Gavin, who was based in the IT department, was repairing a printer at the time. The two got talking and a few weeks later he asked Jenny on a date. A year after that, they moved in together. In July 2021, when Covid restrictions eased the couple spent a weekend away together in London with a meal booked in The Shard. It was there at sunset that Gavin proposed. He’d pre-warned the staff who were standing by to take photographs and they supplied the pair with complimentary champagne. Jenny said, “Yes,” and they spent the evening drinking cocktails together and looking out over the city. After viewing a number of venues across the North West, Waterfront Southport Hotel stood out thanks to its 180-degree view of the Marine Lake and sea. The fact that it was close to home also helped and many friends and family members decided to make a weekend of it staying Friday through Sunday.
