Photographer Tim Payne shares smart ways to save on your wedding photos without compromising on quality Your wedding photos are lasting keepsakes, so it’s worth investing in a photographer you trust. But beautiful images don’t have to break the bank. We spoke with photographer Tim Payne about making your money go further. TIM’S TOP TIPS “When it comes to wedding photography, don’t be tempted by rock-bottom prices. If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. To keep costs down, consider going digital-only. You can order prints and albums later. Another option is booking your big day during off-peak times like midweek or winter weddings. “Be strategic about coverage. A halfday package could be all you need if you focus on the moments that matter most. Keep in mind that one photographer is usually plenty, unless you have multiple venues or a large guest list. “Ensure you meet your photographer before booking. Ask to see full galleries from recent weddings, not just a polished website portfolio. Check delivery timelines in advance to avoid waiting months for your photos to arrive. Ask about hybrid packages, as some suppliers offer short video highlights too. “Always clarify any additional costs, such as travel expenses, overtime, or late finishes, so there are no surprise costs. “On the day itself, share a short list of must-have shots to keep things focused and efficient. Plan group photos in advance to save valuable time. If you’re working with a tighter budget, consider photography students or assistants. Many are highly skilled and charge less while building their portfolios. Hi, I’m Tim — an award-winning Hertford wedding photographer blending ne art beauty with natural, relaxed storytelling with digital and lm images. CELEBRATIONS Countryside Nikki and Mark’s dreamy day was filled with twinkling lights, personal touches, and moments that felt straight out of a storybook Images courtesy of Cat Lane Weddings These lovebirds first connected on Bumble in 2019. After months of chatting, they finally met at a bar in Watford, and the rest was history! Four years later, Mark proposed at an alpaca farm, and the wedding planning adventure officially began. The couple had always dreamed of a barn wedding and spent countless weekends touring venues across Hertfordshire. Just as they were starting to lose hope, they stumbled across South Farm online. “I remember scrolling through the website and tearing up thinking, ‘this is the one,’” Nikki recalls. “We quickly booked a viewing and as we drove down the driveway, we both just knew South Farm was the one. It ticked every single box for us.” The pair loved the multiple wedding spaces, the on-site accommodation, the beautiful grounds, the flexible catering, and the warm, welcoming staff. “From our first visit to the big day itself, nothing ever felt like too much trouble, which we truly appreciated,” Nikki says. The venue’s resident pigs were a major hit, too. The couple hoped to snap a photo with them on the day, and they got their wish, piglets and all! To complement the rustic setting, Nikki and Mark chose a soft dusty blue colour palette with touches of pink. As big theatre lovers, they added a subtle theatrical twist to the decorations. They discovered a small business on Etsy that illustrated their favourite London theatres and shows, which were printed on cards and framed for each table. Since Mark works for Lindt, chocolate was a must! Guests were treated to Lindt favours and a large basket filled with Lindor balls. Unsurprisingly, not a single one remained by the end of the night! After a week of rain, the big day dawned with blue skies and fluffy clouds, instantly lifting everyone’s spirits. Nikki got ready at a nearby hotel before arriving at the venue for final touches, while Mark and his groomsmen got ready onsite. “The morning was full of laughter, happy tears, and excitement,” Nikki shares. “Our wedding planner, Evie, checked in on us several times and instantly put us at ease. She was just amazing!” The bride wore a stunning Morilee gown, the very first dress she tried on. Though hesitant to commit so quickly, she couldn’t stop thinking about it. “My mum and I visited multiple shops to try some dresses, but I kept going back to that first one,” Nikki recalls. “We booked a second appointment, and when I put it on again, both Mum and I burst into tears. Even Sarah, the owner of Ivory & Lace Bridal, teared up.” Nikki walked down the aisle with her dad to Elton John’s Can You Feel the Love Tonight, beautifully played by Harriet Flather Harpist. During the ceremony, the couple exchanged personal vows coincidentally, almost word-for-word! “We always say that seeing each other at the end of the aisle is a feeling we could never replicate,” Nikki adds. Guests enjoyed a drinks reception with delicious canapés, mini golf, and plenty of laughter. After attending South Farm’s tasting evening, the couple had full confidence in the food, and their guests agreed. The vegetarian and diet-friendly options were praised as “the best wedding food ever.” As music lovers, Nikki and Mark planned an action-packed evening of entertainment. Mark had previously seen Callum McMorran perform in Southport and said even before proposing that Callum had to play at their wedding. The lovebirds also hired No Limit Street Brass Band, a roaming brass ensemble that may not be traditional, but was a hit. A standout moment from the day was the three speeches from the father-of-the-bride, the groom, and the best man. “You never really know how people will feel standing up in public, or what they’ll say,” Nikki reflects. “But I couldn’t have felt prouder of all three of them. I’m so glad we had a videographer so we can look back and relive those moments.” REAL WEDDINGS 19

A love story in every detail From a surprise garden proposal to a cathedral ceremony and relaxed pub reception, Pete and Tash’s celebration was all heart, zero fuss Images courtesy of Tori Deslauriers Photography REAL WEDDINGS 25
Ever the romantic, Pete proposed to Tash in their garden in September 2023. He secretly involved the whole family in a heartfelt video proposal, capturing everyone’s reactions, all without Tash having a clue. The evening began with a decoy dinner at Tabure while her mum and sister set up the garden with a projector, candles, flowers and champagne. Even the neighbours helped, quietly filming from next door. Of course, Tash said “yes” and together, they planned the perfect wedding. SETTING THE SCENE The couple wanted to keep things low-cost without losing what mattered most. “We just wanted to marry each other with no fuss, no over-the-top plans, just our closest friends and family,” says the bride. “Something that was relaxed, low-key and fun, but still very meaningful.” They initially booked a registry office for the ceremony and The White Hart for the reception, falling for the pub’s charm after dining there one evening. “The staff were lovely, the space was the right size and the price for exclusive hire fit our 26
budget,” Tash says. They booked it on the spot. Being able to walk between venues was a big plus. “I wanted to avoid travel and thought the walk would make for great photos, and it did. Some of my favourites were taken along the way!” Later, the pair wondered if the nearby cathedral might actually be an option. “We always loved it but assumed it was out of reach. After a bit of digging, we realised it was more affordable than we thought – decision made.” The team was warm and helpful, making the whole process feel truly special. PERSONAL DETAILS Tash kept the colour scheme simple and costs low, focusing on great food, drinks and a brilliant band. She chose faux flowers to keep long after the day, along with her bouquet from Edison & James and the bridesmaids’ bouquets from Dunelm, which were later reused as centrepieces. All signage was handmade by Tash and this looked incredible on the day. Catering was provided by The White Hart, featuring a hog roast and laid-back canapés, such as pizza slices, chip bowls and scotch eggs – all their favorites. LOOKING THE PART Tash found her dress in David’s Bridal closing-down sale after an earlier appointment didn’t feel right. She and her mum spent the day trying on dresses until she found the one, later altered by a local tailor. “I’m not very girlie, so finding a dress was tough,” the bride says. “It had to suit both the cathedral and the pub!” She wore a long veil for the ceremony, removing it for the reception. “I’m not into heavy make-up, but the beauty team were brilliant – we were even ahead of schedule.” The groomsmen wore casual blue suits with green ties and Etsy buttonholes, while the bridesmaids wore dark green dresses from Next. “The colour suited the venue and looked great on everyone. It was the first dress they tried, and they all loved it!” MEMORABLE MOMENTS A few special moemnts stood out to the couple. Walking down the aisle and seeing each other for the first time was an unforgettable. Another stand out moment was when the band surprised the couple by remixing their first dance song into a different version, sending the dancefloor into wild celebration – and the hog roast reveal was a showstopping. The live band played throughout the day, from arrival drinks and canapés to the evening party. The bride comments, “Everyone loved them, and the dancefloor was never empty!” “The whole day felt truly special! The speeches were great, the band was amazing and the ceremony was to die for. The venue suited us perfectly. It was everything we wished for and more; we would do it all over again in a heartbeat!” REAL WEDDINGS 27

Once upon a wedding Kate and Ben’s magical day at Ashridge House was a storybook celebration of love, laughter and unforgettable details Images courtesy of Camilla Joy Photography Ben and Kate met in college while studying acting and quickly bonded, so much that tutors separated them because Ben was “distracting Kate.” Eight years later, on a romantic trip to the Maldives, Ben proposed during a surprise sunset beach dinner. The rest was history! A FAIRYTALE SETTING Since childhood, Kate dreamed of a fairytale wedding in a grand, castle-like setting. “After returning from the Maldives, I booked a viewing at Ashridge House,” she says. “After seeing how incredible it was, we confirmed the booking almost immediately!” The venue features Italian architecture, chandeliers, marble fireplaces, gold-leaf ceilings and 190 acres of gardens. “It had the wow factor,” Kate says, “and ticked all of the practical boxes with on-site catering, accommodation for all our guests, and easy transport links. The couple chose a soft, neutral colour scheme for the day with whites, creams and blush pink with gold accents to tie everything together effortlessly. DELICATE DETAILS From the start, Kate and Ben knew the venue’s iconic staircase would be a focal point. “It’s such a statement,” Kate says. “Our florist, Rebecca Masala, completely brought the vision to life, dressing the stairs with the most incredible blooms, scattered petals and candles. It looked breathtaking and created the perfect backdrop!” Kate carried a beautiful bouquet of white roses, while allwhite blossom trees served as centerpieces during the wedding breakfast, with a full-size blossom tree cleverly relocated to different rooms throughout the day, “It looked especially beautiful positioned in the Italian Loggia,” Kate adds. TO DINE FOR One of the standout elements of Ashridge House was the food. “It truly exceeded expectations,” the bride says. “We went with a classic, crowd-pleasing menu: roast chicken with seasonal vegetables followed by a rich chocolate ganache dessert.” Later in the evening came a fun, relaxed twist with British street food favourites like fish and chip cones, pie and mash, and mini burgers for a warm, informal vibe. And of course, we can’t forget the cake. Four stunning tiers of white chocolate, vanilla and lemon drizzle. “Absolutely delicious,” Kate says. “Huge thanks to Sam at The Little Berko Bakery!” LOOKING THE PART The bride chose a simple, elegant dress. “When I tried on Payton by Caroline Castigliano at The Wedding Shop in Colchester, it was hard to take off! It’s so cliché, but I knew it was the one. The team was so accommodating to my wishes. We added a bow, which made my inner Disney princess squeal with excitement.” Ben wore a classic tuxedo with a bow tie, a waistcoat, Barker shoes, a gold watch from his grandparents and cufflinks that belonged to Kate’s great-grandad. The bridesmaids looked beautiful in blush off-the-shoulder dresses by Dessy. TIME TO CELEBRATE To welcome guests, Kate and Ben had a live violinist who played beautiful music as guests arrived, throughout the ceremony and during the drinks reception. During this time, they also hired an incredible magician, Nick Crown, to keep everyone entertained. He had guests totally baffled! As evening fell, live sax by Dan Goode and a DJ kept guests dancing. “They were both out of this world,” Kate says. The night concluded with a spectacular fireworks display by Pains Fireworks, ending the day with a bang! A MOMENT TO REMEMBER The most meaningful moment for Kate was seeing her Nan quietly sitting in the front just after the couple exchanged vows. Kate had been told her nan couldn’t attend due to her health, which broke the bride’s heart. But with her carers’ help, her nan secretly made the hour-and-a-half journey to surprise them. “She stayed most of the day. Seeing her meant the world to me, and it is a memory we’ll treasure forever.” REAL WEDDINGS 31

She was trained at the Ash Kumar academy and had the honour of being an Ash Kumar artist for 8 years. Every design is bespoke to the bride. Indi always has a consultation with the bride in advance in which she discusses the brides likes and dislikes. She then sketches the design that is shown to the bride beforehand so that she gets an idea of how the design will be. Often the bride keeps the sketch as a little keepsake. ZODIAC BRIDES Could your star sign help you plan your dream wedding? Here we uncover your true desires ARIES (MARCH 21 – APRIL 19) Hollie says, “The Aries bride is bold, dynamic, and unapologetically herself. Expect dramatic entrances and daring choices. Her wedding style is often modern with a touch of drama… think sleek silhouettes, statement accessories, and pops of bold colours like red, her power hue.” Inbaal, explains that Aries brides are ‘sporty and quick’, and prefer dresses that move with them: “If it slows them down, they won’t consider it”. Confident and energetic, Aries brides thrive in functional fashion. They need breathable fabrics, strapless designs, and adjustable lace-up backs that flatter without restricting. Hollie Lewis, a wedding and events manager, has revealed what each zodiac bride is typically like; we’re talking dramatic Leos and playful Geminis – but what are they really looking for on their wedding day? Once you’ve got your theme, what wedding dresses best reflects your astro sign? Celebrity astrologer Inbaal Honigman, reveals what romantic Librans and magnetic Scorpios will be wearing down the aisle. CANCER (JUNE 21 – JULY 22) Hollie says, “the Cancer bride is romantic, nostalgic, and deeply sentimental. Her wedding is an emotional experience, centred around family, tradition, and heartfelt moments. Their weddings feature soft lighting, vintageinspired décor, and a ceremony filled with meaningful touches like handwritten vows or heirloom pieces. Colours like ivory, silver, and moonlight blue appeal to her.” Inbaal adds, “sensitive and considerate, those born under the sign of the crab will express their emotions through soft bluish hues, ribbons, and lace (perfectly captures Cancerian romance).” Drop-waists and tulle skirts embody their dreamy princess-vibe. TAURUS (APRIL 20 – MAY 20) “The Taurus bride gravitates towards classic styles, natural beauty, and luxurious details. Think flowing fabrics with flawless textures, perhaps adorned with delicate floral embellishments. Her colour palette often leans towards earthy tones, along with soft pastels that reflect a connection to nature. Keep an eye out for gentle pink notes,” shares Hollie. Inbaal adds, “ruled by Venus, planet of love and beauty, those born under the sign of the bull love pretty things; the more beautiful, the better! Wearing something exquisitely crafted is a full-body thrill – they seek crystal-studded details, pearls, and rich plissé textures. Comfort is optional, luxury is non-negotiable!” GEMINI (MAY 21 – JUNE 20) “The Gemini bride is playful, curious, and bursting with charm. She’s the social butterfly of the zodiacs, so expect a celebration that’s fun, full of surprises, and keeps guests talking. Her wedding might include a variety of experiences – perhaps interactive food stations, photo booths, or quirky entertainment. She favours bright, vibrant colours like yellow or lavender, and her look might include dual elements – a convertible dress, or an outfit change from ceremony to reception,” explains Hollie. “Fun-loving and playful, those born under the sign of the twins prefer shorter, lighter styles that don’t get in the way of the party,” shares Inbaal. Gemini’s dual nature suits convertible designs and shimmering textures that move with them, such as detachable trains or overskirts. LEO (JULY 23 – AUGUST 22) “The Leo bride is all about grandeur, glamour, and being centre stage… and rightly so! She brings the drama in the best way, with a lavish celebration that dazzles from start to finish. They adore gold accents, luxurious fabrics, and a show-stopping gown,” comments Hollie. Inbaal says, “proud and bold, those born under the sign of the lion naturally shine brightest in gold tones, shimmering fabrics, and designs that reveal a hint of skin.” To capture true Leo energy, opt for corsets with exposed boning, striking mermaid silhouettes, and sharp cat-eye necklines that demand attention. Sparkling embellishments that catch the light with every confident move are essential, especially in rich golden hues. SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23 – NOVEMBER 21) Hollie says, “as a Scorpio myself, me and my fellow Scorpio brides are magnetic, mysterious, and intensely passionate. Our wedding would be deeply emotional and personal, with a sultry, moody vibe that captivates. You would see us lean into rich colours – burgundy, black, deep plum, and dramatic details like candlelight, velvet textures, and sensual scents” Inbaal adds to this, “to capture Scorpio’s magnetic energy, you’ll need rich textures and dramatic silhouettes, high-neck or halter designs with daring cutouts that balance mystery and elegance. Asymmetrical hemlines add intrigue by revealing and concealing in equal measure. VIRGO (AUGUST 23 – SEPTEMBER 22) Hollie says, “the Virgo bride is sophisticated, detail-oriented, and effortlessly elegant. She plans every element of her wedding with precision and care, ensuring the event runs seamlessly. Her style leans minimalist with a touch of vintage or natural chic. Think crisp whites, muted greens, and gentle neutrals. She favours meaningful over flashy, with sustainable choices and intentional design”. Inbaal adds, “meticulous and neat, those born under the sign of the virgin enjoy looking the part. If they’re stepping into the big day as the bride, they’d like their whole look to express that.” Virgos favour timeless elegance, we’re talking Victorian-inspired basque waists paired with symmetrical A-line skirts for a clean, classic silhouette. Lace toppers add a whimsical, personal touch without sacrificing structure. For warmer weather, lighter fabrics like precision-cut organza keep the look polished and comfortable. LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 23 – OCTOBER 22) “The Libra bride is the ultimate romantic. Graceful, balanced, and with an innate sense of style. Her wedding is a celebration of beauty and love, often with ethereal décor and a dreamy, harmonious vibe. Blush tones, soft blues, and elegant neutrals highlight their nuptials,” comments Hollie. Libras draw inspiration from vintage wedding photos and timeless journals, blending classic charm with modern style. A flowing ball gown perfectly captures their refined taste says Inbaal. Vintage-inspired touches like jewelled hairpins or a delicate tiara add just the right amount of sparkle. shutterstock.com/g/canonguy jonathanborba.46graus.com shutterstock.com/g/Irina+Alexandrovna FASHION 37
