Hello and welcome to the June/July issue of Your Herts & Beds Wedding. I am so excited to be taking over the reins as the Editor of this fantastic magazine, and I couldn’t be more delighted to be part of such a special time in your lives. Planning a wedding is a journey filled with excitement, decisions and meaningful moments, and we’re here to make that experience as enjoyable and inspiring as possible. Think of this magazine as your companion – a place to return to whenever you need a fresh idea, a little reassurance or simply a quiet moment to dream about the day ahead. There’s something undeniably magical about summer weddings. The longer days, the softer evenings and that golden light that seems to make everything glow just a little brighter all set the scene beautifully. It’s a season that invites celebration, whether that’s an outdoor ceremony or a relaxed reception that stretches late into a balmy evening. Of course, we know British weather likes to keep us on our toes, so a back-up plan is wise! In this issue, we’re turning our attention to the details that make your day truly personal – those finishing touches that tie everything together and leave a lasting impression on you and your guests. We’re so glad you’re here! Louise Prance, editor Here comes the sun Louise x Your Herts & Beds Wedding is solely owned, published and designed by Ellis Media and Events Ltd. The couple chose a unique theme that blended Cinderella-esque elegance with a bold, tattooed biker twist. Their colour palette of purple and black may not immediately suggest a rustic barn setting, but when styled thoughtfully, it created a striking and sophisticated look. Guests were welcomed with drinks and a selection of canapés from the talented catering team at B & R Dining. This was followed by a hearty lamb dish with all the trimmings – perfect for a cosy winter celebration – before the wedding cake was served as dessert. To keep the celebrations flowing, the couple provided an open bar, along with bottles of red, white and rosé wine on each table for guests to enjoy. Get ready for inspiration-aplenty! To find out more, call 01223 207 581, email southfarm@southfarm.co.uk, or visit www.south-farm.co.uk Herts-based hairdresser Kim Sandford has given her top tips on what not to do on your wedding morning. Your wedding morning should feel relaxed, exciting and enjoyable, but after years of working with brides, there are a few common mistakes I’ve seen that can add unnecessary stress to the start of the day. Here’s what to avoid. Don’t steam your dress on the morning Steam your dress the night before instead. Heat and steam create humidity, and humidity is the enemy of freshly styled curls or an elegant updo. Your hair will thank you for planning ahead. Don’t skip your shower Hair should arrive clean, dry and completely free from product. Avoid using dry shampoo, oils or serums on the morning of your wedding, as these can make hair harder to style and affect how well your finished look holds throughout the day. Don’t wear a high-necked top Choose something that buttons or zips at the front and can be removed easily without pulling it over your head. The last thing you want is to disturb your finished hair and make-up while getting changed. Don’t leave your socks or bra on too long Take them off as early as possible to avoid strap marks or lines showing in your photographs. Don’t wait to open gifts Open cards and presents before hair and make-up begins. Once styling is underway, stopping and starting can disrupt the schedule and create unnecessary delays. A smooth, well-planned morning sets the tone for the rest of the day, allowing you to relax, stay present and enjoy every moment. The much-loved greenspace in the very heart of the town of Hertford, is so steeped in history and heritage; its host to the River Lea and a haven of natural beauty – the perfect wedding venue. Thanks to National Lottery players, Hertford Town Council (who manage Hertford Castle as a wedding venue), and its partners will deliver their plans for renewing Hertford Castle’s greenspace - subject to statutory permissions and consents. Over the past year and a half, an ambitious masterplan focused on heritage conservation, biodiversity enhancement, accessibility and community bene t has been developed. Key proposals for Hertford Castle’s greenspace include the conservation of historic features, restoration of the riverbanks and improvements to planting, access, seating, signage and heritage information, with a full programme of community activities. Now funding has been con rmed, further preparation for the project will continue, with improvement works expected to take place throughout 2028 and 2029. The investment will improve the grounds in so many ways, for the bene t of all - for generations to come. Combining re ections of its regal past and historic splendour, Hertford Castle is an exclusive wedding venue set within the peaceful riverside grounds. Now, couples have a unique chance to celebrate their wedding in Hertford Castle in 2026 or 2027 – after which, the wedding venue hire service will need to pause for works to begin. See www.hertfordcastle.co.uk to nd out more and secure your own moment in history. https://unsplash.com/@joody BRITS TO GIVE WHAT THEY CAN AFFORD AT WEDDINGS Against a backdrop of continued pressure on household budgets, ndings suggest Brits are taking a more realistic approach to wedding gifting, with affordability now sitting at the heart of what many believe is expected of guests. A quarter (24 percent) of Brits say they’re unsure what the ‘right’ amount to give even is, highlighting how unclear modern gifting expectations have become. Brits still want to mark the occasion and give something thoughtful, but the ndings suggest many are also weighing up what feels appropriate, useful and genuinely affordable. New research from One4all Gift Cards reveals that, above all else, Brits believe wedding guests are expected to give what they can afford. Almost four in ten (39 percent) say this is the most important expectation when attending a wedding. That does not mean tradition has disappeared, however. More than a third (35 percent) say guests should never turn up empty-handed, while a similar proportion (34 percent) believe sticking to the couple’s gift list is key. This more realistic mindset is also re ected in attitudes towards exible gifting. Nearly a third (31 percent) say cash or gift cards are appropriate, while 11 percent say group gifting is acceptable, suggesting many guests are looking for practical ways to give something useful without overextending themselves. Thoughtfulness also remains part of the picture, with 24 percent saying “it’s the thought that counts”, while 18 percent believe how much you spend should re ect your relationship with the couple. 8

Shuttleworth House is one of the region’s most celebrated historic venues Back in November 2025, Shuttleworth House was named Wedding Venue (Historic Building) of the Year for the East of England at The Wedding Industry Awards, highlighting its status as one of the region’s most celebrated historic venues. Fast forward to 17 May 2026, when visitors had the opportunity to explore Shuttleworth House rsthand and discover the rich history behind the award-winning wedding venue at a free event marking its 150th anniversary. A VARIED HISTORY Central to the celebration was a special exhibition titled ‘Shuttleworth House Through the Ages’, which guided visitors through the mansion’s varied history. The special exhibition began by exploring the mid-19th-century origins of Clayton & Shuttleworth and the House’s construction in the 1870s and 1880s, before delving into the lifestyle of the Shuttleworth family during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods. It then explored the House’s role as a convalescent home during both world wars, providing care for those affected by the con icts. After the Second World War, the establishment of Shuttleworth College and The Shuttleworth Trust marked a shift toward education, heritage preservation, and public engagement. Following Dorothy Shuttleworth’s passing, the House continued to adapt, eventually becoming the award-winning wedding and events venue that we know today. A tree planting ceremony also took place to commemorate the major anniversary, continuing the Shuttleworth family’s tradition of marking special occasions with additions to the surrounding grounds of the House, with local dignitaries in attendance at the ceremony. The Tithe Barn is perfectly positioned to meet all expectations, offering couples an extraordinary setting with unrivalled guest experience The resurgence of UK-based weddings has emerged as one of the defining shifts in the modern wedding landscape. Increasingly, couples are choosing to celebrate closer to home, drawn not only by practical considerations such as travel and budget, but by a growing desire for authenticity and connection. The so-called “staycation wedding” is no longer a compromise, it’s a conscious, considered choice. In many cases, it is redefining the very notion of a destination wedding, proving that extraordinary settings need not require a passport. HISTORIC CHARM Among these is The Tithe Barn, a striking example of how historic charm and contemporary refinement can coexist seamlessly. Set within the Bedfordshire countryside, this sensitively restored 13th-century barn captures the essence of understated elegance. Its original timber beams and soaring vaulted ceilings lend a sense of grandeur, while carefully considered lighting and modern touches ensure the space remains warm, intimate, and inviting. “There’s a real emotional resonance to spaces like this,” notes Millie, Wedding & Events Manager at The Tithe Barn “You’re not just hiring a venue, you’re stepping into a setting that already has a story, which couples can then make their own.” What further distinguishes the venue is its riverside setting. Couples have the option to arrive by boat, creating a memorable and cinematic entrance that sets the tone for the day. This connection to the water not only adds a sense of occasion but also offers stunning photographic opportunities throughout the celebration. A THOUGHT-OUT GUEST EXPERIENCE Equally compelling is the emphasis on guest experience. With thoughtfully designed on-site accommodation, the venue allows friends and family to remain together throughout the celebration, eliminating the logistical challenges that often accompany multi-location events. “It’s about flow,” Millie explains. “When everything happens in one place, the day feels more cohesive, more relaxed and people can truly be present.” Exceptional dining and exclusive-use options further reinforce this seamless approach, ensuring that each wedding unfolds with both ease and individuality. As priorities continue to shift toward sustainability, convenience, and meaningful experience, venues such as The Tithe Barn are perfectly positioned to meet these expectations. A UK wedding is not simply an alternative to going abroad; it is, increasingly, the aspiration itself: a celebration defined by place, personality, and timeless charm. A love that FELT LIKE HOME After meeting on a photoshoot and building a friendship that quickly turned into something deeper, Michelle and Joseph said “I do” in a beautiful winter wedding filled with biker spirit, elegance and unforgettable personal touches Michelle and Joseph’s story began in an unexpected setting – a photoshoot where Joseph was the upand-coming photographer and Michelle the biker influencer in front of the camera. What started with a shared Subway in a van quickly grew into a connection that felt effortless and real. Their bond deepened into a relationship where both could be completely themselves, leading Joseph to realise Michelle was the one for him! A heartfelt Christmas Eve proposal in their new home, complete with twinkling lights and a roaring fire, marked the start of their next chapter together. SETTING THE SCENE The couple chose The Barn at Alswick for its warm yet elegant feel. “We never pictured a barn wedding, but it just felt right,” says Michelle. With guests travelling from across the UK, the onsite glamping village made the venue even more special. Their theme combined soft, Cinderella-inspired elegance with a bold biker edge. A palette of purple and black brought a dramatic twist to the rustic setting, while fresh flowers and coordinated décor tied everything together beautifully. As photographers themselves, the couple paid close attention to detail. From bespoke stationery to personalised bikerinspired tarot card place settings, every element reflected their personality. “We wanted our guests to feel part of something unique,” Michelle explains. Guests enjoyed welcome drinks and canapés before a hearty lamb dish, followed by wedding cake for dessert. An open bar and table wine kept the celebrations flowing throughout the day. LOOKING THE PART Michelle wore a Maggie Sottero “Serifina” gown with a dramatic cathedral veil. “The moment I put it on, I felt like a princess,” she says. Joseph complemented her perfectly in a black tuxedo with personalised touches, including Batman cufflinks and themed details that reflected his personality. The bridal party tied everything together, with bridesmaids in Tahiti purple gowns and groomsmen in black tuxedos with matching purple accents. MOMENTS TO TREASURE Entertainment played a huge role in the day, starting with a violinist and gospel choir during the ceremony. One of the most unforgettable moments was the biker escort accompanying the couple to the venue. “It’s hard to explain how incredible it felt,” Michelle shares. Guests were treated to a range of unique experiences, including a tattoo van, cigar bar, live illustrators and surprise singing waiters. The couple’s choreographed first dance, complete with dry ice, seamlessly led into an evening of celebration. Reflecting on the day, Michelle adds, “Seeing everything come together and sharing it with the people we love was just amazing.” REAL WEDDINGS 27

WRITTEN in the stars From teenage friendship to a heartfelt lakeside proposal, Billy and Steph’s wedding was a beautifully personal celebration filled with theatre, creativity and meaningful touches Images courtesy of Caroline Acaster Photography 32

REAL WEDDINGS 33

Billy and Steph’s story began at school, where they were in the same year but never truly crossed paths. It wasn’t until later, through mutual friends, that their connection began to grow. “What started as friendship became shameless flirting,” Steph laughs, eventually leading to a relationship that would stand the test of time.Their proposal was just as memorable as their story. During a camping trip to the Lake District, Billy had planned to propose at the top of Scafell Pike, but unpredictable weather had other ideas. Instead, during a quiet moment by Wastwater, he seized the opportunity. “It turned into the most perfect, intimate, quiet moment,” Steph recalls. Well, and a few sheep! When it came to choosing their venue, the decision felt deeply personal. An Actor, Steph runs an outdoor theatre company, The Living Theatre Whitwell, set within the stunning grounds of St Paul’s Walden Bury Estate. Hosting their wedding there meant celebrating in a place filled with meaning. “It was built with so much love by people who mean so much to us,” she says. The couple held their ceremony in the estate’s formal gardens before moving to the theatre space for a relaxed and joyful reception. Their styling reflected Steph’s love of autumnal tones, despite their summer wedding date. Rusty oranges, deep greens and golds created a warm, romantic palette, complemented by rustic details including wooden tables, a tipi and soft lighting. 34

Flowers were especially meaningful, grown by Steph’s dad and arranged together in the days leading up to the wedding. “That made it feel even more special,” she says. True to their personalities, the day was filled with creative, theatrical touches. Instead of traditional readings, scenes from Much Ado About Nothing were performed by actor friends during the ceremony, even interrupting the moment before their first kiss. “Guests told us it was the most distinctive ceremony they’d ever seen,” Steph shares. Their joint speech continued the theme, delivered as a playful awards ceremony celebrating the people who helped bring their day to life. Food was another reflection of the couple’s priorities. With the entire wedding outdoors and Steph being coeliac, they opted for a fully glutenfree fish and chip van. “We wanted big crowdpleasing options as fancy sit-down dinners didn’t really reflect what we enjoy as a couple, and what could be more crowd-pleasing than fish and chips?” she explains – and it proved a huge hit with guests. Steph’s dress was a true labour of love, designed and handmade by her friend, costume designer Jade Newman Turner. Featuring a pleated corset, flowing skirt and detachable dramatic sleeves, it evolved throughout the day. “I loved every minute of the process,” Steph says. Hidden details, including embroidered flowers and their wedding date, made it even more special. Billy opted for a classic black tuxedo with modern touches, paired with statement boots and sunglasses for their outdoor setting. His relaxed yet polished look perfectly complemented the creative atmosphere of the day. One of Steph’s most treasured moments was walking down the aisle. “It gave me time to take everything in – our friends, our family, and seeing Billy waiting for me,” she says. After the ceremony, the couple took a quiet moment together beneath the trees. “It was just us, taking it all in.” For Billy, seeing Steph for the first time and their first dance stood out. As they danced to You’re Still the One, they invited their guests to join them, creating a spontaneous group hug on the dancefloor. “It’s one of our favourite memories,” they share. Reflecting on their wedding, the couple’s advice is simple: “Make it about you as a couple. So much of what we love and remember from our day are the things that we did, not because they were traditional, but because they reflected us as a couple.” REAL WEDDINGS 35

Check out this refined and romantic styled shoot blending regal details, soft femininity and classic bridal beauty across two stunning locations Images courtesy of Purple Kite Photography ELEGANCE This elegant styled shoot was brought to life by hair and makeup artist Charlotte, whose vision was to create timeless, romantic content that showcased her skills while collaborating with a talented creative team. Inspired by a desire to elevate her portfolio, Charlotte set out to design a concept that felt sophisticated, feminine and effortlessly refined. The inspiration began unexpectedly when Charlotte visited All Nations College and was immediately captivated by its striking architecture and serene atmosphere. “I instantly fell in love,” she explains, recognising its potential as the perfect backdrop for a romantic bridal concept. Paired with the soft, intimate setting of Mayflower Place for the preparation scenes, the shoot unfolded across two complementary locations, each enhancing the overall narrative. The styling focused on an elegant and regal aesthetic, combining soft textures with classic bridal details. Flowing gowns, delicate fabrics and refined silhouettes created a timeless look, while the hair and makeup reflected a polished yet natural finish, enhancing the model’s features without overpowering the overall softness of the concept. The morning preparations were captured at Mayflower Place, where the team created a relaxed and feminine atmosphere with dressing gowns and soft styling touches. Outdoor shots at All Nations College included seasonal florals that further enhanced the romantic feel, bringing a softness that balanced the architectural setting. Working alongside Purple Kite Photography and Inkley Media, Charlotte’s vision was captured with a blend of editorial and candid imagery, highlighting both the finer details and the natural emotion of the shoot. Golden hour is one of the most treasured moments of a wedding day, especially for couples who want timeless and romantic photographs, says Lee Walsh Photography Occurring just before sunset, golden hour provides soft, warm, and flattering natural light that enhances every detail of a wedding celebration. Unlike harsh midday sunlight, golden hour creates a dreamy atmosphere that makes skin tones glow beautifully and reduces strong shadows, resulting in elegant and cinematic images. For the bride and groom, the golden hour is more than just a photography trend. It offers a quiet and intimate moment away from the busy schedule of the day. Between the ceremony, family portraits, and reception activities, couples often have little time alone together. A short 10 minute golden hour session allows them to reconnect, relax, and enjoy a few peaceful moments as newlyweds while I can capture genuine emotions and candid interactions. The visual impact of golden hour photographs is unmatched. The warm sunlight adds depth, romance, and emotion to every image, transforming ordinary backgrounds into magical scenes. Whether the wedding takes place on a beach, in a countryside garden, or at a luxury venue, golden hour enhances the natural beauty of the surroundings and creates unforgettable portraits. Ultimately, golden hour is important because it combines beautiful lighting with authentic emotions. These photographs often become the most cherished memories from the wedding day, preserving the love, joy, and connection between the couple in the most enchanting way possible. 07944 911154 sarah@bloomandsproutfloralboutique.com www.bloomandsproutfloralboutique.com Bloom & Sprout Floral Boutique celebrates first anniversary Bloom & Sprout Floral Boutique is celebrating its first anniversary following what owner Sarah Genco describes as “a rollercoaster of emotions from highs to lows.” The business journey began just over a year ago after the loss of Sarah’s mum in June 2024. Having been an only child, she spent several months sorting everything out before returning to work, but realised something had changed. Having worked with horses for many years, Sarah reflected on her mum’s frequent words: “You’re not getting any younger and you can’t work with horses forever.” Following a serious fall in 2008 which left her with a broken vertebrae and ongoing back problems despite surgery, the advice stayed with her. In May 2025, Sarah booked onto a beginners’ floristry workshop at The Cambridge Flower School and immediately fell in love with floristry. During the lunch break, she booked herself onto the career change course and later enrolled on further, more intensive courses covering all aspects of floral design. After the very first day, Sarah sat down with one of her best friends to decide on a name for the new business – and Bloom & Sprout Floral Boutique was born. Over the past year, she has attended wedding shows and met many brides and their families while discussing all things floral. Last September, she became the chosen florist for an old friend’s wedding – a moment she describes as incredibly emotional. “I can’t even explain the feeling of handing over a bouquet to the bride on her wedding day,” she says. “I think I cried before she did!” The business now has weddings booked throughout this year and into next year, while still offering some availability for the current wedding season. Bloom & Sprout Floral Boutique offers both bespoke floral work and wedding packages, catering for everything from small intimate celebrations to more luxurious weddings.
