The supplier will work closely with the bride to create a perfect look for her, the wedding dress and overall style; this may involve multiple consultations and trial runs. The team will need to take extra care to ensure the bride’s make-up looks flawless and will last throughout the day, which may mean using more products and extra techniques compared to regular looks. Bridal make-up is often done in challenging conditions where the supplier may need to work in a small space with limited light and distractions from other guests and wedding vendors. Make-up artists are in high demand and usually book up months in advance for weddings, so they charge a premium for their services. In addition to these reasons, they also need to factor in the cost of their time, materials and overhead when setting their prices. They also need to make a living wage, and the main wedding season is only a few months long. If you’re on a budget, you can find a supplier offering a discount for bridal make-up. However, it’s important to remember that you get what you pay for. A professional make-up artist will have the experience and skills to create a beautiful, lasting look for your wedding day. Here are some additional things to consider... •Get recommendations from friends, family, or wedding vendors. •Interview multiple artists and ask about their experience and style. •Request to see before-and-after photos of their work. •Get everything in writing, including the price, the services included, and the cancellation policy. •By researching and choosing a reputable make-up artist, you can be sure to look your best on your wedding day. A wedding is a special day, so you’ll want to make the most of it with your loved ones. The perfect time to get married depends on what’s most important to you. As a hair and make-up artist working with brides for the last 23 years, I’ve found that each couple has decided on their wedding time for many different reasons. Firstly, check what times are available for your wedding! You’ll need to consider travel if you have two separate venues for the ceremony and reception. Think about how long you’d like for photos after the wedding, so it doesn’t feel rushed. Next, find out when you can have food served at your reception. Also, consider how long you’d like to mingle with your guests during the day and what gaps you’d like to take everything in. For some brides, getting ready in the morning is an integral part of the day. Some with a larger wedding party may prefer to get up less early. An afternoon wedding might be ideal if that’s the case, whereas morning ceremonies work well for nearlyweds who want minimal help with the look and will likely be up early. If you have a photographer in the morning to take photos while getting ready or for the dress reveal shot, you’ll need to be ready a little earlier than usual. Once you have considered these factors, work it all backwards so you’ll know your ideal time to get married. Melinda Hollis | Makeovers by Melinda www.makeoversbymelinda.co.uk 69 ASK THE EXPERTS
