FLAPJACKERYWINS FOUR GOLDS AT TASTE OF THE WEST AWARDS Flapjackery, offering artisan flapjacks handmade in Devon, has just received four Golds at the Taste of the West Awards, the South West’s prestigious food, drink and hospitality awards. The four luxurious products awarded were a lemon drizzle flapjack, peanut butter brownie flapjack (made using Freda’s ‘Gold’ award-winning peanut butter), traditional flapjack and burnt caramel and sea salt-flavoured flapjack. Co-founder Carol Myott tells us, “We set up Flapjackery six years ago following lots of comments about how good our flapjacks tasted. The last couple of years have not been easy because of the lockdown, but we have kept going and are delighted to have received these awards which are testament to the team’s hard work and determination.” Fellow co-founder Sally Jenkin adds, “These flapjacks are hugely popular at our new Flapjackery stores in Wells and Minehead as well as our first shop in Tavistock.” Judged by the most astute palates of chefs, buyers, retailers and food writers, the Taste of the West Awards is a renowned accreditation for artisan producers, cafés and restaurants, providing an opportunity for them to gain recognition for their products and services. The awards celebrate the quality, integrity and provenance of food in the region and seek to promote local produce that goes above and beyond in terms of quality and taste. The unmistakable logo is a clear signal for an outstanding product that has met rigorous judging criteria. Design agency Here Design have been instrumental in revamping Two Drifters’ new lighter and British-made bottle, which features a natural cork with FSC wooden top, 100% compostable tamper seal and paper labels made from 95% sugarcane fibre and 5% hemp and linen with a plant-based adhesive. The new design uses eye-catching colours with hues of bright green, orange and blue against an illustration of a boat that pays homage to the company’s Devonshire roots. The spirit hasn’t changed, with the brand’s unique and award-winning rum still made with a carbon-negative footprint in a bespoke warehouse near Exeter Airport. The range can be enjoyed simply over ice, or used as a base for many cocktails. Favourites, especially for weddings, include the Overproof Spiced Pineapple Rum (think rich and fruity with irresistible notes of ripe pineapple, salted caramel and creme brûlée) and the equally popular Lightly Spiced Rum (a warming and aromatic spirit boasting notes of vanilla, chai tea, toffee apple and delicate clove). The Signature Rum is a full-bodied and buttery spirit with rich notes of treacle, toffee, ginger and Muscovado sugar and the Pure White Rum offers a crisp and clean taste with fresh notes of vanilla, apple, white pepper and lime zest. The company’s vibrant new website with low-carbon emission technology, and a dedicated educational section on CO2 emissions, has also been launched. Set to solidify their position as the world’s most sustainable rum, the carbon-neutral Shopify e-commerce site is now home to Two Drifters merchandise.
