So, we’ve caught up with Sarah Whyte at Purple Kite Photography to hear her top advice! Sarah says: Choose a venue with a bright, spacious indoor area for when the weather or light doesn’t cooperate. Spaces like Hanbury Manor’s Garden Court are ideal, as the glass walls and ceilings create the feeling of being outdoors. Lean into those winter vibes with your styling! Embrace the season’s glitz and glamour with crystals, glass and sparkle, which reflect light beautifully and give a frosty, elegant feel. Icy palettes like blues, silvers and greens, twinkling fairy lights and natural or glass-heavy venues all help create that winter magic. For a richer and warmer look, especially around Christmas, go for reds, greens and golds, with natural touches like pinecones or berries. Accept that rain or snow might happen and don’t let it dampen your day; some of the most beautiful photos are taken in the rain. Have a plan B for outdoor moments, use clear umbrellas for romantic rainy portraits and keep your timeline flexible so you can dash outside whenever the weather allows. Plan a relaxed, realistic timeline around the shorter daylight hours. Schedule your ceremony earlier to make the most of natural light for portraits and group shots. Limit formal group photos to capture the essentials without leaving guests standing out in the cold. Plan couple portraits before the meal and, if possible, sneak out later for a few golden-hour shots. Build in buffer time so you’re not rushing around. Most of all, go with the flow. Winter brings surprises, unexpected delays or sudden weather changes, but embrace them as part of the story and enjoy every second!
