Yes, the summer is here! Finally... Is it me or does winter seem longer every year? As loyal readers will know, I’m a total winter bunny, but even I get a bit disheartened with the long nights and drizzle after a while. After all, there is a season. And what does summer mean? Altogether now – weddings! While it’s now truer than ever that every season is wedding season, it’s undeniable that summer is still the most popular pick. The weather can be somewhat more reliable, and this gorgeous region is looking its very best. For me summer speaks to lazing about with a picnic, barbecues, warm evenings enjoyed al fresco, and day trips with friends – it’s a vibe! If the same rings true for you, did you know these are all things you can include in your wedding day? When it comes to food, get creative and ditch the formal seating plan in favour of a laid-back setup with grazing feasts or a hearty barbecue served in your venue’s grounds. Indeed, we highly recommend opting for a venue with glorious gardens or super-cute courtyard with Med-style atmosphere at this time of year, purely because of the opportunities it affords you in terms of making the most of those long evenings. Think cosy firepits, blankets in case it does get a bit chilly and heaps of charming festoon lighting. If you love nothing more than getting away for an adventure with your friends, why not turn your wedding into a weekend away with your closest cohort? Many local venues offer two-to-three-day hire allowing you to get settled the night before, enjoy a delicious meal together before celebrating the big day and rounding out the weekend with a morning-after breakfast together. Some offer this format utilising on-site accommodation in the form of charming cottages or renovated farm buildings, while others allow for bell tent hire and glamping. So, you’ll be able to find the dream location whatever your style. This issue we delve into 2025’s top venue styling trends, which we hope will inspire you. Plus, if you’re at the stage where you’re starting to look into wedding rings, don’t miss our ultimate guide. So, as ever, enjoy and keeeep planning! 6 FINE DINING EXCELLENCE Five-star Palé Hall Hotel on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, has announced the appointment of Edward Marsh as head chef unveiling an elevated new chapter for fine dining at the hotel. Marsh has introduced four- and-six course seasonal tasting menus with each dish designed to showcase exemplary technique, thoughtful balance and a deep respect for local, seasonal ingredients. Coinciding with the new menus is the unveiling of Hearth, the newly reimagined private dining room. Once the original kitchen of the house, built in 1871, the space has been artfully restored to its roots. At its centre stands the original cast iron hearth, now complemented by a new cooking station set within the dramatic bay window, designed to host interactive chef’s table experiences. The room is anchored by a bespoke timber dining table that adapts to seat groups of up to 16. Meanwhile, a wine display wall showcases a selection of fine wines incorporating a discreet service counter where the sommelier can prepare and pour wine exclusively for guests dining here. Known for his expert colour, precision cutting and nononsense service, Andrew made the tough decision to close his salon in Cressington during the aftermath of Covid. But instead of stepping back, he switched things up moving into a rental chair on Smithdown Road and focusing fully on his craft. The gamble paid off. Not only has he rebuilt a loyal client base, but he’s now gained national recognition for it. “I’ve never been about trends or hype,” Andrew says. “It’s always been about doing things properly and looking after people in the chair. To have that recognised at this level means a lot.” The grand final takes place at The ICC in Birmingham on Saturday 30th August. Will Andrew make the national Top 50? We wish him all the very best. Follow Andrew to find out @AJMHAIR BEAUTY HUB Inside Liverpool’s Corn Exchange on Fenwick Street, a quiet transformation is taking place. Phenix Salon Suites, a U.S. concept with more than 400 locations across America, is expanding in the heart of Liverpool. But these aren’t your typical salon spaces. Behind the grand façade of this historic building lies a collection of private, fully equipped salon suites designed to give hair and beauty professionals the freedom to work for themselves, on their own terms. Each suite is tailored for a range of experts, from hairdressers and barbers to nail technicians, tattoo artists, lash specialists and massage therapists. With no salon floor, no rigid schedules and no one looking over their shoulder, independents can focus solely on their craft. Jordan Heyes, owner of Jordan Heyes Hair, said: “When I first started out, I was struggling to find the right balance. I wanted to run my own business, but the cost of renting a full salon space was a barrier. Phenix gave me the flexibility to work in my own suite, set my own hours and build my client base without the huge upfront costs. It’s made all the difference in giving me the independence I needed to get started in this industry.” Find a directory of local professionals who may be able to help curate your bigday look over at phenixsalonsuitesuk.com ©JodiHinds

Niamh and John met via a mutual friend and got on like a house on fire from the get-go. “We made each other laugh and it just felt really natural when we went on our first date,” Niamh shares. Once he’d decided to propose, John booked a surprise weekend away in London. The couple enjoyed a trip to the theatre, followed by dinner and John popped the question when they got back to the hotel. Niamh’s parents got married at St Mary’s Church in Lymm, so the couple decided to tie the knot here too, right by Lymm dam. “I always wanted wedding bells,” Niamh explains. When it came to the reception venue, the two looked at many Cheshire venues, but fell in love with Arley Hall and Gardens. “It’s stunning, has gorgeous grounds and the staff are so lovely and helpful,” Niamh explains. “We really felt like they’d look after us!” So, the date was set for 27th July 2024, here the bride tells us all about the big day... SETTING THE SCENE The couple picked a palette of jewel tones and combined these with plenty of personal touches. As John is half French, they opted for macaron wedding favours and since Niamh is an avid reader and English grad the table centres were second hand hardbacks tied with ribbon. “Our florist was absolutely lovely working with us on these,” Niamh says. Nikita from Feel Good Florist created the arrangements in gold vases for the centrepieces, as well as a long and low display for the top table. She also made the buttonholes and bouquets in gorgeous jewel tones, which included purple dahlias, roses, blue delphiniums and peacock feathers for the bride. The cake, iced in dark green, brushed with gold, was adorned in sugar flowers to match the fresh ones in the arrangements. VINTAGE VIBES The couple hired vintage cars for the bridal party’s journey from church to venue. “We wanted something timeless and elegant, and they were just perfect,” Niamh remembers. “Both Arley and the church were very helpful with disabled access and parking.” EAT, DRINK AND BE MERRY Following the “I dos,” guests were served a mouth-watering selection of canapés including sticky sausages, mature cheddar bon bons, salmon fish cakes and blush tomato arancini. “We wanted a selection that allowed everyone to find something to enjoy,” Niamh explains. For the wedding breakfast, the couple chose a heritage tomato and goat’s cheese tart to start, followed by a main of beef or a vegetarian option of risotto. The meal finished with white chocolate and raspberry pots served with lavender shortbread. “Barretts Caterers were able to make vegan options of both our starter and dessert,” Niamh says. “We picked menu options we’d enjoyed and thought others would like too and that wouldn’t be too heavy in the middle of summer.” The couple preferred to select their own wines opting for corkage rather than a package. LOOKING THE PART The bride wore Elspeth by Ellis Bridals. “The staff at Bethany Hannah pulled this one for me and I instantly fell in love,” Niamh remembers. “It was elegant and classic, and I loved the buttons REAL WEDDINGS 13
down the back as well as the oyster colour.” John chose a bespoke three-piece suit in a breathable, light grey wool blend that would allow him to stay comfortable. The couple colour matched the suit and trousers combo for the groomsmen, who didn’t wear waistcoats, but accessorised with the same dark green ties. The bridesmaids wore dark green floor-length gowns with a V-neck and slight sparkle in the fabric. The junior bridesmaids’ dresses were white at the top with dark green skirts. TIME TO CELEBRATE A string quartet entertained guests during cocktail hour, and for the evening the couple opted to keep things simple with a DJ and dancefloor. MEMORABLE MOMENTS “Rain had been forecast for the day, so when we stepped out of the church, the ground was soaked but the sun was shining,” Niamh remembers. “There had been thunder and lightning during the service, but we hadn’t even noticed! The rest of the day was gorgeous and sunny.” The newlyweds were thrilled with the work their suppliers put into bringing their vision to life. “They were all incredible,” Niamh tells us. “Our cake designer worked closely with our florist to get the flowers right and it was gorgeous. Our florist did an amazing job and came back the next day to break the centrepieces down into bouquets for guests to take home. Our photographer, Jaine, was wonderful, all the way from our engagement shoot to helping us get comfortable in front of the camera and more, she made everything feel effortless.” 14

Sarah and Henry said “I do” at a privately-owned country house in Cheshire Images courtesy of Laura May Photography HOME from HOME When Henry proposed to Sarah four years on from their first date, the venue search for their big day began. “We knew we wanted to get married in Audlem, close to where we both grew up,” Sarah explains. “The challenge was to find a venue close enough to the church. The one we eventually chose gave us free rein to use the building in whichever way we wanted. We loved that the owners were happy for us to treat it like our home for the weekend. It had an intimate atmosphere and provided rooms for 20 of our friends to stay. It was the perfect setting for a fun weekend away with our loved ones.” So, the couple didn’t hesitate and secured their date: 31st August 2024. Read on as Sarah tells us more... 17 REAL WEDDINGS
The bridesmaids wore matching cream, taffeta, A-line, midi dresses from Karen Millen. Henry wore a morning suit with pale pink waistcoat and tie. His groomsmen were dressed to match, with the exception of their waistcoats, which were cream. I travelled to the church in an open-top, vintage, blue, 1920s car. I have a fond memory of approaching the church and seeing a crowd of villagers waiting there, and my bridesmaids’ cream dresses glowing in the sunshine. I wore a bespoke gown by Katy Britton with a simple, square neckline, pearl buttons and a bow on the back. 18
Our centrepieces included candles and bud vases. We also sourced a variety of vintage tea cups for the toasts. We set up a croquet pitch to keep guests entertained during the drinks reception. We had a cocktail bar in the evening and also set out glass gin and tonic dispensers from Cheshire-based Three Wrens Gin. 19 REAL WEDDINGS
In the evening, we had live band, The Party Professors, perform. They specialise in medleys and put on a great performance including a surprise dance with the crowd. Our guests didn’t want it to end! A lot of guests commented on how good the speeches were. My brother took on the traditional father-of-the-bride role and had everyone in tears, the applause went on for a very long time. The best man gave us a masterclass in delivery and had guests laughing from beginning to end. We delve in the world of venue styling trends taking weddings by storm in 2025 Wedding WONDERLAND Michael Mcauliffe on Unsplash SJ Objio on Unsplash Noelle Swogger on Unsplash Tamara Govedarovic on Unsplash Whether you’re planning a wow-factor wedding or something understated and personal, chances are you’re going to want to consider some level of venue styling along the way. Your venue will likely govern the lengths you’ll go to, not only in terms of what you’re permitted to do, but also considering whether it offers a blank canvas or a space that’s already a visual feast. Historical venues versus barns are the most obvious juxtaposed examples. A period property may already be packed to the rafters with stunning original features and adding too much would put you at risk of gilding the lily. It can be difficult to pull off a maximalist theme here. A barn venue on the other hand, will likely be a completely blank canvas. This can be welcome to those bursting with ideas but intimidating for others. If you fall into the latter camp but still yearn to put your own stamp on proceedings, look into hiring a local professional venue stylist who’ll do all the creative and physical hard work for you. The vibe of your wedding will be something you’ll need to think about early on, as it’ll have an influence on your venue search – town versus country, rustic versus elegant, boho verses formal and so on. So, put together those Pinterest boards (it’s never too early to start) and head over to the ‘gram to compile the ultimate moodboard of your vision. But hold on! Before you shoot off, don’t miss our roundup of all things venue styling trending with nearlyweds right now! COWBOY ERA We’ve always known that country is cool, but the rest of the world caught on more recently with the cowboycore fashion trend taking hold thanks to music icons such as Beyoncé, Lana Del Ray and old school Taylor Swift. Even ride or die Harry Styles fans identify with the vibe having made cowboy hats a signature over the past couple of years. The bottom line is cowboy’s cool and you know it! Whether any of this has inspired you or you’ve fallen head-overheels for Kevin Costner’s portrayal of John Dutton in Yellowstone, it may delight you to know that more and more are choosing to express their cowboy era though their wedding venue styling. We think it’s 2025’s boho chic! With a wealth of barn venues throughout the region, this vibe is an absolute breeze to pull off since its roots lie in rustic, countryside elements. So, what are your easy-to-access, traditionally rustic elements that can work here? Think milk churns filled with florals, macrame hanging installations, hay bales, festoon lighting and mismatched wooden furniture. Then, sprinkle with a few motifs to elevate it to cowboycore luxe: horseshoes, neon signs, cowboy boots, horsebox bar, cartwheels, star-shaped paper lanterns mirroring the stars and stripes, and cactus favours or centrepieces, and you’re away! Frank Flores on Unsplash 22
HANG IN THERE! Hanging installations in their various guises continue to be popular and it’s easy to see why. Particularly when you’ve got a high ceiling to contend with, they fill the space above your heads to avoid that somewhat lessthan-cosy, cavernous feeling and make a statement. When suspended above the top table, they also bring the focus your way, as it should be. We love a ceiling filled with festival-style paper lanterns and balloons or disco balls designed around your big-day’s colour palette. What a way to get the party started! If you love the idea of a hanging installation, but your venue doesn’t permit it, talk to your florist about other options. If you’re dining at long, banqueting tables a cloud of flowers, above head height, supported by a frame running the length of the tables looks incredible. It offers the effect of a hanging installation, with no risk to an ornately plastered historical feature ceiling! For a marquee or tipi wedding these features really come into their own when it comes to filling the space with abundance. Think cartwheels, chandeliers or hoops draped with beautiful blooms or ribbons. Whether you choose to go for one main showstopper or multiple lining the space above your tables, opt for low centrepieces to create perfect balance. SUSTAINABILITY Creating a wedding day that’s as sustainable as you can manage is something we’d strongly recommend considering. The key to bear in mind that will make life easy for you: hire, hire, hire! The more decorative features that can be reused, the less goes into landfill and the better this will be for the environment. Don’t get us wrong, we love a craft project, but we’d urge careful thought before embarking upon a huge venture. Stop and think of what will become of your styling masterpieces after the big day. If the honest answer is, ‘They’ll get thrown away,’ stop! Likewise, you may be thinking of sourcing vases from charity shops for your centrepieces. But bear in mind, this is only truly sustainable if you plan to donate them back to the charity shop afterwards or at least regift them. So, the most sustainable solution also happens to be the easiest: hire whatever you can. You’ll find a wealth of local prop suppliers who offer the perfect feature pieces that you can curate to suit any theme. It’s also worth enquiring with your florist, venue stylist and venue what they might be able to offer for hire; from vessels for your blooms to table plan easel, cake stand to centrepieces. If we may take only a very slight diversion off topic here, sourcing your wedding flowers, giving how key they are to bringing a venue to life, is a crucial part of sustainability styling your surroundings. When choosing your florist, do your research and look for one whose ecofriendly ethos aligns with your own. In terms of what to look out for, they’ll likely be sourcing their blooms from local flower farms and will be using sustainable practices such as cutting out the use of oasis. A top tip when it comes to centrepieces is using pot plants such as succulents, which can be handed out as gifts when the night wraps up, giving them a life beyond W-day. HOME SPUN GARDEN WEDDINGS This doesn’t necessarily mean getting married at home but rather creating that English country garden romantic vibe wherever you choose to tie the knot. Here, you can use your venue’s intimate outdoor spaces to the max. Enclosed courtyards or walled gardens are a dream for this theme! Think oodles of informal floral arrangements from table-end meadows to floral runners trailing the length of your banqueting tables. Pastel, wildflower-inspired hues are perfect, as are focal points that evoke a home-spun feel. What about displaying your cake on an upcycled side table or dresser surrounded by blooms and vintage props, styled as though you just popped it on the hall table at home? Making a statement with a vintage bicycle is a popular idea. Decorate it with palette-fitting flowers and prop your welcome sign against it to display as guests enter the venue. We love the trend in meadow-inspired florals especially when it comes to alternative pew ends lining the aisle. This creates an oh-so romantic moment as you make your grand entrance and sweep past them to meet the one you’re about to marry. Better still they can be reused to adorn your reception space to give that garden feel we’re going for. DRAPERY Drapery can completely change a space, transforming a cavernous barn that you were initially intimidated by to give it a softened, romantic atmosphere; throw in some fairylights and that’s when the magic starts to happen! Drapes are also useful for separating your spaces. Again, if you’ve opted for a single-roomed barn venue, you could ask you stylist to drape one section for the ceremony, creating a different feel for your reception section. ALTERNATIVE TABLE SETUPS Couples are starting to switch things up by looking for alternative table layouts for their wedding breakfasts. We’re now seeing more banquetingstyle setups with long tables creating more of a community among guests. But many are going even further when considering more social arrangements such as a serpentine layout with tables laid out in a long winding, snakelike shape as the name implies. Conversely, sweetheart tables are becoming even more popular among newlyweds. While it may sound slightly anti-social for the two of you to sit alone it can have the opposite effect. It makes the two of you feel more accessible with all of your guests feeling equal if you’re not surrounded by a few, handpicked to sit closest to you. But it also does give the two of you time to take it all in together, relishing your first hours as a married couple and being able to look out on all assembled with love and joy in your hearts. Plus, the styling of your sweetheart table can really be a thing of absolute beauty creating a wonderful focal point for the reception. And why shouldn’t you be centre of attention? CREATIVE PALETTES 2025’s couples have been getting creative with their colour palettes using fresh new ideas to bring the wow factor. Be inspired by what’s going on in the world of interior design or fashion to get some ideas. Clashing hues are in – it shouldn’t work but it does! We love the juxtaposition of hot pink and vibrant orange for a bold approach that simply sings. Colour blocking is also a popular choice, choosing one colour and styling the space in varying hues of the same colour. Green has provided a mainstay for this trend, and given the myriad of gentle, fresh and bold tones it provides we can see why – it’s incredibly versatile. This also works to perfection when styling your bridesmaids. The Pantone Colour of the Year always inspires the wedding industry from 2023’s Viva Magenta to our favourite, 2024’s Peach Fuzz. This year Mocha Mousse was chosen. We won’t deny, it’s caused us to pause for thought, but with the passion for neutral tones when it comes to wedding styling, we think it fits in a treat! Anita Austvika on Unsplash Olivie Strauss on Unsplash Alexandra Gornago on Unsplash Anita Austvika on Unsplash. COSY CORNERS Not everyone is a dancefloor fiend, so why not create a relaxing corner away from the chaos where friends and family can kick back with a drink and catch up. Hey, it’s another excuse for some gorgeous styling, right? If your venue doesn’t have the furniture to naturally lend itself to this, such as blank canvas DIY space, there are plenty of local furniture or prop hire companies on hand to help. Hire in some lush sofas and armchairs that’ll make your guests smile with relief. For a vintage vibe, we love the idea of adding features such as a coffee table fashioned from old leather-look suitcases topped vintage-chic accessories. LAYERS OF TEXTURE We’re absolutely obsessed with textured tablescapes, as this technique can bring a theme to life. Here, we’re thinking the opposite to crisp white tablecloths with centrepieces, standard white crockery and glassware. Instead create layer upon layer of texture using a variety of materials such as ruched chiffon table runners in a colour from your palette, gold cutlery, perhaps gold rimmed, coloured or patterned crockery, and our favourite, coloured glassware. Clustered centrepieces work beautifully here with smaller floral arrangements, where the vessel may be a feature, and candles grouped together. Simply stunning! Place names can also play a part. Get creative and think about what materials you could use to add another textured element. What about slices of agate, pinecones, corks or wooden slices? WEDDING GUEST ETIQUETTE Wedding guest advice so you can avoid the classic blunders With many of us gearing up for a summer of ceremonies, receptions, and dress codes; Nicola Barker, head of buying at Suit Direct, has teamed up with etiquette expert Jo Hayes and dating coach Emily Thompson, to unveil the list of things that wedding guests should never do. The standard rules are pretty straightforward and only require you to be conscientious of the couple and their planning process. However, there are some of us out there, who fall victim to the same wedding guest mistakes... Emily explained that a late RSVP can cause instant chaos for the wedding couple, “LateRSVPing is the silent killer of etiquette; it messes with everything from seating charts to catering orders. People don’t realise how much depends on these final counts.” Another silent blunder is skipping the nuptials and only turning up for the after party, Emily said, “It’s just poor etiquette, unless you’ve cleared it with the couple ahead of time. The ceremony is the whole point of the day – where the couple make their vows and, usually, in front of their nearest and dearest. Not being there sends a clear message that you’re here for the food and drinks, not for the marriage. I’ve heard couples say it genuinely hurt their feelings to look around during the vows and see empty chairs, that later filled up at the reception. If for some reason you can’t be there for the ceremony, let the couple know ahead of time, and express your regrets.” Jo added, “To be invited to a wedding is a great honour. The couple could have invited someone else, giving another person the opportunity to witness and celebrate their vows, had they known you wouldn’t show up. Intentionally choosing to skip this part of the occasion is disrespectful.” CAN YOU BRING A PLUS-ONE IF THE INVITATION DOESN’T SAY SO? Weddings present a very unique situation where two different worlds collide – sometimes, you only really know the newlyweds, making arriving solo extra awkward. However, as daunting as this may be, the day isn’t about how you might be feeling. You are there to celebrate the love between two people and watch as they join forces. In short, if it’s not written on the invitation, no plus-one is invited. Jo said, “A firm, no. Weddings are expensive events to put on, which often means, limited guest capacity. Couples spend a lot of time curating their guest list to ensure they hit the right balance regarding guest numbers and financial constraints. Brazenly assuming you can bring a plus-one, without that plus-one being specifically invited, is disrespectful, and dare I say, supremely entitled.” Emily agreed, adding “Your invitation should specify in so many words, ‘and guest’, or else your plus-one is strictly not allowed. Guests should resist misinterpreting vague RSVP cards, to bring along a date on the big day, to only sit at a table with no setting for them – awkward for all involved. Couples decide upon their guest lists carefully, balancing venue space with constraints imposed by budget and family politics. It isn’t just a matter of finances but rather of space and intimacy. Erring cautiously, if there is some uncertainty, an email/text should suffice as a polite way of clearing up the matter; it’s always better not to assume. Having someone not invited turn up puts pressure on the couple and their planning team on-the-day – believe me, I have seen this cause chaos.” If you’re unsure about whether you can bring a wedding guest, Jo explained that unsplash.com@thomasw 26
asking the wedding couple if it is allowed is only acceptable if you’re in a long-term relationship. “Approaching the couple about potentially bringing a plus-one would usually only be considered acceptable if it is a serious, long-term relationship (a new boyfriend of four weeks usually won’t cut it).” WHAT IS THE ETIQUETTE AROUND WEDDING OPEN BARS? We all let out quiet celebrations when we find out that the wedding we are attending is an open bar, but is it really the party we think it is? Yes, you may enjoy it at the time, but what about the next morning, when you are faced with your actions from the night before? The best way to maintain the purity of an open bar is to not push it. You want to show gratitude for their generosity but not to abuse it and leave a foul taste on the night. Emily explained, “A good rule is to limit yourself to one drink per hour and don’t start drinking until after the ceremony. Sure, preceremony cocktails may seem fun, but I have witnessed too many guests slurring through readings or stumbling down the aisle – and that is the type of moment that stays with everyone for all the wrong reasons.” “For wedding party members, you set the tone for the rest of the evening, so it’s respectful to refrain from drinking until it is all clear. Also, keep in mind, the couple are paying for that bar – it might seem fun to you to order five shots in a row, but it is costly and somewhat impolite.” Additionally, Jo gave a stark warning to avoid getting drunk at all costs while attending a wedding. “Too drunk? Any level of drunk is a faux pas. I don’t care if some say it’s ‘the norm’ for their family circle. If you want an etiquette expert’s perspective, the general etiquette rule is: no intoxication!” COMMON WEDDING GUEST OUTFIT MISTAKES We all know that classic rule of don’t wear white to a wedding (unless specifically advised to), but there are other things we need to consider when choosing the right outfit. For single attendees to weddings, you may view this as a brilliant opportunity to meet someone and start your own love story. But dressing too ’clubchic’ sends the wrong message and ruins the tone of the day. Think whimsical love and rom com; not booze, beats and late nights. If you wouldn’t want your boss to see you in that outfit, then put it back in your wardrobe. Jo explained, “really, the only ‘rule’ is for women, who should avoid wearing all-white. Anything that looks too close to what the bride will be wearing is a no-go. This also includes very light shades of cream or very pale pastels. A woman appearing in a long, all-white (or, very pale) gown is erring far too close to the bride’s outfit and could potentially be trying to steal the spotlight.” Emily added, “Another controversial colour is red; Western cultures consider red blatantly conspicuous and would even think it inappropriate if it dressed too ’sexily’ for a formal wedding. Black is still another colour that presents a challenge. Contemporary weddings may tolerate its use, but previous generations will link it symbolically with mourning.” THE DOS AND DON’TS OF WEDDING GUEST ATTIRE Nicola Barker, head of buying at Suit Direct shares her top tips for wedding guest styling: “The golden rule is simple – dress for the occasion the couple planned. That means following the dress code on the invite, whether it’s black tie or cocktail – and never assume ‘casual’ means jeans and a pair of trainers. Even at a laid-back venue, it’s still a special event, so I’d always advise to dress slightly up rather than down.” DO Incorporate colour thoughtfully: Before reaching out for a bold floral or a standout shade, take a second to check the couple’s overall colour scheme. While you’re not expected to blend in, it’s thoughtful to avoid matching the bridesmaids or groomsmen. Choose complementary tones that don’t draw too much focus. Ensure proper fit: Re-wear older items only after confirming they still fit well. Try it on well before the big day. Bodies change and so do tailoring standards. If it doesn’t fit quite right, make sure to get alterations booked in. Pack essentials: Even the most carefully chosen outfit can run into last-minute mishaps. A mini sewing kit, lint roller, and a couple of safety pins can save the day — and someone else’s too. DON’T Avoid last-minute packing: Hang your outfit as soon as possible and use a fabric steamer to eliminate creases. Skip floral boutonnieres: While it might seem like a sweet detail, floral accessories like boutonnieres are traditionally reserved for the wedding party. Opt for a stylish lapel pin or pocket square instead — it’s a great way to show personality without stepping on the groom’s toes. Reserve special looks for the groom: Unless the invitation specifically calls for it, steer clear of white dinner jackets, statement tuxedos, or anything that might read as ’main character energy’. These standout styles are typically reserved for the groom and his groomsmen. unsplash.com@ld05 Nicola Barker, www.suitdirect.co.uk Jo Hayes, www.etiquetteexpert.org Emily Thompson, https://positivesdating. com/author/emily-thompson WEDDING GUEST ETIQUETTE 27
