Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding launched with issue 1 in October 2007 more than 16 years ago. I managed to find an early issue in the archives and dusted it off to discover that bridal fashion had more in common with the 1990s than with the 2020s. Designs were all about taffeta, boned bodices and bags of embellishment – words I hardly hear these days in relation to wedding dresses. What’s more, it was rare indeed to see a groom not sporting a cravat and cummerbund. Today you’d be hard pushed to find such relics, let alone someone who wants to wear them! Happily though, we’ve brought things right up to date for issue 100 and bring you 12 whole pages of 2024 bridal collections fresh from the runway, I guarantee it’s not to be missed! Wedding trends may have been vastly different then, but what remains unaltered is the dedicated industry of incredible local wedding suppliers who never fail to go above and beyond in bringing their couples’ wedding dreams to life. Without these talented folk Your Bristol & Somerset Wedding certainly wouldn’t be here 100 issues later. So, as we celebrate our success, now’s the time to offer them a huge heartfelt thank you for their continued support and crucially their valued words of wisdom over the years. Of course, to you our lovely readers, we also owe a world of thanks. If you didn’t turn to us every issue for your regular dose of planning help, we’d be talking to ourselves! Our account manager Leah and I are incredibly proud to have taken our place at the helm of this wonderful title and very much look forward to the future as we continue to bring you the very best Bristol and Somerset has to offer for your big day. So, here’s to the next 100 issues! Kelly Andrews, editor Happy birthday to us! Radhika and Shindy had already secured the South West regional title for Best Wedding Planner, and accepted the honour in tribute to Radhika’s late mum, Versha. The business launched in 2015 after staging an event in Bristol to help young Asians celebrate Diwali in the city. What began with them providing a community-focused event has led them to global expansion, catering for couples getting married in high-end ceremonies not only in the UK, but as far afield as Greece, Italy, France and Canary Islands. Radhika says, “To have won this title this title this year really is everything. My mum was so excited that we were building our own business in our own way, so this is a great tribute to her.” There were a record number of entries to this year’s awards. On making their decision, the judges looked at both testimonials from previous clients, as well as how each business is presented both online by their website and on their social media channels. SPARKFORD HALL 07973 837 820 | www.sparkfordhall.co.uk Sparkford Hall, a grand Georgian mansion set in secluded grounds is shared only with a pair of tame llamas, a few tiny ponies and a brace of ducks. It makes for an incredible location for weddings with the freedom and creativity to make it yours. The Grade II listed house and grounds can be entirely yours for the day, weekend or whole week. Having a wedding here is rather like having a wedding at your own house. The place is yours to do with as you wish (within some boundaries of course) and you can create your day exactly as you envision it. The stunning grounds feature rolling parkland, a walled garden, paddocks and an apple orchard with ample photo opportunities. The Main Hall is an open, relaxed reception room and dining area for the house. If required, the dining area can be removed, which opens the room up further. You also have the option to erect a marquee leading off of the Main Hall to create a much larger dining and function area for up to 250 guests. The venue can even offer all-night dancing in the cellar! The Library is a cosy room with an open fire, ideal for winter weddings. It is licensed for small ceremonies with up to 25 guests. Right in the centre of the main building, the Gallery is a great space to welcome guests, serve drinks, or offer the chance to mingle. There’s a sweeping staircase perfect for memorable photos and it’s a great space for speeches. It also has a built-in bar area at your disposal. Sparkford Hall is decorated in keeping with the period of the house with some modern twists. There are a total of 15 bedrooms sleeping up to 36, all rooms are doubles but both the Hall and the Gardener’s Cottage include a dorm-style room. As well as a number of local hotels and B&Bs, the venue can offer other accommodation options including camping and glamping. Guests can bring their own tents or the team can supply fully made up glamping bell tents in the orchard where there are separate facilities for campers. The beautiful gardens are a mixture of formal and parkland offering colour throughout the seasons. The main drive is flanked with mature limes and there’s a remarkable avenue of pleached limes on the south lawn. On your big day, either stroll to the local church, St John’s, or have a celebrant conduct a bespoke ceremony at The Grange tailored just for you. The festivities then continue with a wedding breakfast in the Orangery with 50 of your loved ones. The capacity can be extended to 80 with a marquee attached. This too can be used as a celebrant-led ceremony space seating the same numbers. The Dining Room can seat 22 nearest and dearest, perfect for a rehearsal dinner. This history of the building is just as much tied up with the vision of its proprietors, and Montigo Resorts, now at the helm, is working hard to take the venue to even greater heights. The Orangery boasts spectacularly grand iron window frames and as such it makes a fine backdrop for all parts of your wedding day. Meanwhile, TIIGO provides a welcome air of informality for barbecues and hog roasts, while the bright and botanical conservatory represents a strong choice for the wedding breakfast. The team would love nothing more than to lay on a feast for you guests, which maximises the immense potential of locallysourced ingredients. Just give them a sense of the direction you’d like to take and they’ll take the reins. Best known for their modern European fare, the team are happy to try their hand at anything from Asian fusion dishes to flame grilled meat and seafood.
