Your Hampshire and Dorset Wedding - July/August 2022 (Issue 93)

Q&A Beauty and fashion Look your big-day best with help from the experts DRESS SENSE What styles and fabrics would you suggest for a September wedding? If you’ve chosen a September wedding, you might be wondering what the weather will be like – a question we often get asked at dress fittings. Consider how warm you usually get and whether you feel the need to have something a little warmer than a thin, strappy summer dress. A Mikado satin gown with sleeves is a wonderful choice that’s classic and elegant. The fabric has a thicker appearance than soft satins, which would give the gown a more tailored look. Alternatively, you could select a pretty lace dress with capped or three-quarter-length sleeves and add a wrap to keep warm. There are many wraps available, from the classic fur to a more subtle tulle that can have some sparkle added. Even a simple pashmina can work for keeping the chill off, leaving you to choose the dress that suits you best regardless of the time of year. An illusion back with buttons down to the waist or lower also looks stunning and gives you just enough coverage. Mary Cox | Twirl Bridal Boutique | www.twirlbridal.co.uk SUMMER READY How do I create a dewy make-up look for my summer wedding? Great skin always starts with skincare and what you put into your body. Drink as much water as you can physically consume and eat as healthy as possible in the run up to your wedding. I always recommend Tropic Skincare, the business is organic, vegan and 100 per cent natural. The company’s ABC collection is excellent, especially the cleanser, toner and moisturiser. I always say that feeding your skin with moisture is the difference between a prune and a grape. Cosmetics wise, I would use the Urban Decay All Nighter Ultra Glow Face Primer and the Light Reflecting Foundation from NARS Cosmetics. The foundation has medium coverage, which is buildable and gives the skin such a natural glow – it’s perfect for that dewy look for summer weddings. Mel Tilsed | Bournemouth Bridal Hair and Makeup www.bournemouthbridalhairandmakeup.com ACCESSORISE AND SHINE I’m trying to find the perfect pieces to finish off my wedding look, what style jewellery is currently on-trend? Finding the perfect dress can be a mammoth task in its own right. Once you’ve found the one, it’s time for accessories. Of course, each dress design will lend itself to a different jewellery style, and perhaps you have something old and borrowed to wear. We love the idea of wearing your nana’s pearls, but make sure it has been recently restrung so you don’t have any mishaps on the big day. Pearl jewellery has been a staple bridal piece for many years. However, we’re seeing less of the traditional string of pearls and much more modern and creative pieces, such as gold metal with the white pearls. Our collections by Ania Haie Jewellery and Claudia Bradby offer plenty of pearl choices for your big day that won’t break the bank as we know how expensive things can be. Alongside pearls, we’ve noticed a big trend in initial pendants in the last year. Whether you wear one with your own initial or your spouse’s, our petite Diamond Initial Pendants have been a best-seller for us for wedding jewellery and gifts for bridesmaids. The pendants offer just the right amount of sparkle and elegance while not detracting from the dress, which is the main event.
