SPOTLIGHT ON... East Cheshire Tie the knot in a local hotspot JODRELL BANK CENTRE FOR ENGAGEMENT 0161 306 9695 | www.jodrellbank.net Jodrell Bank, nestled in the heart of the Cheshire countryside is a renowned UNESCO heritage site and visitor attraction connected to space exploration and the history of astronomy. Its iconic Grade I listed Lovell telescope, the third largest radio telescope in the world, has been listening to the skies for more than 65 years and continues to be used to this day. It truly is a location that’s out of this world! Jodrell Bank was originally operated by the Department of Botany at the University of Manchester in the 1940s. Sir Bernard Lovell, who operated the site in the 20th century, was an avid botanist, as well as astrophysicist, meaning the site is now home to an impressive 3,000 specimens of trees and shrubs. These form the Lovell Tree Collection, which opened to the public in 1976. These trees, seeds and plants were gifted to Sir Bernard on many of his visits to space observatories, international universities and space projects around the world making the grounds now full of blossom and spectacular nature all year round. Ceremonies with 100 guests are held in the Space Dome 3D Planetarium, which opened in 2022 and is one of just a handful in the world. You can choose from a range of spectacular moving backdrops taken from the Hubble Telescope to appear during your ceremony, so you can truly be wed beneath the stars. All ceremonies are followed by a one-hour drinks reception in the First Light Pavilion before you head off to your reception. The Star Pavilion sits on the south side of the estate with views of the iconic Lovell Telescope and Cheshire countryside, and is where wedding receptions are hosted. The Wolfson Auditorium is a self-contained conference suite with private facilities for your guests and can accommodate up to 120 for a seated reception. The space is equipped with an AV system for speeches and presentations and boasts a private outdoor patio area for warm summer evenings. You’ll also receive access to The Angle Meeting Room to prepare for your special day. Accommodation wise, the venue is close to a range of options from local historical house properties to local B&Bs and campsites.
