A secluded countryside haven offering exclusive use, relaxed luxury and unforgettable spaces Bursting with romantic charm, South Farm is a unique barn and country house wedding venue on the Hertfordshire/ Cambridgeshire borders, and looking after its little part of the world is a big priority for the team. With a stunning location, a lovingly restored Grade-II listed farmhouse, a beautiful summerhouse set in formal gardens, a magnificent Tudor Barn and other converted barn buildings, it provides a host of enchanting indoor and outdoor ceremony and reception spaces, whatever the weather. Stunning spaces The Drawing Room is an intimate space for up to 35 guests; the light-filled Old Dairy, overlooking the paddocks, accommodates up to 100 guests; and the grand Tudor Barn, with its stunning elm beams and fairy lights, hosts up to 146. The garden Summerhouse is simply stunning, providing a gorgeous outdoor Spring and Summer setting, and the Horse Barn is a lovingly converted, high-specification, flexible venue space. Originally the home of eight working shire horses, as well as a ceremony space, it now offers the facility to have a designated dancing space in the evenings. With a part-glazed suspended dance floor and dramatic designer lighting, it’s a stunning addition. With exclusive use for the duration of the wedding, exceptional service from South Farm’s friendly and professional team and detailed planning from experienced wedding coordinators, guests enjoy its delicious home-grown food and award-winning menus, taking full advantage of the wide varieties of seasonal fruit and vegetables grown on-site. Wildflower meadows and orchards create the perfect wedding backdrop and wildlife haven. The gardens are stunning year-round, offering colour and interest in every season. Highlights include a shimmering winter garden, woodland bulbs brightening the spring beds, overflowing ever-changing summer blooms and the rich golds and crimsons of the heritage arboretum in autumn. Homegrown food The organic smallholding, spread over ten acres, is quite exceptional in the range and excellence of its year-long seasonal supplies. Menus are seasonally tailored to what is growing in the smallholding and, if there’s anything a couple has been imagining, the team will try to make it happen. Having fresh produce with zero food miles, including eggs from the chickens and pork from the free-range kune kune pigs, means every couple gets the benefit of the most amazing fresh ingredients. The rustic Barnyard lies at the heart of South Farm and is home to a collection of rare breed animals. The piglets melt guests’ hearts and, along with chickens, ducks, turkeys and peacocks, keep children and guests entertained. South Farm now also has two wonderful miniature donkeys, Snowdrop and Bluebell, along with three adorable pygmy goats — there’s always something to see and enjoy! Rest your head As with everything at South Farm, the accommodation is distinctly different. Guests may stay in comfortable bedrooms, a unique collection of Romany Caravans and Showman’s Wagons, or even bring a tent or campervan and camp! South Farm is dedicated to offering a beautiful setting empowered by sustainability, with a commitment to environmental responsibility. It means everything to the team that couples entrust them with their wedding day, and their ethos helps reduce the carbon footprint while creating a perfect backdrop for the wedding of their dreams. FROM NEW YORK to ‘I do’ Lianne and Ellis’ wedding brought together timeless style, heartfelt moments and showstopping entertainment in one unforgettable day Images courtesy of Esmé Robinson Photography 22

REAL WEDDINGS 23

These lovebirds met online, sparking a connection that grew almost instantly! Lianne, a current broadcaster and former English professional footballer, was living in New York at the time when her best friend convinced her to change her location to the UK because she wasn’t meeting anyone who fit what she was looking for. “We both liked each other’s photos,” Ellis recalls, “but then Lianne deleted the app before seeing my ‘like’. A month later, she reappeared and we started talking. Our love for Disney really connected us!” When they finally met in person, it was at Hyde Park during the Covid-19 lockdowns. “We socially distanced and walked around for hours talking more,” Ellis says, “and the rest is history!” Lianne proposed at The Grove in Watford. She had arranged for a car to collect Ellis on their anniversary. “When I arrived, there was a drink waiting for me downstairs, and then she blindfolded me and led me to a room upstairs decorated with flowers, lights, candles, rose petals and photos of us,” Ellis comments. “There were light-up letters that spelt out, ‘Will you marry me?’” THE LOCATION Choosing the venue was an unexpected but magical moment. Ellis explains, “We had a handyman who came round to help with putting up pictures and other bits, since both Lianne and I are rubbish at DIY. While chatting, he told us he also DJ’d and mentioned this venue he worked at on the weekends. He said it looked like something from the South of France and showed us photos on Instagram. We fell in love immediately and went to view it the very next day. We both had goosebumps before even seeing the whole place. It was the first venue we saw, and we just knew it was perfect – we booked it there and then!” From the waterfall and the grounds to the welcoming owners and relaxed rules, it just felt right for the lovebirds. SETTING THE SCENE The couple chose a timeless and elegant colour palette of black, white, gold and coconut milk. Ellis comments, “Those colours really reflected the classy yet modern look we were going for – it all came together beautifully.” Guests were treated to a delicious selection throughout the day. There were canapés like mini jacket potatoes, prawn toast topped with cream cheese and king prawn, mini-Yorkshire puddings 24

with rare beef and vegetable dim sum. The sit-down meal began with a prawn cocktail starter, followed by chicken breast in a creamy garlic sauce, dauphinoise potatoes and a selection of vegetables. Dessert offered a choice between chocolate fondant or treacle sponge pudding. Later in the evening, loved ones enjoyed bacon rolls, mini hot dogs and mini fish and chips. LOOKING THE PART Ellis wore a stunning Enzoani gown, the kind of dress that didn’t just look beautiful but felt like it was made for her. She comments, “It wasn’t what I imagined but when I put it on, but my mum, dad and sister all agreed – it was the one!” Lianne wore a chic three-piece suit from Marc Darcy, paired with matching Prada ties for her bridesman and maid-of-honour. She completed the look with matching shoes and a sleek Prada earring, bringing the whole ensemble together effortlessly. The bridal party wore coordinating pieces, keeping everything cohesive and stylish. TIME TO CELEBRATE The day ran from 12:30 pm to midnight. “We were worried we might be too tired,” Ellis admits, “but we were able to talk to every single one of our guests, which meant so much to us.” Entertainment was a huge part of the day as the couple wanted something going on at every stage, and the feedback from guests was unbelievable. From a saxophonist during welcome drinks to a gospel choir for the ceremony, the day was filled with music and magic. Ellis says, “While we were off taking photos, guests were entertained by stilt walkers, the saxophonist and a magician!” Guests also enjoyed a ‘pimp my prosecco’ station, a live singer during dinner and later, a photo booth with props, a chocolate fountain and more stilt walkers. Then Mic Lowry, who made it to the semi-final of The Voice in 2024, performed in the evening, followed by fireworks and finally DJ Spoony, who finished off the night with a great set! “We debated whether to have fireworks, but it turned out to be the highlight of the day,” Ellis adds. “We were able to customise the display with our choice of songs and even got to press the button to start on the count of three! The photos that were taken while the fireworks were going off are incredible, we’re just so happy that our favourite moment was captured forever.” “We were always told that we were too laid back and asked why we hadn’t done this and that in time, but we planned and arranged the whole wedding ourselves without a wedding planner. Some things didn’t go to plan, but we always found a way and it was perfect. If you think you can do it yourself - believe it… we did!” 26

Crafted with love Romance, rustic charm and personal touches came together perfectly for Joanne and Carl’s wedding at Tewinbury Farm Images courtesy of Lee Walsh Photography These lovebirds first crossed paths through Joanne’s brother and Carl’s best friend, Will, around seven years ago. From the very beginning, there was an undeniable spark between them. What started as innocent moments of getting to know each other soon blossomed into playful flirting. Eventually, Carl asked Will for permission to take Joanne on a date, and she didn’t hesitate. On that evening together, they opened their hearts and confessed the feelings that had quietly grown between them and from that night on, they haven’t been apart. A few years later, the couple received the joyous news that they were expecting a baby. Soon after, under a breathtaking sunset back in July 2022, Carl proposed. He had been keeping the ring for some time, knowing he wanted to propose at the perfect moment and it was everything they could have dreamed of! SETTING THE SCENE When it came to finding their dream wedding venue, Joanne had always loved the idea of a barn wedding. “I thought we had already picked our venue until we came across Tewinbury Farm and fell in love instantly,” she comments. The grounds were amazing, and the staff were so friendly and welcoming.” The couple chose a sage and blush pink colour scheme, which perfectly complemented the rustic setting. Almost everything at their wedding was DIY, except for the bridal flowers and top table arrangement. They hung fairy lights, added 4ft letters spelling “LOVE” and Joanne created her own floral centrepieces with personalised LED bottles. Welcome signs, seating plans and the order of the day were all made from pallets. Even the invitations were handmade. Joanne and Carl spent many evenings crafting and personalising every detail together. FOOD FOR THOUGHT During the day, canapés were served alongside reception drinks. The wedding breakfast was a three-course meal consisting of farm tomato and roast pepper soup, rosemary and sage shoulder of lamb and a lemon and lime tart with vanilla crème fraiche. Later in the evening, guests enjoyed pizzas to keep everyone from going hungry. LOOKING THE PART Joanne looked beautiful in her wedding dress, which she had made minor alterations to after purchase. The bride, her mum and her mother-in-law had visited three bridal shops, trying on a variety of styles. After trying many options, she knew the specific dress style she wanted. After a Google search, she found the exact dress. The following day, they visited a store in the hope of finding it, and luckily, it was there. Joanne fell in love instantly! Carl and the groomsmen all looked dapper in grey three-piece tail suits with ivory waistcoats and sage cravats, while the bridesmaids wore sage multiway dresses, and the junior bridesmaid wore a blush pink dress. They all complemented each other beautifully. TIME TO CELEBRATE The couple had Renèe Dunford singing throughout guest arrivals, the ceremony and reception drinks, adding an extra romantic touch to the day. It didn’t stop there as guests enjoyed delicious canapés, garden games that were a hit with loved ones, a photo booth that captured many funny moments throughout the night and glow sticks that helped kick off the evening party. The pair also had a toastmaster, John Taylor, who ensured the day ran smoothly. MEMORABLE MOMENT One of the most special moments of the day was Joanne’s pre-recorded message to Carl before she walked down the aisle. “It was my way of sharing my feelings for him,” the bride comments. “I was so excited and nervous at the same time to have this played to all our guests, including Carl. All my loved ones said how beautiful it was. It was the perfect start to our magical day, and was definitely a special moment for Carl.” REAL WEDDINGS 31

Crafting your wedding story Explore how photography, videography and creative content come together to capture, preserve and share the magic of your special day When it comes to life, the most memorable moments often pass in a flash and weddings are no exception. From fleeting glances to heartwarming exchanges, every second is filled with emotion and meaning. In the whirlwind of the day, it’s easy to miss those subtle, beautiful moments: a look of love, spontaneous dance moves, the sound of shared laughter, and everything in between. That’s why wedding photography is so essential, to ensure nothing is missed. A great photographer should seamlessly blend into the background, reading the room, anticipating emotions, and capturing every special memory as it unfolds. STYLES AND APPROACHES When it comes to finding the perfect wedding photographer, the first step is figuring out the style of photography that speaks to you. So, hop on socials, browse portfolios, and see what instantly catches your eye. To help you narrow it down, here are some popular styles: • Classic portraits If you’re after something timeless and elegant, classic portraits are the way to go. This style focuses on beautifully composed photos of the couple, bridal party, and family. Every detail, from lighting to backgrounds, is carefully planned to create polished, refined images that will never go out of style. • Documentary photography Prefer something more natural and unscripted? Documentary-style photography is all about capturing real, unposed moments as they unfold. Your photographer blends into the background, snapping candid shots of laughter, dancefloor moves and those “ugly smile” moments you’ll cherish forever. It’s storytelling through images, authentic and full of emotion. • Artistic and editorial Inspired by fashion and fine art photography, this style transforms your wedding gallery into a series of statement pieces. Think creative angles, dramatic lighting, and bold compositions that scream personality. Whether you’re after moody, dreamy, or innovative vibes, editorial photography delivers striking, magazine-worthy images. • Film photography revival They say trends always come back, and film photography is making a huge return! Loved for its soft grain, rich texture and nostalgic tones, film adds a romantic and timeless quality that digital sometimes can’t replicate. Many couples choose to mix film with digital for a unique, character-filled album. TIPS FOR COUPLES When it comes to planning your wedding photography, start by creating a mood board filled with images that inspire you. Sharing this with your photographer helps keep your vision clear and ensures you’re both on the same page. Remember, it’s great to have a plan, but don’t forget to give your photographer creative freedom to work their magic. They’re the experts for a reason and have captured dozens, if not hundreds, of weddings in all kinds of settings. Your photographer can also guide you on the ideal timing for couple portraits, especially during the coveted golden hour when the light is soft, warm and oh-so-magical. Ask your photographer to capture the little details that make your day uniquely yours like the rings, invitations, flowers, accessories, table styling, and all the thoughtful touches. These small snapshots help tell the full story of your wedding day. unsplash.com@mesutcicen PHOTOGRAPHY PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY 43

While wedding photography captures a single, beautiful moment in time, wedding videography lets you relive the magic, complete with motion, sound and music that brings your day to life. There’s something truly special about watching your wedding unfold over again. From the moment you glide down the aisle and lock eyes with your partner, to the joyful confetti toss surrounded by cheering loved ones, every frame tells a story. You’ll hear the soft tremble in your voices during heartfelt speeches, feel the rush of emotion as you sway through your first dance, and smile at all the little moments you might have missed. Today’s films are more than just videos; they’re keepsakes, capturing not just how your wedding looked but how it felt. WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHY STYLES & TECHNIQUES When it comes to wedding videography, there are several styles and techniques to choose from that each offer a unique way to relive your special day. Here are some of the most popular options: • Cinematic films If you’ve ever dreamed of your wedding feeling like a movie, this style is for you. Cinematic films use carefully crafted shots, dramatic lighting and emotional music to create a heartfelt story that captures the day’s essence. The result is a moving, emotional and timeless. • Documentary style Much like documentary-style photography, this approach is all about authenticity. Your videographer becomes a fly on the wall, capturing every moment naturally as it unfolds, from getting ready in the morning to the final dance of the night. With minimal interference, it’s perfect for couples who want a real, unfiltered results. • Highlight reels Short, snappy and perfect for sharing, highlight reels condense your wedding into a three to five minute video that showcases the most memorable moments. From the vows and the confetti toss to the first dance, these reels are ideal for sending to loved ones or posting on social media while keeping your fulllength video private. • Live streaming For guests who can’t be there in person, whether due to distance, limited numbers, or other circumstances, live streaming lets them be a part of your day from anywhere in the world. With today’s technology, loved ones can watch you exchange vows, listen to speeches, and celebrate alongside you virtually. It’s a beautiful way to ensure no one misses out on the magic. SOUND MATTERS When it comes to wedding videography, sound is just as important as visuals. That’s why it’s essential to ask your videographer for examples of their past work to ensure they can deliver highquality audio as well as stunning visuals. We’re talking crystal-clear vows and speeches, captured using professional audio equipment so every heartfelt word is preserved. Beyond that, the ambient sounds, like the clinking of glasses, the laughter of guests and the music of your band will help transport you back to the moment every time you hit play. The soundtrack also plays a huge role in setting the tone of your wedding film. The right song can add an extra layer of emotion, perfectly complementing your story and enhancing the pacing of the video. Get this combination right and you’ll be left with a magical keepsake. WHAT TO CONSIDER Good communication with your videographer is key to ensuring your wedding day is captured beautifully. Share key time frames in advance, from the first look and ceremony to the speeches and first dance, so they can anticipate important moments and be in the perfect position to film them. Don’t forget to share any must-have shots. If possible, arrange a venue walkthrough with your videographer before the big day, especially if they haven’t filmed there before. This gives you both the chance to familiarise yourselves with the space, plan key shots, and assess lighting conditions for the best results. It’s also important to discuss turnaround times ahead of time. Find out when you can expect to receive teasers, highlight reels and your full-length film. Clarify what formats will be provided, whether that’s a USB, an online gallery, or both as well as the video resolution (4K vs HD) and whether raw footage is available if you’d like it. A little planning up front goes a long way in ensuring you receive a wedding film you’ll love and treasure forever. unsplash.com@jakobowens1 VIDEOGRAPHY 44
