Your Kent Wedding - July/August 2022 (Issue 103)

Becky met tennis coach Nick through a mutual enjoyment of the sport. One evening, during a posttennis pub session, someone had the bright idea of taking part in a charity run for Sport Relief and Nick decided he’d watch the film Run Fat Boy Run to motivate him, which in turn sparked a conversation between the two about the many, many other films Becky had never seen! And so it was their epic Friday movie and pizza nights began. Through these evenings Becky and Nick grew close and 12 years later they’re still going strong! Incidentally, the couple did go on to compete in that Sport Relief run in 2010, dressed as red chilli peppers, because as Becky says, “Why not?” Nick had planned to pop the question in Bruges, while visiting the Christmas markets there, but unfortunately the trip had to be cancelled. Becky had been bitten by a dog in the line of duty as a veterinary nurse and following multiple visits to A&E, they decided it was best not to travel. Instead, they enjoyed a wonderful day out in London shopping at the Christmas markets, visiting Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and dining at the Heliot Steak House in Leicester Square. Nick surprised Becky with the proposal that evening. They did get to Bruges in the end though – exactly one year later, when they were able to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their engagement! When they started looking at venues, they found themselves attracted to St Julian’s Club. “We could have the ceremony and reception at the same venue, which is what we wanted. It wasn’t too big, so it suited our small guest list and we just couldn’t forget the gorgeous conservatory with its wisteria,” Becky explains.
