Your Cheshire and Merseyside Wedding - September/October 2022 (Issue 65)

Q&A Look and feel your big-day best with help from the professionals HEAT TRAP I’m getting married next year and given 2022’s terrifying temperature records, I’m worried about overheating in my gown. What should I be looking for when dress shopping? Heather says: The last thing you want to be is overheating on your wedding day! Quite often brides forget to think about the weather or temperature, which is why visiting a bridal boutique exaclty one year before the big day is a good idea. It will give you a good understanding of the weather, or at the very least, the temperatures you can expect. As for the dress itself, it’s worth knowing what you want to prioritise. If comfort is important, then look for a gown with fewer layers. Chiffon, for example, is a great way of keeping the floating movement of a dress, but is light and breathable. If you have your heart set on a ballgown or princess style, an underskirt or hoop will keep the lining and inner layers of it away from your legs, helping you to keep cool. You’ll feel much more comfortable and it’ll also prevent you tripping over the skirts! Be aware too: sleeves can be hotter than they look. Illusion sleeves can appear to let a breeze through, but in reality they’re very good at trapping the heat next to your skin. Finally, make sure there’s plenty of shade and water available for the both of you, and your guests. Do you have any suggestions on where to start? Hollie says: When it comes to planning your special day, selecting your ideal wedding perfume will not only complete your outfit, it will also remind you of the big day for years to come. Scents are renowned for triggering memories, so what better way to remember your momentous and unforgettable occasion than through a new scent for your big day? You can, of course, choose whichever fragrance you love. But I’d recommend trying a completely new discovery, something you’ve never worn before. This ensures it has no relation to any previous memory and means the new scent will always transport you back to your wedding. You’ll also want a fragrance that will last throughout the day, so opt for an eau de parfum, which has a higher concentration of fragrance oil (around 25 per cent), which typically makes them stronger and longer lasting. Also, look for such notes as patchouli, white musk, sandalwood, tuberose, vetiver, and freesia as these linger on the skin for longer. Check out Lancôme La Via Est Belle, Barbour Female, Carolina Herrera Good Girl Supreme, Jennifer Lopez Promise, Ghost Orb Of Night and Estée Lauder Beautiful – all great bridal fragrances. Alternatively, if you’re struggling to find the perfect scent match, flirt before you buy with The Fragrance Shop scentaddict subscription, and choose a new 8ml fragrance each month for £12. They’re also perfect to carry with you on the big day. 100
