wedding Crockwell Farm was the perfect setting for Tom and Meg’s wedding Images courtesy of Ellie Mac Photography THE DREAM 24

Tom and Meg first met through mutual friends and kept bumping into each other – it really was fate. After talking more often, the pair discovered a spark and from there, slowly fell in love. Originally, Tom planned to propose on holiday in Madeira. However, the flight was cancelled last minute due to bad weather and the lovebirds ending up booking Center Parcs last minute. Here Tom plucked up the courage and popped the question in their cabin. SETTING THE SCENE The date was set for December 4th 2021, and the lovebirds wanted to create a memorable day for their loved ones to enjoy. Meg says, “We wanted everyone to have a great time, especially after being in and out of lockdown for the previous 18 months due to Covid-19. We also wanted to ensure that our guests felt safe and made some amendments to our day to ensure even people who were classed as vulnerable could attend.” When it came to finding the perfect backdrop to their day, the couple fell in love with the spaces at Crockwell Farm. The property fitted into their vision and the scenery was a big selling point. The bride stayed onsite the night before the wedding with her mum and maid-of-honour. Fuschia Pinks create stunning arrangements for the day, the company did an amazing job and turned the couple’s vision into a reality. The bride says, “Jo pretty much had free rein of our venue with just our navy and blush colour theme in mind and made the spaces even more beautiful.” Each setting had place names designed with blue flowers to help guests find their seats. Waiting for each person was a blue bag filled with different assorted chocolates. For that extra personal touch, the couple added clay love hearts engraved with T & M. As the venue was already stunning and full of character, the couple only needed to add a few personal touches. They had a red post box for cards and a MR and MRS light up sign that was placed on the edge of the dancefloor. Homemade by Victoria created a beautiful three-tiered cake for the couple with vanilla, caramel and lemon curd flavours – it was a big hit with guests. Meg comments, “Victoria used plain white icing and our florist decorated the bake with fresh flowers that matched the rest of the venue styling – the cake really was delicious!” LOOKING THE PART When it came to creating her dream look, the bride-to-me visited Gabriella Bridal. Meg says, “The team ensured that I got the dress of my dreams; although there were some tears and a little stress before our big day, I could not have asked for a more beautiful dress.” She continues, “I completely fell in love with my final look – it was the prettiest I’d ever felt. Tom and his groomsmen all wore three-piece suits from Warwicks, and they all wore blush ties and pocket squares. The bridesmaids looked beautiful in navy dresses and personalised blush shawls gifted by the bride. TIME TO CELEBRATE Live music after the ceremony was provided by Joe Church, and he completed a 90-minute set after the ceremony straight through to the wedding breakfast. Guests loved the acoustic set, and the pair got so many compliments about the performer – the children loved him too. In the evening, Joe performed in a band called WHITEROOM and they played two sets. Meg says, “We’d highly recommend the company; REAL WEDDINGS 25

they really got the evening reception started. Joe was very helpful and moved our booking due to delays caused by Covid-19.” Between sets, the couple had a DJ perform to keep the party going. MEMORABLE MOMENTS Meg’s brother gave a surprise speech, which was a lovely moment that meant a lot to the couple. All the speeches were great and full of love. Many suppliers worked hard to ensure the couple had the best possible day. The bride says, “Our photographer Ellie went above and beyond throughout the whole experience. She always kept the communication open throughout the lockdowns, which automatically made us feel at ease – nothing was too much trouble for her. The photos we got were beyond perfect, and we could not ask for anything better. We’ve since organised a family shoot with Ellie later in the year with some new additions to the family.” She continues, “The staff at Crockwell Farm were also amazing, and I can’t thank them enough! The whole day ran perfectly thanks to the owner, the wedding planner and the bar staff who were so friendly and kind.” Throughout the planning experience, the bride’s mum, auntie and cousin really helped the pair. The bride says, “They helped me with a lot of the finer details and without them, many things wouldn’t have been the same.” HONEYMOON After the perfect day, the couple travelled to Lanzarote for a week with their three-year-old daughter and had a fantastic time. Meg says, “It was a wedding gift from Tom’s auntie, and we couldn’t have felt more grateful after a very stressful run-up to the wedding. We enjoyed the all-inclusive food, pools and mini discos!” 26

Always and forever Check out Simon and Sam’s stunning wedding, which featured a lavender and white colour scheme Images courtesy of The Jasmine Cottage Studio Simon and Sam first met at work and gradually became part of the same friendship group. After spending more time together, the pair started to fall in love and became a couple. On the pair’s 10th anniversary, Simon proposed by a river in York. He says, “It was a slight surprise for Sam because we’d already been together so long – she was wondering if I was ever going to pop the question!” The pair set the day for August 26th 2021, and created a memorable wedding to celebrate their love. Here Simon shares details about their special day... REAL WEDDINGS 31

Our coordinator, Kirsty, was amazing at ensuring our day ran smoothly after the bouquet incident. We decided against a head table as we didn’t want to feel separate from everybody else. We kept our centrepieces minimal with candles and wreaths made by Greenfingers Florists. The bridal bouquet featured white and lavender ro ses as well as various flowers. Sam says, “I was slightly nervous in the morning, but more excited once we were all ready to go. The morning started a bit stressful trying to get everyone ready and as a result, I forgot the bridesmaids’ bouquets! The rolling hills of the Amber Valley created the perfect backdrop to our wedding at Shottle Hall. The venue had a selection of wedding spaces to pick from and on-site accommodation. We originally hadn’t planned to get married outside until the last minute, the scenery behind us as we exchanged vows was amazing. 32

Sam’s grandad did a wonderful speech that had everyone in tears. To make the bridesmaids feel comfortable, we allo wed them to pick their own dress. Sam says, “I picked a beautiful dress with my mum; I was glad she at least got to see the gown on me.” Me and the groomsmen all wore grey suits with la vender ties, but I wore a larger buttonhole to differentiate myself. We had Macmillan Cancer Support badges for our favours. Giving back to a vital charity meant a lot to us as Sam’s mum passed away two months before the wedding from cancer. Shottle Hall’s menu was excellent! We settled on one meat and one vegetarian option – both were equally as appetising. REAL WEDDINGS 33

the blue Martin and Christine’s wedding was a winter wonderland dream Images courtesy of Pink Photographics OUT OF Martin and Christine met in their local Co-op, which was a surprise for them both. “It just goes to show that these things can happen when you least expect them!” shares Martin. He adds, “There was an immediate mutual connection between us both. After chatting, I remember walking back to my car and thinking ‘wow, now that was a thunderbolt’.” Christine comments, “Straight away I loved Martin’s smile and his friendly sense of humour – I just knew that I wanted to be with him.” The proposal for Martin didn’t quite go as expected. He explains, “I managed the impossible in getting the proposal completely right and completely wrong at the same time by not sticking to my original plan! With Covid-19 still around, I was at home with Christine while she was on a video call with her work friends. Although I’d anticipated proposing over dinner in the time honoured manner, but in a moment of mischief I thought it would be a great time to do the deed. The moment was priceless and fortunately for me, she said yes!” Christine adds, “The timing was a surprise and it was a lovely fun moment – it was always going to be a ‘yes’. The big date was set, 4th December 2021, with The Petwood Hotel setting the scene. Here, we find out more about their wedding day... 37 REAL WEDDINGS

SETTING THE SCENE Wanting to create the ultimate winter wedding, the Petwood Hotel was always the first choice for the couple. “Although we did look at other venues, they weren’t ultimately able to offer what we wanted,” shares Christine. “We wanted a property with character that would enable us to have our whole day there and accommodate our guests overnight. The Petwood Hotel is a lovely old building that works well at Christmas due to its wood panelling, Christmas trees in the entrances and its open fires.” The hotel’s lovely gardens set the scene nicely as guests arrived, and The Woodland Suite allowed Martin and Christine to contain their celebrations within their own wing with a private entrance, function rooms and a private bar. All the wider facilities of the hotel were also available and the well-appointed rooms allowed the bride to stay over the night prior, to both ease preparations on the morning of the wedding and to accommodate the guests that had travelled to share their special day. For the finer details on the day, everything matched the couple’s modern winter theme – there was no red, gold or poinsettia in sight! The florist used a pastel colour palette with soft pink, ivory and purple flowers accented by eucalyptus to give a winter-frosted appearance to the bouquets and table centrepieces. This colourway also matched the decoration on the wedding cake, invitations and also the attire worn by the groom, best man and the three ushers – Christine’s three sons, William, Matthew and David. The three-tier wedding cake, from Rosie’s Cakes and Bakes, was a light sponge with buttercream. Salted caramel was used for the top tier, with the lower two tiers being both Victoria sponge. The bake was decorated with fresh flowers on the day. The Petwood Hotel gave the couple a few different choices when it came to styling the function rooms. They picked the option of softly backlit sheer curtains and large, winter-themed candle lanterns to complement the swags and bows in the ceremony area. LOOKING THE PART The bride wanted something elegant and picked Poppy by Phase Eight, which had lace detailing on the back and a small train. She says, “I really couldn’t have been happier with the dress and I’ve had lovely compliments about it! I wore silver sandals from Cherries of Boston to pair with my dress – they really were so comfortable all day.” Martin decided on a three-piece blue/grey suit from Coneys of Boston, which differed from the best men as the groom wanted to standout. They all wore ties in pale colours that coordinated with the flowers and theme. The groom says, “Christine’s three sons all bought their suits and shoes from Cavani at Coneys in Lincoln and I have to say, the team was brilliant with them. The staff was absolutely spot on with the recommendations, had good humour and knew just how to make sure that all three of them were happy with their look.” The three bridesmaids Stacey, Ellie and Angie all wore pale salmon-pink dresses by Coast, which matched the lace details on the bride’s dress. 38
