First things first: Happy New Year! I love our first issue of the year as it’s the time we welcome most new readers, with the festive season being the most popular for romantic proposals, and celebrate with existing readers as they flip over the calendar to realise - “We’re getting married THIS YEAR!!” Welcome one and all; we’re delighted to be sharing this exciting chapter with you. Whichever camp you fall into, we hope you’ll find this issue useful and inspiring. With attire and entertainment being two of the earliest aspects to consider, we’ve taken a deep dive into both topics. What’s more, whether you’re seeking guidance from those wise couples who’ve been there, done that, or simply like being nosey (we don’t blame you), there’s plenty to love in our local real weddings this issue. We also have a jaw-dropping shoot featuring locally grown blooms that’s not to be missed. We can’t wait to discover what 2026 has in store for the wonderful world of weddings. Five-star pampering Cheshire’s Manor House Alsager is marking a milestone year after being awarded the prestigious Five Bubble Luxury rating from The Good Spa Guide for 2025, making it one of only two spas in the North West to achieve this accolade. The Five Bubble Luxury rating, the highest in spa excellence, recognised the Manor House Alsager’s exceptional guest experience. The Spa Spies praised the venues “laid back vibe” and “relaxed, friendly service,” calling it “everything you want from a spa day.” The Secret Spa Garden received particular acclaim, earning a “huge thumbs up” for its swim-up bar and hydrotherapy pool, Finnish sauna and cold-water plunge combination, plus two elegant greenhouses designed for ultimate relaxation. Reviewers also highlighted the “epic platters” served at Stables restaurant. So, grab your closest cohort or spouse-to-be and book a spot of pre-wedding R&R. Find out more at manorhousealsager.com Among THE CLOUDS Pantone, the global colour authority and provider of professional colour language standards has introduced Pantone 11-4201 Cloud Dancer, a billowy white imbued with a feeling of serenity as its Colour of the Year selection for 2026, and it’s a total wedding vibe! An ethereal white hue, Cloud Dancer serves as a symbol of calming influence in a frenetic society rediscovering the value of measured consideration and quiet reflection. SUSTAINABILITY STARS Artemis, a leading UK wedding venue group boasting properties in Cheshire, has announced that it has been awarded accreditation by the Sustainable Wedding Alliance. This prestigious recognition, a culmination of a partnership that began in September 2023, marks Artemis as the first venue group in the UK to be officially accredited by the SWA. The partnership focused on embedding robust, sustainable practices throughout Artemis’s head office operations, setting a benchmark for environmental and social responsibility within the wedding industry. The accreditation ensures that every wedding hosted by the group’s venues is memorable for their couples, meaningful for their teams, and positively impacts the planet and the communities they serve. It also sets a new benchmark for the wedding industry, showing that sustainability and exceptional experiences can go hand in hand. Somerset Blooms started with £40, a bucket of flowers and, “absolutely no idea where it would lead.” This soon flourished into a floristry business with projects across the UK and now celebrates its fourth anniversary. For owner Nathalie, this has meant, “Four years of early starts, late finishes, muddy shoes, sore arms, mood boards that changed 27 times and flowers absolutely everywhere,” she says. “From everyday bunches to big moments, every order, message, recommendation and bit of support has genuinely meant the world. Here’s to good flowers, good people, and whatever chaos comes next!” Find out more about Somerset Blooms at somersetblooms.co.uk THE MODERN WEDDING If you’re starting out on your journey to W-day, getting a handle on the latest statistics and trends may well help you navigate the planning process. Party Houses has analysed everything from average costs and guest numbers, so you don’t have to. Here’s a breakdown of the key facts shaping UK weddings right now, based on the most recent available data. The average cost of a UK wedding in 2024 was reported to be between £21,000 and £25,000, while the cost-of-living crisis impacted the wedding budget for 58 per cent of couples. The good news is that neighbouring Wales is the least expensive place to get married at an average cost of £15,529. In 2024, the average number of wedding guests was around 8389, an increase from the previous period. Smaller, more intimate weddings are a continuing trend going forward. Hotels were the most popular venue choice, selected by 26-29 per cent of couples, while barns were chosen by approximately 1522 per cent. Saturday remains the most frequent day for weddings although its dominance is decreasing with many venues offering fantastic deals on other days of the week. There’s now a trend towards offpeak dates, with autumn, particularly October becoming almost as popular as the summer months. Check out the full report at partyhouses.co.uk/wedding-statisticsuk. eternal love is After Tendai proposed to Chloe in the Eternal City the couple set about planning a wedding day styled with timeless elegance Images courtesy of Sarah Horton Photography High school friends Chloe and Tendai were reunited years later when Chloe volunteered at the hospital where Tendai worked. They started sharing their lunch breaks and from there a beautiful romance blossomed. Tendai proposed during a trip to the Eternal City, Rome. He chose a quiet moment following a tasting menu experience at a sky-view restaurant overlooking the city. When the two went along to visit Combermere Abbey it felt right. “The gardens and Edwardian glass house were perfect for our summer wedding,” Chloe explains. “We also loved the fact that we had exclusive use of the estate.” To complement the setting the couple opted for a neutral, botanical theme with ivory and green tones reflected in their florals with centrepieces accompanied by glass candle sticks. The team at Combermere laid on a mouthwatering feast for the newlyweds and their guests. The day’s dining began with a selection of three canapés served during cocktail hour alongside cloudy apple Cosmopolitans. Wedding breakfast then opened with a classic tomato soup, followed by roast lamb for the main course and chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert. “We were absolutely blown away by the service, standard of care and quality Combermere put into their catering,” Chloe remembers. The bride was stunning in her classic, matte, lace, fishtail Stella York gown with cap sleeves. She added a simple tulle overskirt for drama and to create two looks for ceremony and reception. “As a curvy bride, dress shopping was a bit of a tricky experience for me but the ladies at Brides of Chester made me feel comfortable and beautiful,” Chloe says. “I knew I’d found my dress when I came out of the dressing room and noticed my nan, sister and mum crying. It was a special moment I won’t forget.” Tendai wore a beige three-piece suit by Marc Darcy. He chose a green floral tie to match their palette and added brown leather shoes and belt. Meanwhile, his groomsmen were dressed in classic black suit jackets and trousers. “My bridesmaids’ dresses are probably one of my favourite elements of the wedding,” Chloe tells us. The ladies wore sage green gowns embellished with ivory floral details, and each one chose their own neckline and style. “Our wedding reception wouldn’t have been the same without Reece from PC Roadshow,” Chloe says. He went beyond just playing music – he created an experience.” Reece also blended Zimbabwean and English music perfectly, reflecting both the couple’s backgrounds. “He kept the atmosphere buzzing all evening, and our guests are still talking about it,” Chloe recalls. For Chloe, the most magical moment of the day came at the end. Everyone joined the newlyweds on the dance floor for their final song, Unwritten, forming a circle around them. “As the music played we all danced and sang together. It felt as though the whole room was united as one,” Chloe shares. “There was an overwhelming feeling of joy and togetherness.” REAL WEDDINGS 15

REAL WEDDINGS 21
When Dan proposed, it was a total shock,” bride Rebecca tells us. Having returned from walking their pug Nala, Rebecca had gone upstairs to change out of her muddy trackies and came back down to find the lounge in darkness and the TV on. On the screen was a slideshow featuring photos and videos from their seven years together. “I still hadn’t clocked that this was a proposal though,” Rebecca laughs. When it ended, Dan produced the engagement ring, and the penny dropped. “I cried my eyes out,” the bride-to-be remembers. The couple wanted to tie the knot locally and looked at a few venues but after seeing Colshaw Hall nothing else came close. “After meeting the staff we were confident that we were in safe hands,” Rebecca shares. “They really make you feel like yours is the most important wedding they’ve ever done.” Opting for a palette of neutrals, the two styled the venue with a mix of beautiful blooms, candles and drapes. “It looked absolutely stunning,” Rebecca remembers. Meanwhile, Barrett’s Event Catering took care of the food, which we’re led to believe, went down a storm. “One of the guests said it was the best meal she’d ever had,” Rebecca tells us. The couple also laid on a pick ‘n’ mix cart to keep everyone going. The intention was to keep the kids entertained, but the adults snaffled most of the sweeties! “ 22
Having watched Say Yes To The Dress religiously since becoming engaged, Rebecca had a devised plan when shopping for her dream gown. “My criteria were: 1. A nice back or some sort of feature on the back, 2. Something a bit different and, 3. Sparkle.” She was lucky enough to find all three in her beautiful Morilee dress. Dan hired his suit from John Francis Suit Hire, and his groomsmen were dressed to match him. The bridesmaids meanwhile, were dressed in elegant champagne gowns. The standout entertainment of the day came via Grace, Dan’s daughter, who performed an aerial hoop routine. “She was incredible,” Rebecca remembers. While Rebecca loved every second of the big day, she has particularly fond memories of the morning, getting ready with her girls. “People kept asking if I was stressed but I was relaxed and just enjoyed it. The staff at Colshaw and our suppliers (MUA Sarah Meredith and photographers SMH) really helped with that too. Everything was taken care of, which was amazing,” she shares. The bride also has some sage words of advice: “Book the big things early as suppliers can get booked up far in advance. Do it your way – it’s your day, no one else’s. Try to block out the noise and focus on what feels right for both of you.” REAL WEDDINGS 23

Greenfingers A celebration of seasonal British flowers at Hilltop Country House Images courtesy of Elle Brotherhood Photography, Chelsea Shoesmith Photography, and James Starkey A collective of talented florists from across the North West came together to create this local shoot at Hilltop Country House in Bollington, Cheshire, celebrating the beauty and abundance of locally grown, seasonal flowers. Every bloom featured was grown by the florists themselves on their own flower farms, a vibrant showcase of the region’s floral artistry and a testament to the creativity that thrives within the British cut-flower movement. Designed around a palette of warm late-summer tones, the arrangements overflowed with dahlias, cosmos, and textured foliage, complementing the romantic country garden setting of Hilltop’s lawns and hedgerows. The result was a scene that feels both natural and luxurious, proof that elevated floral design can be achieved sustainably, with flowers grown close to home. Continuing the theme of sustainability, the shoot also features repurposed, pre-loved wedding dresses, restyled into contemporary, ethical bridalwear, pairing perfectly with the eco-conscious ethos of the florists’ work. This collaborative project was proudly supported by Flowers From The Farm, the award-winning trade association representing more than 1,000 independent British flower growers. Together, the team created an inspiring vision of modern British wedding style – romantic, responsible, and rooted in the seasons. ellebrotherhood.com LOCAL SHOOT 27

We share some of our top entertainment ideas for every stage of your big day Life and soul OF THE PARTY Sarah Noltner for Unsplash As you’re no doubt already discovering, planning a wedding involves maintaining a delicate balance between what the two of you really want and ensuring the day is fun and memorable for your guests. While we always recommend to plan your wedding, your way, it’s only natural and right that should you want your loved ones to be happy, having made the effort to celebrate such an important occasion with you. A key part of achieving this is the entertainment you provide during the day. So, we’ve put together a complete guide to wedding entertainment from ceremony to celebrations, ensuring there’s never a dull moment, and memories will be made to cherish for a lifetime. 32
Ceremony A romantic ambience Xingchen Yan for Unsplash HEART STRINGS For many, a string quartet calls to mind the Georgian and Regency eras. Think of the romance of a Jane Austen novel or, of course, everyone’s TV favourite Bridgerton. The sound immediately transports us back to assembly rooms with dapper gentlemen swirling elegant ladies in gorgeous gowns around the dancefloor, creating a dreamy atmosphere. If classical music isn’t your thing, most quartets will be more than happy to perform instrumental renditions of your favourite chart hits, regularly including them in their wedding repertoire as standard. If a string quartet is too much of a budget-buster, consider a solo musician who will create the same vibe equally well. Sticking to the strings we adore the mellow sound of a cellist, or the classic violin. Harpists too are an absolute wedding favourite and add an ethereal air to proceedings. KEY TO MY HEART Another versatile ceremony favourite is the piano. If you’re getting married in a stately home venue with a grand piano in situ, it would be a terrible waste not to use it! If there isn’t one handy, this instrument does require a little more logistical thought, so when making enquiries with a pianist find out what they’ll need. Worst case scenario, most will have an electric piano they can bring with them but do consider the possible difference in sound from a traditional instrument. We recommend listening to any videos they post on social media to get an idea and make sure you’re happy. Hrant Khachatryan for Unsplash RAISE YOUR VOICE Hands up if you remember Kingdom Choir’s incredible performance at Harry and Meghan’s wedding back in 2018? If you fancy a similar showstopping performance to grace your ceremony, we recommend looking into local chamber choirs. Typically consisting of around 12 to 30 members, they’re more space-friendly than a full 70-odd-strong choir and make as joyful or ethereal a sound as you wish thanks to their tight and intricate harmonies. Or, to really raise the roof, look into local gospel choirs who will make the most joyful noise possible. Turn your ceremony into a rip-roaring celebration, that’ll have guests on their feet! For something more low key, opt for an acoustic duo or soloist. Soloists will vary in style from beautiful sopranos for a sophisticated edge, to a musical theatre or folk feel. Whatever your musical taste, there’ll be someone out there for you so hit social media and Google to find the right fit for your preferred atmosphere. Bear in mind that vocalists can build up a huge following and reputation for themselves and can be much in demand. Especially since it’s possible to hire those who have featured on TV talent shows for example, so costs will vary greatly. Renee Van Den Kerkhof for Unsplash OUTSIDE THE BOX For something completely different, we recommend hiring a live painter to capture your ceremony. Not only does this leave you with a unique record of such an incredible moment in your lives, watching the artist work can provide guests with quite the entertaining spectacle during lulls such as when you’re signing the register. HAVE INSTRUMENT, WILL TRAVEL If you’ve found the perfect musician but they’re out of area, do make enquiries early on about travel costs. You will be expected to cover these expenses, so it’s important to know how this affects your quote early on. ENTERTAINMENT 33
Good afternoon Time to mingle, wine & dine Joseph Two for Unsplash MUSIC TO YOUR EARS Musical entertainment is a great option for your drinks reception. One idea here is to book your ceremony musicians to say on, switching up the vibe and repertoire to set the scene for the ensuing celebrations. If you opted to keep the tunes classical for the “I dos,” now’s the chance for them to let loose with versions of modern hits – Disney classics are always popular. Your guests will have fun naming that tune! Acoustic musicians work wonderfully well in this setting providing a laid-back air, the perfect background for chatting and sipping on Champagne. Singers too can create a lovely, mellow ambience, perfect for a sunny day. Nothing sets the celebratory tone like a roaming brass band. Have them meet you as you exit the ceremony and process you and your guests Madis Gras-style over to your ceremony space. This works best when your venue has gorgeous grounds to enjoy. THE CLASSICS Magicians are popular for this part of the day for a good reason. They provide a wonderful icebreaker as guests join in marvelling at the jaw-dropping tricks they’re witnessing. They’ll also make for a talking point long after the day has drawn to a close with folks still musing: “How on earth did they do that?” A caricaturist, illustrator or silhouette artist also offers a great way to keep loved ones occupied. Not only is this an entertaining experience for the subjects of the artwork, but other guests will also enjoy gathering around watching the artist at work. Plus, there’s the added benefit of a keepsake for loved ones to treasure. FUN AND GAMES Vintage lawn games provide ample fun for all ages. Think giant Connect4 and Jenga to name only two. Fairground style attractions, such as hook-a-duck and coconut shy will also have everyone queuing up for their turn. Have a look for local suppliers and see what ideas they have to offer for hire to save you a world of time and effort. Mini or crazy golf is a classic, and some suppliers even offer wedding-themed obstacles. You’ll be rushing back from your photo shoot to take your turn! For more wedding themed fun, shop around for a weddingwhite bouncy castle. Kids young and old will love it and don’t miss the opportunity for some hilarious shots as you and your new spouse or bridesmaids take a turn! If you love this idea, why not go all out with It’s a Knockout-style inflatables? Seeing our nearest and dearest get mega-competitive, while trying to maintain dignity in their wedding gear, will be a sight we guarantee you’ll never forget! Balint Mendlik for Unsplash AL FRESCO AIR If you’re hosting a drinks reception outside, check with your musicians what they’ll need on site. For example, if they need access to electricity, this will need to be worked out with the venue in terms of where they can set up. It may also be helpful to provide them with shade if the day is forecast to be a hot one. Andy Quezada for Unsplash wayfair.co.uk THE YOUNG ONES Don’t forget your mini guests. Boredom is the enemy of any wedding when it comes to the little ones, so be sure to keep them occupied! Enlist the help of a wedding creche service, allowing you peace of mind that the children are safe and sound and having the time of their lives with activities aplenty. If you prefer to go DIY, set up a chill out corner for them with a tipi den, colouring and crafts station, or hire a face painter to add to their fun. “Love a competitive element? We recommend an archery range, axe throwing or clay-pigeon shooting competition. These bring a brilliantly themed approach to a country estate wedding.” 34
Frederick Shaw for Unsplash ANIMAL ATTRACTION For all the animal lovers out there, why not invite some along to share your big day? Whether it be your own pet pooch who’s stayed on with their pet chaperone for a meet and greet with photos, or offering the opportunity to pet the venue’s farmyard residents, we’re all for the opportunity to make new furry friends! A falconry display is a great way to gather everyone together and interact as they marvel at these majestic birds. You can even incorporate an element of this into your ceremony by having an owl act as airborne ring-bearer. Further on the feathered friends front, a dove release is a poignant addition. You and your guests look on as they soar and circle in memory of loved ones who can’t be with you or as a simple symbol of peace, love and new beginnings. For a dose of cuteness overload, hire a party pony to carry your confetti. Later, they’ll mingle with guests and pose for photos. OUTSIDE THE BOX Opt for a sophisticated or quirky edge with some circus entertainers. From elegant aerial acrobats to jugglers and stilt walkers, they sure to bring a smile to the faces of all assembled. Misho Chachanidze for Pexels TURNING TABLES Sitting people together with others they don’t know is often inevitable. So, lay out some icebreaker table games out for guests to play while they wait to be served. A quiz about the two of you will have everyone swapping stories and answers, while Two Truths and a Lie will help the group get to know each other in no time. Advice cards are also fun for wise loved ones to fill out, and you never know, may prove useful. You could also make up some party survival kits instead of favours. Include items such as personalised temporary tattoos, glow sticks, drinks tokens, sweets and more. When you’ve finished your meal and the speeches have been made, transition into the evening with a game of Mr & Mrs, also known as the shoe game. It can offer some hilariously entertaining insights into your relationship! singing-waiters.co.uk | © robtarren.co.uk ARE YOU BEING SERVED? Surprise your guests with a performance from a troupe of singing waiters. This is even more fun if your new spouse is also blissfully unaware of what’s about to unfold! For those of you unfamiliar with the concept, your singing waiters will serve your wedding breakfast, sometimes even canapés too, all the while avoiding suspicion from guests. As far as they’re concerned, they’re being waited on by the caterer’s serving team. Things start to take a turn as some form of chaos usually unfolds, whether it be the clatter of a tray being dropped or a row breaking out. Watching your guests’ emotions move from awkward through to absolute glee as the waiters break out into song, will be a moment to remember for a lifetime – priceless. Natalia Blauth for Unsplash ENTERTAINMENT 35
The evening do It’s party time! entertainment-nation.co.uk BIT OF A GAMBLE Bring the glamour and sophistication of Monte Carlo to your wedding day with a casino table. Local suppliers offer a choice of games, complete with a croupier, personalised fun money and prizes. Don’t worry, your guests won’t lose the shirts on their backs as no genuine currency changes hands; they’ll compete to win a bottle of Champers for example. It’s all in the name of fun. For something a little more quirky, how about a retro video games corner? The children will have to fight off the adults for a turn! From arcade machines to PS1s, shop around to see what brings the two of you the most nostalgia. Alternatively, round up a board game haul from local charity shops and boot fairs, or borrow from friends. Stack them up on a table and invite guests to help themselves – roars of laughter will be music to your ears! HIT THE DANCEFLOOR Nothing quite beats a live band when it comes to your evening entertainment. If you use an entertainment booking agency, it’s like having a supermarket of options right in front of you. Simply pick the band that suits your style. From country and folk to retro or tribute acts, you’ll find it all here. If it’s possible, we recommend grabbing any opportunity to see your preferred band live so you can see them in action and form a better picture of whether they’re the right act for you. If you’d rather opt for the traditional DJ, do chat to your venue first to find out their recommended or resident choices to ensure you’re booking with someone trustworthy. Take your dancefloor to the next level by booking a live saxophonist or percussionist to play along with your DJ’s set. They’ll weave in and out of dancing guests as they play creating a fun, interactive memorable experience with an Ibiza vibe. Furnish guests with a glitter bar and glow sticks to take the atmosphere that extra mile! Why not surprise and impress your guests with a choreographed first dance routine or a flash mob routine performed by your bridal party? BEST WISHES Guest books are a lovely memento but getting loved ones to fill one out can be quite the challenge. The good news is that there are now plenty of fun versions on the market that not only provide a keepsake for you but a source of entertainment for your guests – win-win! Photo booths are becoming a wedding staple and available in a myriad of versions including the selfie mirror, vintage camera style, 360 booths, as well as your classic booth. They all come with heaps of props that you can often customise according to your theme for the most zany pictures. Your guests will get a copy to take home and you’ll get one to stick into your guest book. Many companies will offer an attendant to supervise this process by asking guests to write a message alongside their pic. Audio guest books are the latest format to arrive. Guests record their well wishes on a retro phone or in a telephone box. Imagine the hilarity when listening back to messages recorded when guests were clearly a drink or two in! How wonderful it is too to immortalise the voices of your nearest and dearest. Finally, we adore a painted guest book where an artist will come along to your wedding armed with a canvas for loved ones to adorn with their artwork. They’ll then take it away with them at the end of the night and turn it into a cohesive painting. Et voila, a work of art your guests contributed to that can be displayed pride of place in your together home. Barry Wong for Unsplash OUTSIDE THE BOX For the most fun you’ll ever have in one night, we highly recommend a ceilidh. This promises everyone a rip-roaring time, regardless of their prowess on the dancefloor, as a caller will guide them through each step. Guests collectively enjoy the participation, whether it be joining in the routines or clapping along and laughing at all the hilarious missteps! Ben Iwara for Unsplash Edward Cisneros for Unsplash PLAYING WITH FIRE If you’re keen to make a statement and end the night with a bang, a firework display is a great way to achieve this. Gather guests in your venue’s grounds to ooh and ahh at the pyrotechnics or grab some sparklers for a send-off to remember with great photos to boot. 36
