowing each maid to select a style that they feel comfortable in but in the same colour and fabric – this will still offer a coordinated look whilst keeping your maids happy! Adding a hint of colour with a sash on an ivory or white flowergirl dress will complement your own gown and complete your bridal party. For that extra touch, coordinate your bridesmaids and groomsmen by using the same colour with accessories such as tie, pocket square and even socks! A We talk (and laugh!) a lot! This is where designing and creating a ceremony that is absolutely ‘you’ starts. Choosing to have a bespoke wedding ceremony with an independent celebrant means that this moment will be the heart of your day; and to get it just right, takes a lot of talking (usually on Zoom), a lot of questions, both in our chats and on your questionnaires, and a lot of laughing from us all! If you’re comfortable enough with your celebrant to share all your stories and a smattering of your secrets (knowing that unlike the best man’s speech you’ll have full editorial control over what goes into the final script), then we can create a ceremony for you that’s totally you and will leave your guests wondering how long we’ve been friends! And that’s how it will feel on the day itself. Your celebrant will steady your nerves and welcome you with a big smile into that special space we create together, the one where you can stand up in front of your friends and family, open a window for them into the fun of your world and make some truly meaningful promises.
