Q&A Fashion & Beauty Look and feel your big-day best with help from the professionals OH, THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS FRIGHTFUL! We’re getting married at Christmas and I really want to be able to get outside for some photographs. What can I wear to keep me warm and complement my gown? Ali Tyrer at Blue & Sixpence (www.blueandsixpence.co.uk) says: There are so many ways to accessorise for your outdoor photos, so don’t assume your only option is a faux-fur wrap – think outside the box. Capes are very popular options. Velvet is both luxurious and warm, and it needn’t match your gown. Maybe you could choose one to complement your colour scheme instead? All sorts of jackets (vintage, customised, modern, borrowed or blue) can set a gown off, too. A nod to the festive season might be your thing. So, how about a seasonally-inspired accessory? I’m thinking something red, trimmed with white, along the lines of Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen’s finale costumes in White Christmas – what could be more fab? Of course, you could go all out and incorporate all sorts of winter warmers into your outdoorsy photo shoot. We’re thinking fur-lined boots, scarves, gloves, wellies, ear-muffs, hand-warmers, or maybe keep those fleece-lined leggings and thermals under wraps beneath your gown? Don’t just think about wearables, perhaps source a fantastic faux-fur rug if you’re in a car or carriage. How about other types of photo opps? Does your venue allow fires outdoors? A firepit can keep the hot coals safely contained while giving off loads of heat, and it looks fantastic. Maybe a more rustic, open fire is more your thing? Just imagine toasting marshmallows on your wedding day. Whatever you choose, we’re sure you’ll look sensational! WINTER WARMER How can I give my make-up look a wintry twist? Cassie McClymont from Cassie M Bridal (www.cassiem.co.uk) says: “My twist on a wintry makeup look would be to use warmer tones when it comes to eyeshadows, blush and lips, just to warm up the face slightly in wintry months when complexions can be paler and the outside weather much darker. Using warmer autumnal tones can look very flattering, and I’m a massive fan of a bold red lip in the winter. It brings a beautiful wintry vibe to a gorgeous bridal look.
