Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - July/August 2022 (Issue 38)

FUN FAVOURS How can we pick wedding favours that will suit our theme and our guests? Meet the experts: Simon Daukes is the owner of Arches Beach Weddings based on Newberry Beach in Combe Martin, Devon. It’s a one-of-a-kind, ceremony-only, DIY beach wedding venue. The Daukes family also own The Ash Barton Estate in Braunton, a wedding venue with a manor house and extensive grounds (turn to page 55 to read more). Simon says: Wedding favours are traditionally small presents that the couple gift their guests as a thank you for attending the wedding. These special souvenirs need to be all-inclusive for couples, singles and children and typically include a thank you card, gift certificates, sweets or flowers but you can be as creative as you wish. Why not consider little pouches of candy for the kids or personalised favours that guests will love to use at home? Make sure your chosen favours fit in with the colour theme of your wedding and decide whether you want them to be edible or decorative. Would you like to give seasonal favours, for example sunscreen or flip-flops for a beach wedding or hand-picked flowers with a printed selfie and hand-written message for a country affair? Other quirky ideas include playing cards, glass charms, fridge magnets and coasters. Set a realistic budget - you don’t need to spend a lot of money to make your guests happy with DIY options such as hand-painted personalised coffee cups or mugs, hand-crafted scented soaps, mini plants and homemade pickle or jam. On an edible note, other tasty treats include cute cookies, spices and cocktail-making kits. Seasonal favours can include mince pies for a winter wedding or beach balls for a summer soiree!.
