METALLICS When it comes to bridal make-up is it best to go with mattes or metallics, or do both have their merits? Jane says: I frequently get asked this question and I always say that both have their place. Matte foundation provides a full coverage, which is ideal for extra concealment or if your skin is exceptionally oily. On the other hand, dewy foundations are generally the preferred option. Created with natural oils and humectants they leave behind a flawless looking skin that’s well moisturised, glowy and reflects the light. It’s perfect for more mature skin, as it reduces the appearance of fine lines and brings radiance to the complexion. Concealers though should be light reflective rather than matte, reducing the appearance of dark circles under the eye without looking heavy or cakey. When it comes to the eyes, matte eyeshadows offer one of the best bridal make-up looks, as these tones bring a depth of colour and definition. They effectively absorb excess oil from the skin and are great for high summer, boho or a beach make-up vibe. These shades also reshape and redeine older eyes, reducing the attraction to any fine lines. Having said that, light, shimmery shadows also have their place. They emphasise the centre of the eye drawing attention to the iris and making them pop. Shimmer alone is not recommended though, especially on more mature skin. Steer clear of anything with full glitter and sparkle, as this effect reflects back to the camera especially indoors. Keep these for Christmas parties and hen weekends only! Similarly, both shimmer and matte bronzers have a place. Shimmery bronzers contain light-reflecting particles giving the skin a glowing, sunkissed look, but do use it sparingly. Matte bronzers, meanwhile, warm up the skin and you can also use them for contouring and shaping the face. Finally, avoid full shimmer on the lips if you have more mature skin. Matte or light gloss works best and is longer lasting. BRING BACK SPRING What make-up look would you suggest for an English country garden style springtime wedding? Gillian says: This style of wedding calls for a fresh, romantic face of make-up allowing the bride to shine like that spring ray of sunshine she’ll hopefully enjoy on her special day. Spring is the perfect setting for a minimalist, natural make-up with a bridal glow. Highlighter is the key to achieving this glowing skin paired with subtle eyeshadow and finally, finishing with a nude lip for a flawless face that’s exquisitely fresh or the time of year. To add a hint of romance, simply add a rosy pink blush to the cheeks and eyes lids with a berry lip finished with a touch of gloss. This is stunning paired with a daytime, outdoor wedding, combined with a beautiful weather and blooming flowers. Spring is the ideal season for an al fresco garden wedding.
