Your Devon and Cornwall Wedding - January/February 2022 (Issue 35)

VINTAGE & BLOOM Angela James is the owner of Vintage & Bloom, a bespoke florist based in Falmouth, Cornwall. She tells us, “In 2022, we will see the ongoing movement towards floristry being more sustainable and environmentally friendly with couples shopping locally where possible. Customers are becoming more conscious of the impact that their wedding has environmentally, we are seeing many that want to reduce their carbon footprint and waste.” Angela continues, “As an eco-friendly florist, we have stopped using floral foam and all of our installations are now foam-free. Foam has a massive impact on the planet being a micro plastic so we have taken floral arranging back to traditional methods by using chicken wire, water containers and sustainable moss. We are using Cornish and British-grown flowers and foliage to eliminate air miles which are not only better for the environment but also supports local growers and businesses. We encourage our brides to pick flower varieties that are in season for their big day.” All of the packaging that Angela and John at Vintage & Bloom use is recyclable. “The ribbons are natural plant-dyed silk and vegan ribbons, handmade in a sustainable method from a small business called The Botanical Dyer (www.thebotanicaldyer.co.uk),” Angela says. “We use upcycled vintage props and vases for our weddings which look fantastic and can be reused again and again. Small changes make a big difference.” Images courtesy of https://jacobfullman.photography, www.katiegoffphotography.com, www.charlotte-weaver.co.uk ARTEM FLORUM Marina Law is the creative talent behind Artem Florum, a Devon-based florist. She creates beautiful floral designs for weddings and events throughout Devon and Cornwall. She tells us, “It’s now more important than ever to take extra care and time to run a business that’s sustainable and protects our natural world as much as possible. Something to consider should always be the distance our flowers travel to arrive in the hands of our couples getting married. At Artem Florum we try to buy flowers as locally as possible using wholesalers such as Highcroft Nurseries in Cornwall (https://bjrichardsflowers.co.uk) and other smaller local growers such as Greenacre Flowers near Exeter (www.greenacreflowers.co.uk). Buying locally means we’re keeping the flower footprint lower.” Marina continues, “Another important factor is using seasonal flowers in our designs that can be challenging at times due to our unpredictable weather patterns in the UK but we try to take advantage of seasonal varieties where we can.” ✿ 01326 372 230 | https://vintageandbloom.co.uk www.facebook.com/vintageandbloom | www.instagram.com/vintageandbloom_ ✿ 07763 554 998 | www.artemflorum.com www.facebook.com/artemflorum www.instagram.com/artemflorum Photography of Artem Florum courtesy of www.instagram.com/flori_rosa_photography_uk 56
