Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - July/August 2022 (Issue 38)

 Sustainable wedding ideas WHAT’S NEW? Historic Cornish property the Old Ferry Inn has unveiled an extensive refurbishment. The established pub with rooms is located on the edge of the River Fowey in the village of Bodinnick, overlooking Fowey Harbour and across to the English Channel. The renovations include the addition of an artisan shop selling products made on the premises including loaves of bread, and other locally made provisions. An on-site micro-distillery is located at the rear of the shop which produces vodka, gin, rum and chilli tequila. A hot tub on the terrace is an innovative and fun new installation and guests can watch the sunset over Fowey Harbour with a cocktail in hand. The 11 contemporary light and airy bedrooms are home to comfortable beds, goose feather and down duvets, pillows, and en suite bathrooms that are well-stocked with supplies of Bramley luxury toiletries. A wicker basket in each room provides guests with locally made biscuits and salted caramel fudge that’s made on the premises along with homemade hot chocolate, tea, coffee and a variety of milk (including plant-based soy, almond, and oat options). There are also Cornish dog treats for any canine guests along with Omlet dog beds in the pet-friendly rooms. Visitors’ dogs and pets are welcome throughout the historic former coaching inn and the resident Newfoundland named Archie is always delighted to make any new dog friend feel right at home! The dining room, with its panoramic harbour views, provides excellent food and great service. Dishes are created from the finest local produce sourced within a 20-mile radius, supporting Cornish fishermen and farmers. Ingredients such as the smoked salmon are cured and smoked on-site and fish is delivered straight to the kitchen team from Cornish day boats in the harbour. Organic vegetables are fresh from nearby fields and highlights on the Sunday lunch menu include slow-roasted pork, lamb and beef, There’s also an all-day grazing menu available at the bar featuring house-baked bread and smoked olives plus Old Ferry Hogs sausage rolls. Downstairs is the comfortable bar area with its log-burning stove and original features, offering a selection of Cornish real ales and ciders. It has been designed like a large sitting room combining classic comfort with modern styling.
