Your Gloucestershire and Wiltshire Wedding- April/May (Issue 32)

THE BISHOP’S PALACE, SALISBURY, WILTSHIRE The Bishop’s Palace is discreetly located within Salisbury’s historic Cathedral Close. It boasts 27 acres of private grounds including a lake, a conservation area and a large lawn space suitable for a marquee as well as plenty of private parking. The site is situated southeast of Salisbury Cathedral and its majestic Spire can be seen from almost everywhere in the grounds. With so many different vistas to choose from, the Bishop’s Palace is perfectly placed for stunning photographs. This venue boasts quintessential, ancient English architecture with historic stone walls, intricate oak staircases, secret passages and an original bell tower. Internal highlights include the Undercroft, a mediaeval dining room with a vaulted stone roof and the Chapel with its organ and ancient bell tower. The Bishop’s Palace is available for wedding receptions only that take place inside The Bishop’s Drawing Room that has a capacity for up to 100 guests seated or standing. This stunning period space is adorned with paintings of former Bishops of Salisbury gathered together under an elaborate, stucco-decorated ceiling. Tall, arched windows flood the room with natural light and allow for views of the stunning grounds. The Undercroft is an alternative option seating up to 80 loved ones or up to 120 people standing and marquees can be erected in the stunning grounds to the rear of the Bishop’s Palace. FONTHILL ESTATE, FONTHILL BISHOP, WILTSHIRE At this venue, couples can personalise the space, celebrate outside and party into the night under the stars. The Fonthill Estate spans more than 9,000 acres and is nestled in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Running through the park is Fonthill Lake which is more than a mile long and a beauty spot and haven for wildlife. The Beckford Arch at the northern end provides a wonderful photographic backdrop. There are three venues for weddings that can be hired independently or together - Bake Barn, Quarry Wood and Deer Park Barn, each offering something different from a lakeside ceremony, a woodland wedding or a party in a barn. Surrounded by rolling hills and uninterrupted views of the countryside, Bake Barn sits on the edge of Great Ridge in the Wiltshire Downs. It’s a beautifully renovated rustic-inspired shooting lodge situated just north of the A303 located up a private track and set within its own walled perimeter. Quarry Wood is located in a clearing in the woods, directly overlooking Fonthill lake. Couples can marry here and move on to Bake Barn for a dinner dance, or erect a marquee and dine al fresco until 11.00pm. Nestled beside the lake is the Deer Park Barn, a quaint stone barn ideal for more intimate and remote celebrations. Ceremony licence?
