Your Herts and Beds Wedding - August/September 2022 (Issue 93)

THE ONLY WAY IS GLAM What are your top expert beauty tips to get me looking my best? Skincare is so important if you want make-up that doesn’t only look amazing, but has the longevity you’re looking for on your wedding day. Ensure you use a cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser, eye cream morning and evening and a light exfoliator once a week – don’t forget your SPF during the day too. Some brides like to treat themselves to a few facials in the lead-up to their wedding day. This isn’t a necessary step, but it helps ensure your skin is in tip-top shape for a flawless make-up application. My make-up style always incorporates glowy skin. Although I achieve this with an array of products, taking care of your skin before your trial and the big day will mean you’re already glowing before the glamming process begins. Some of my favourite skincare products are Charlotte Tilbury Magic Serum Crystal Elixir, Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base, Pixi Glow Tonic, Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm and the Brightening Dark Circle Eye Cream REN Clean Skincare. We love that couples are making their special day more sustainable and eco friendly. Using pieces already in your family is the easiest way to make your wedding jewellery sustainable – this could be a relative’s necklace or bracelet. Some nearlyweds even use family wedding rings that get passed down through generations. Not only do the items carry beautiful sentimental value and history, but it saves you money and is a form of recycling. If you don’t have any wedding bling in the family or your tastes are too different, the next step might be to look at pre-owned jewellery. We have a beautiful selection of pre-owned items in store that couples often purchase for their wedding day. Each piece has a different story to tell. Another option is lab-grown diamonds, which are growing in popularity. Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds; the only difference is that they’ve been grown in a laboratory under particular conditions rather than in the earth. This makes them more sustainable as mining diamonds can significantly impact the environment and only costs 20 to 40 per cent less than natural diamonds, which is more sustainable for your bank balance. Finally, gold jewellery itself is very sustainable and is one of the most recycled and re-used materials – no one throws gold in the bin! It gets melted down and re-made into something new. Beyond the jewellery you’re purchasing, maybe check out the business you’re buying it from. Does the company use plastic-free packaging or stock ethical and sustainable brands? At Godshaws, all our packaging is recyclable and we’ll take back your boxes and bags if you no longer want them!
