As summer gives way to autumn, there’s something wonderfully romantic about the arrival of October and November. The evenings draw in, the colours around us become richer and, for weddings, it’s the perfect season for candlelight, cosy celebrations and beautiful golden photographs. In this issue, we’re celebrating the wonderful variety of weddings and the details that make each couple’s day completely unique. We begin with some of our favourite features – real reader weddings. There’s nothing quite like seeing how other couples have brought their ideas to life, from the venue and flowers to the personal touches that make their celebration their own. Our reader weddings are full of inspiration, gorgeous details and, most importantly, wonderful love stories – take a look now! We’re also putting the spotlight on wedding photography. Long after the confetti has settled and the last dance has happened, your photographs will be there to take you right back to the emotions of the day. From the big moments to the little ones you didn’t even realise had been captured, finding the right photographer is so important. Our venue styling feature looks at how the right details can transform a space. Beautiful florals, atmospheric lighting, statement tablescapes and thoughtful finishing touches can create a setting that feels unmistakably yours – and autumn provides the perfect opportunity to embrace rich colours, texture and warmth. And if traditional white or ivory isn’t quite your style, you’ll love our feature on coloured wedding dresses. From soft blush and delicate pastels to bold, statement shades, coloured gowns are a beautiful way to bring personality to your bridal look. After all, there really are no rules when it comes to finding the one. So, settle down with a cuppa and enjoy this issue. We hope our real weddings inspire you, our features spark some new ideas and you find plenty to add to your wedding wishlist and moodboard. Hello, lovely readers! New wellbeing concept comes to Suffolk After 25 years working in some of the world’s most prestigious spas, a Suffolk spa director has launched a wellbeing concept of her own. Alexandra Hurt, who spent more than a decade as spa director at Weavers’ House Spa at The Swan at Lavenham Hotel & Spa, officially opened Alex Feels in Kersey in July. Her career began aboard five-star cruise ships before taking her to Dubai, where she spent a decade working in the luxury wellness industry as director of group operations for SensAsia Urban Spas, overseeing the opening and operation of several Dubai locations. Now, Alexandra has combined her extensive spa experience with her passion for acupuncture to create a private, one-to-one studio designed around slowing down and taking time for yourself. Auricular acupuncture is at the heart of the experience, but sessions are deliberately much more than a conventional treatment. A first appointment begins with a complimentary discovery call, followed by a two-and-a-halfhour visit incorporating breathwork, Qigong and acupuncture, alongside restorative touches such as aromatherapy, a warm foot cleanse and head and scalp massage. Clients are welcomed with a ginger shot and can choose an essential oil for their treatment before having time to relax afterwards with fresh ginger tea and a macaroon. “It’s deliberately unrushed,” says Alexandra. “I wanted to create somewhere people could have uninterrupted time to be looked after, listened to and allowed to exhale.” The private studio overlooking the Suffolk countryside, boasts a terrace for guests to enjoy the peaceful setting. Initial appointments cost £140, including the complimentary discovery call, with follow-up sessions priced at £120. Visit fudgekitchen.co.uk WHY A WEDDING REHEARSAL IS THE SECRET TO A STRESS-FREE CEREMONY Heather Bartsch of Your Choice Ceremonies on why a wedding rehearsal is one of the best ways to ensure your ceremony feels relaxed, joyful and completely natural. “As an independent celebrant, I include a rehearsal with every wedding because I want you to arrive feeling confident, excited and ready to enjoy every magical moment. “Even if you’ve attended plenty of weddings, standing at the front surrounded by the people you love is a very different experience. A rehearsal removes uncertainty; you’ll know where to walk, where to stand and what happens next, allowing you to focus on each other rather than the logistics. “It’s also the perfect opportunity to make any last-minute adjustments. Whether a family member can no longer attend, the wedding party has changed or you’ve decided to include a special personal element, we can make sure everything flows smoothly and avoid unnecessary stress on the day. “The details matter too. From nervous ring bearers to first-time readers, everyone benefits from knowing what’s expected and feeling prepared. Best of all, rehearsals can be great fun. Follow yours with a family meal, raise a glass together or simply enjoy spending time with your nearest and dearest before the big day. It often becomes a memorable part of the celebrations in its own right. “A rehearsal is more than a practice run, it’s peace of mind and the perfect start to your wedding celebrations, helping to create a ceremony that feels relaxed, personal and uniquely yours – one you’ll remember forever.” Visit yourchoiceceremonies.co.uk AUTUMN ESCAPE AT THE BILDESTON CROWN Fancy a countryside getaway without the hefty price tag? FRIENDSHIP TO FOREVER From medical school to Mr & Mrs: Jess and Marcus’ romantic Norwich wedding was picture-perfect Images courtesy of Jono Neill - JSN Photography Jess and Marcus first met on their very first day of medical school at the University of East Anglia in 2016, when they were placed in the same small case-based learning group of just 10 students. They quickly discovered they had something else in common – they had both attended the same high school, although their four-year age gap meant they had never actually crossed paths. Meeting every week throughout their first year, the pair quickly became close friends before eventually becoming housemates – five years into their friendship they began dating. Marcus proposed in May 2025 while the couple were enjoying a holiday in San Diego. After a beautiful coastal walk from La Jolla to Sunset Cliffs Natural Park, Marcus waited until they reached the end of the route before getting down on one knee. Although Jess and Marcus were living in London while planning their wedding, there was never any doubt that they wanted to return to Norwich – the city where they had first met. They chose St Peter Mancroft Church in the heart of the city for their ceremony. Over the year leading up to the wedding, the couple enjoyed becoming part of the church community and were made to feel incredibly welcome. “It felt like the perfect place to exchange our vows.” For the reception, they chose The Assembly House, a magnificent Georgian house in the city centre. From their first visit, the team impressed them with their warmth, professionalism and attention to detail. “We knew we’d be in safe hands there!” The couple chose a romantic colour palette of blush pink, dark olive green, soft pinks and touches of yellow. The bridesmaids wore light blush-pink satin dresses, while Marcus and his groomsmen wore dark olive-green suits, creating a sophisticated contrast. Flowers by Lauren brought the palette together beautifully, combining soft and brighter pink blooms with hints of yellow. She created elegant bouquets, buttonholes and bud vases that carried the colour scheme throughout the day. The Music Room at The Assembly House already provided a beautiful backdrop, so Jess and Marcus kept the décor understated while adding plenty of personal touches. They created the rest of the styling themselves, with tables featuring delicate bud vases, candlesticks and tapered candles. Framed photographs from their travels added a personal element, while matching menus and name cards completed the look. Jess wore the Renzo Mikado gown from Wed2B. Interestingly, she had originally planned to wear a high-street dress she had bought online and hadn’t intended to go wedding dress shopping. Then, just two months before, she changed her mind. “I decided I wanted to experience trying on wedding dresses after all, and I’m so glad I did.” Renzo was the very first dress Jess tried on that day. Although she went on to try several others, she kept returning to her first choice. “It felt comfortable, elegant and like me. Looking back, I’m so pleased I changed my mind and allowed myself the full bridal experience, which my mum and I enjoyed together.” Marcus wore a dark green suit from Slaters, complemented by a floral tie and light blush-pink pocket square. The groomsmen also wore dark green Slaters suits, with blush-pink ties and matching pocket squares to coordinate with Marcus and the bridesmaids. The bridesmaids wore light blush-pink satin dresses from Oasis via Debenhams online, perfectly complementing the flowers. Music was one of the couple’s biggest priorities when planning their wedding, and they were happy to dedicate a significant part of their budget to it. The ceremony featured the church choir singing alongside the hymns, as well as beautiful choral pieces – the organist and church bells adding to the atmosphere. During the drinks reception, acoustic duo Flynn & Jan performed vocals and guitar, providing a relaxed soundtrack while guests mingled. The music continued into the wedding breakfast, where Kavolini string quartet performed pop songs with a Bridgertoninspired feel. “This seemed to be a huge highlight for the guests and brought a lovely atmosphere.” In the evening, a DJ from Epic Events took over and kept the celebrations going, with a packed dancefloor throughout the night. For Jess and Marcus, one of the most memorable moments came immediately after the ceremony. As they left St Peter Mancroft Church, the bells were ringing and their family and friends showered them with confetti. Outside on Millennium Plain, members of the public had gathered and joined in the celebrations, clapping and cheering as the newlyweds emerged. “It felt like a really special moment and stands out for us.” REAL WEDDINGS 23

Monochrome MATRIMONY A romantic New York proposal, a timeless black-and-white setting and an adorable aisle dash made Chantelle and Oli’s wedding day one to remember Images courtesy of Discovery Photo & Videography REAL WEDDINGS 29

Chantelle and Oli first connected through the dating website Plenty of Fish, beginning their online conversations in September 2019 before making things official in January 2020. Three years later, Oli whisked Chantelle away to New York to celebrate her 30th birthday. On 1st May 2023, during their trip, he had a very special surprise planned. Knowing that Chantelle wouldn’t enjoy a grand proposal in front of a crowd, Oli found a quiet, secluded spot among the woodland behind the lake in Central Park. It was the perfect setting to get down on one knee and ask the question. The intimate moment did, however, gain a small audience. A Chinese family happened to witness the proposal and spontaneously applauded the newly engaged couple – adding an unexpected but memorable touch to the occasion. After viewing four different venues, Chantelle and Oli still hadn’t found somewhere that ticked all their boxes. That changed when they discovered Swynford Manor. “We loved the classic black and white look. The venue had so much space and three different places we could get married. We fell in love with the white pavilion on the grounds too.” The venue’s elegant character and flexibility made it the perfect choice for their day, providing plenty of space for both the ceremony and celebrations. Chantelle and Oli were drawn to a classic black and white aesthetic, complemented by soft dusty blue accents. Their styling inspiration came after attending a wedding day at Newmarket, where they discovered their decorators, Easy and Elegant. A beautiful dusty blue display immediately caught their attention, and after exploring the available options, they booked the team straight away. Their stylists created all the venue styling, including the tables, floral displays on the stairs and chairs, as well as an evening photobooth. The couple wanted to keep the overall look simple and elegant, avoiding anything too elaborate or overcrowded. Their tables were deliberately kept minimal, the designs were 30

understated but beautiful. The stationery was another personal touch. Chantelle’s mum, Karen, designed and created all the invitations and stationery herself, using her Cricut machine to bring the designs to life. Chantelle found her wedding dress at Pete’s Bridal Warehouse in Soham, and it was the only bridal shop she visited. She tried on nine dresses before finding the one. “The other eight had pieces missing, whereas the ninth just felt right. It ticked all the boxes and made me feel beautiful.” The moment was emotional for her family too, with her sisters even shedding a tear when they saw her in the gown. Oli hired his suit from Abigail’s Collection & The Groom’s Room in Colchester, with his groomsmen and father also choosing their suits from the same store for a coordinated look. The bridesmaids wore dresses from Ever-Pretty, completing the classic wedding palette. Guests began arriving at Swynford Manor from 1pm ahead of the 2pm ceremony. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed canapés and drinks while the newlyweds disappeared for photographs. It gave everyone the chance to relax, socialise and enjoy the beautiful surroundings before the wedding breakfast began. The room soon became a party space complete with DJ, dancefloor and photobooth, followed by evening food to keep everyone fuelled for the celebrations. For Chantelle and Oli, their most memorable moment wasn’t something they had planned at all. Having just signed the register and been announced as husband and wife, their young daughter suddenly ran down the aisle ahead of them. Some guests spontaneously threw confetti as she made her way through the room. “It was a beautiful, unplanned moment that we could never have relived without Ian capturing that moment.” It was the kind of fleeting family moment that perfectly summed up their wedding day – personal, joyful and completely their own. For couples preparing to tie the knot, Chantelle and Oli’s advice is to stay calm, particularly on the morning of the wedding. “Any worries or stress will ruin your morning. Remember, what will be will be.” They also recommend being prepared for the unexpected – especially when there is a two-yearold involved! “Everything happens for a reason and always expect the unexpected from your twoyear-old.” REAL WEDDINGS 31

The Instagram effect ON WEDDING VENUES How social media is reshaping the industry In an era where a single photograph can reach millions of viewers within hours, wedding venues are experiencing a seismic shift in how they attract couples and showcase their spaces. Instagram has evolved from a simple photo-sharing app into the most powerful marketing tool the wedding industry has ever seen and it’s fundamentally changing what couples look for in a venue. We spoke with Nick from Country House Weddings (countryhouseweddings. co.uk) to explore how social media, particularly Instagram and TikTok is reshaping venue selection, design, and the entire wedding experience. THE RISE OF INSTAGRAM-WORTHY VENUES “Ten years ago, couples primarily chose venues based on capacity, location, and price,” explains Nick “Today, the first question whether said or not is really: ‘How Instagram-worthy is it?’. The visual appeal of a space has become just as important, and sometimes more important than traditional practical considerations.” This shift reflects a broader change in how couples approach their weddings. The ceremony and reception are no longer private family affairs but shareable content that will be viewed, liked, and commented on by hundreds to thousands of people. As a result, venues with distinctive architectural features, dramatic backdrops, and photogenic details have seen demand skyrocket. “Country houses, venues with statement staircases, and spaces with abundant natural light are particularly popular,” Nick notes. “These environments photograph beautifully and provide those ‘wow’ moments that translate perfectly to social media, without overwhelming the couple.” HOW VENUES ARE ADAPTING TO INSTAGRAM CULTURE Smart venue owners are responding to this Instagram-driven demand by strategically enhancing their spaces with social media in mind. According to Nick, this goes far beyond simply having pretty spaces. “To accommodate, many spaces have invested in designated ‘photo opportunities’ throughout the properties,” he explains. “This might be a swing hanging from an ancient oak tree or a flower wall that’s refreshed seasonally. These aren’t just decorative, rather they’re carefully designed Instagram moments that if well done, look completely natural and spontaneous.” THE POWER OF USER-GENERATED CONTENT Perhaps the most significant impact of Images sourced from unsplash.com 40
