Photography questions answered snap! OH Selecting a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make, outside of who you choose to marry of course! This key person will be documenting your day. What they create, is the one thing you’ll always have with you from the day to treasure for the rest of your lives. What could be more valuable than memories in physical form? You’d be forgiven for thinking a photographer is a photographer. However, the more you get into it the more you’ll realise this simply isn’t the case. So, we asked some of the region’s finest our top questions to guide you along the way to finding your perfect fit allowing you to come away with a wedding album you adore. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT – IS IT WORTH IT? Debbie McGregor (https://debbiemcgregorphotography.com) says: An engagement shoot isn’t just about getting pretty pictures; it’s about creating some amazing memories together before your wedding day. I call it an adventure session because I love that we can spend up to two hours in your favourite location together exploring and having the most fun ever! It’s super relaxed and fun, giving you both the chance to just be yourselves while I capture those genuine moments between you. Plus, these gorgeous photos can be used for all sorts of things like save-the-dates, your wedding website, or just to hang on your wall and make you smile. If you’re super camera shy, then it’s a perfect way to get comfortable with your partner in front of the lens. We can start simple and far away and I can move closer as the shoot progresses, but to tell you the truth its very relaxed! We can even put on your favourite songs, have a picnic, climb trees or bring the dog, whatever floats your boat! You can mix it up and get images in the opposite season to your wedding. If you’re having an autumn wedding why not have a spring shoot? It’s the perfect way for us to get to know each other better, and for you to feel totally at ease in front of my camera. You’ll get to try out different poses and see what feels natural; and all this practice means you’ll feel like absolute pros when it comes to your wedding photos! No awkward poses or forced smiles, just beautiful, authentic moments of you two being yourselves. Emma Hillier (https://emmahillierphotography.com) says: “A pre-wedding shoot or engagement shoot is a great way for you to get to know your photographer before the wedding day and to reduce some of the nerves you might have about getting in front of the camera. It’s just an hour or so of your time (unless we go for a beer or some lunch afterwards) and not as cringey as it might sound, I promise! Think of it more as meeting up with a friend to go for a walk and chat about your wedding plans. The friend just happens to have a camera and is taking some relaxed shots of you both at the same time.” WHAT HAPPENS IN THE EVENT OF BAD WEATHER – ARE OUR PHOTOS RUINED? Caroline White (https://carolinewhitephotography.co.uk) says: Absolutely not! It’s all about being prepared beforehand with plan A and plan B scenarios. I like to stay positive and manifest good weather. But if plan B does happen then we are ready to go with brollies, and spare shoes to wear temporarily for photographs so your gorgeous wedding footwear isn’t ruined. I’m an expert in gathering your wedding dress so it looks great off the floor as you walk without getting it trashed. Plus, I adore a stormy sky to use with my dramatic lighting. Jessica Bryony (www.jessicabryony.com) says: “Some of the most atmospheric and romantic wedding photos happen in unexpected weather. A good photographer will have the experience to adapt, whether that means using beautiful indoor locations, working with umbrellas and soft lighting, or embracing the drama of the moment. “I always prepare for different weather conditions and if you’re up for it, I also love capturing cinematic, rain-kissed portraits. Think of those incredible, misty, romantic shots with reflections in puddles or the soft glow of light through raindrops.” https://debbiemcgregorphotography.com https://emmahillierphotography.com https://carolinewhitephotography.co.uk PHOTOGRAPHY 39
