Your East Midlands Wedding - December 2021/January 2022 (Issue 47)

Q&A Fashion and beauty Our experts give their advice to help you look your big-day best BOLDLY BEAUTIFUL We’re having a black colour scheme at our wedding, which I’d like to incorporate into my make-up without it looking too heavy. How can I achieve this? Black can be a controversial shade when it comes to wedding make-up, as most people don’t consider it a ‘bridal make-up tone’ necessarily. We often think of soft-natural tones or pink and peach hues instead, which have been very popular this year. I love nothing more than adding a fine-black eyeliner and lashings of black mascara to make eyes pop on camera. Using the shade black can create a soft and romantic look, but the products need to be placed delicately and in the right places. You can add a touch of black eyeshadow to the outer corners of the eyes or the bottom waterline to give a more smokey look. Team this up with a flawless base, a rose blusher and a nude-toned lipstick for the ultimate look. Why not consider wearing a black lipstick for something a bit different and very quirky too? There has been a rise in casual garden-themed weddings after the last lockdown, which works well with boho-styled looks. Sunflowers always look amazing in this setting, and a relaxed hairpiece that includes a pendant for the forehead would bring some sparkle to the day while reflecting sunlight beautifully. A nice choker or beaded sunflower earrings, necklace or bracelet would finish off the look perfectly. Incorporating flowers in your hair is also popular, either through an abstract hairband or real flowers. Belts ranging from plain to sparkly are back on-trend and remember that this wedding theme is all about what you want to wear on the special day, not what others expect. With more formal weddings taking place with pale-blue hues and Bridgerton-influenced styling, empire-line dresses and gloves will be very popular. Keep the accessories sophisticated with pearl-drop earrings and a delicate bracelet, which are both timeless. Formal-style weddings have a relaxed atmosphere, with many using delicate details and opting for an afternoon tea to add to the luxurious feel of the day.
