Meet Little Charlie, a beautifully restored Nissan Figaro available for weddings and styled bridal moments. This rare, design-led vintage car offers something visually striking with its soft vintage curves, pastel tones, and unmistakable character. As weddings move towards more experience-led and personalised styling, couples are increasingly looking for unique touches that reflect their personalities. Little Charlie offers not just transport, but a statement piece that elevates the aesthetic of a wedding day. facebook.com/people/ Little-Charlie-TheFigaro/61594034938874 NEWS Nearlywed Editor loves THE RISE OF SELF-CATERED WEDDINGS Self-catered weddings, once seen as unconventional, are becoming an increasingly popular budget-friendly option. Whether it’s enlisting the help of loved ones, hiring street food vendors, or carefully curating their own menus, couples are finding creative ways to make the experience feel more personal without overspending. While this approach offers greater freedom, it also brings practical considerations, especially when it comes to safely storing and serving food and drink for a large number of guests. Experts at Buckinghamshire-based Cool Running Trailers, the refrigerated trailer rental experts, suggest these small tweaks to make self-catering easier for couples: *Buy in bulk where you can - wholesale retailers or cash-and-carry shops can work out much cheaper for things like drinks, snacks and ingredients. *Limit the menu options - it might feel generous to offer plenty of choice, but keeping it focused actually saves money and reduces waste. *Avoid over-ordering - it’s easy to purchase too much ‘just incase’ but having a headcount and sticking to it helps avoid unnecessary spending. *Hire a refrigerated trailer - if you’re wanting to provide your own food, getting it to the wedding venue can be an added stress. Proper storage means food lasts longer and doesn’t spoil, which helps avoid throwing money away on wasted ingredients or drinks. *Think about timing – a later ceremony or shorter reception can reduce how much food you need to provide overall. coolrunningtrailers.co.uk/trailer-hire/ refrigerated-trailer-hire Read more on yourberksbucksoxon.wedding Burrow Farm Estate offers exclusive country celebrations Burrow Farm Estate in Buckinghamshire has expanded its wedding offering by launching individual property bookings for the first time, alongside exclusive-use hire. Hickory’s Smokehouse has announced plans to transform the former Crooked Billet on Uxbridge Road into its newest smokehouse, with the restaurant expected to open in Spring 2027. Founded in Chester in 2010 after a road trip, Hickory’s has spent more than 15 years perfecting the art of low ‘n’ slow cooking and introducing guests across the UK to the food, culture and warm hospitality of Tennessee, Texas and beyond. Guests can expect cosy booths, live sport and a chef’s bar offering a front-row seat to the theatre of the kitchen, where Hickory’s Pitmasters will be smoking, grilling and serving up authentic barbecue. John Welsh from Hickory’s Smokehouse said: “We’re absolutely fired up to be bringing Hickory’s to Iver! Hickory’s began with a road trip and a passion for the food and hospitality of America’s Southern States. More than 15 years later, we’re still just as obsessed with authentic barbecue and giving every guest a genuinely warm Southern welcome.” John adds, “We can’t wait to get the smokers fired up, become part of the local community for many years to come and swing open the doors in Spring 2027.” Read more on yourberksbucksoxon.wedding Colour Analysis has moved to Maidenhead! Pure elegance Tamsin and Ed’s special day was hosted at Kirtlington Park, which was decorated with a simple, timeless theme Images courtesy of Emma-Jane Photography Tamsin and Ed both studied in Oxford, so this iconic city was a natural choice for their wedding day. “After viewing many stately houses, Kirtlington Park ticked all of the boxes,” they tell us. “It offered on-site accommodation and the most stunning function rooms.” The couple chose a simple and elegant wedding theme with a minimal colour palette. “We had pastel pink for the bridesmaids’ dresses and green floral varieties, making use of local suppliers,” they tell us. “We were both away for work and in different countries for most of the wedding planning, so it was great to be able to rely on our chosen suppliers to help bring our dream vision to life. The talented team at the venue and the catering firm, Greens Catering, took on a good amount of the logistics.” Tamsin and Ed chose canapés and a three-course wedding breakfast followed by a wedding cake of cheese decorated with fresh figs and strawberries. “We had welcome drinks after our ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral before departing by bus for our reception at Kirtlington Park,” Tamsin explains. “Ed’s father gave a wonderful speech before the wedding breakfast.” Tamsin wore the wedding gown called Arcada by Milla Nova, a full-length, A-line style with a straight neckline and a draped waist flowing into a full skirt with a side split and train. “I changed into a stylish short dress during the evening,” she tells us. “Ed wore his military attire, and our groomsmen wore blue suits in varying shades. Our bridesmaids looked stunning in their pastel pink dresses in different styles to suit them.” REAL WEDDINGS 19

A black-tie affair Hannah and Tom’s summer wedding took place at Rhodes House in Oxford Images courtesy of Barker Evans 24

REAL WEDDINGS 25

Hannah and Tom met at Blenheim Palace where they both walked their dogs. “Tom proposed during a trip to Diamond Beach and Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon on the final day of a holiday exploring Iceland,” Hannah tells us. “It’s one of the best winter destinations I’ve ever been to. After he asked me to marry him, we watched a beautiful sunrise and spent time on the beach capturing special photographs we still love now. We ended the evening with dinner, a bottle of Moët & Chandon and watching the Northern Lights before flying home the next day.” The couple loved the traditional character of the Oxford-based wedding venue Rhodes House mixed with contemporary touches. “The spiral staircase and glass pavilion set within the award-winning gardens are stunning,” Hannah tells us. “The McCall MacBain Hall is striking, and as soon as we saw it, we knew we wanted to walk down the aisle there. I am from Oxford, and Tom is from Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds, so we wanted a central location in a beautiful city with plenty of on-site bedrooms to accommodate guests travelling from as far as Australia and Denmark. Oxford provided the excellent network connections we needed.” The couple were originally going to get married at Villa Antiche Mura in Sorrento and loved the idea of an Italian wedding because Hannah’s side of the family has ancestry links to the country. “Both of our dads were diagnosed with the same cancer within the same year, and we realised that life was short, and if we wanted everybody to be there then we needed to get married that summer,” Hannah tells us. “We chose to bring an Italian theme to Rhodes House and got married with just nine weeks to plan it! Luckily the bank holiday date we wanted was available due to a cancellation.” The couple had a live pianist perform while their guests were being seated. “During the ceremony, my friend Jelani Munroe sang alongside the pianist,” Hannah tells us. “He performed a beautiful rendition of Ave Maria just before I walked down the aisle, followed by If I Ain’t Got You by Alicia Keys whilst we were signing the paperwork - it made many of our guests cry.” Hannah and Tom kept their flowers and décor neutral, showcasing the beauty of the venue. “We got married under a magnificent chandelier,” Hannah tells us. “I took advice from our florist, Joanna Carter, as to what would work best for the room, and she changed the ideas of what I originally thought I wanted. She takes so much pride and care in her work, and we repurposed many of the “I loved our one-year-old son being the ring bearer, and the fact that our daughter was inside my tummy on our wedding day.” - Hannah 26

flowers. The bud vases used for the ceremony were then placed on the dinner tables, and the urns and plinths raised for the ceremony were lowered to table level, holding cascading arrangements of flowers at dinner. We also reused the bridesmaids’ bouquets on the registration table. I’ve worked with plenty of florists, and I knew I only wanted Joanna Carter to be in charge of our wedding flowers.” Guests enjoyed a garden drinks reception with a live acoustic set, and canapés that included red pepper tapenade bruschetta, beef meatballs with tomato and parmesan, truffle and parmesan arancini and roast prawns with puttanesca salsa. “Aperol Spritz cocktails, prosecco, beer and sparkling elderflower were served,” Hannah tells us. “Our wedding breakfast was delicious – we still get guests commenting even now on how excellent it was. The starter was Serrano ham with grilled stone fruit, burrata, herbs, gremolata and pine nuts. The main course was a choice of beef, pork and veal lasagne or spinach and ricotta cannelloni. This was served with rocket parmesan, radish and lemon salad or marinated heritage tomato salad with basil pesto, triple-cooked chips and chilli and garlic tenderstem broccoli. Dessert was the traditional Italian Millefoglie with berries and fruit, which we deconstructed in front of our guests - I have no idea how my dress survived Tom squirting raspberry coulis at me!” The couple chose the Italian Zensa Primitivo and German Anheuser Blanc de Noir wine varieties. “We also enjoyed Baby Guinness shots after our speeches as a nod to Tom’s late father, who passed away the week before our wedding,” Hannah tells us. There was a black-tie dress code for the gentlemen, and a De Rigueur Milliner theme for the ladies. Hannah wore a dress from MWL Bride purchased from The White Collection. “I had always known I wanted to wear a MWL wedding dress as I adore the designs and style more than any other designer,” she tells us. “In the end, I chose a beautiful custom-made version of the Remi-Louie style teamed with a stunning cathedral-length veil and a pair of slingback bridal shoes.” Tom wore a smart tuxedo and an Omega Seamaster watch, and his groomsmen wore matching tuxedos. “Our bridesmaids looked great in their champagne-coloured satin dresses, and the flowergirls and pageboy outfits were handmade by my MWL,” Hannah says. The evening entertainment was the live band COOL performing, along with garden games for everyone to enjoy. Top tip:“Discuss your vision with your chosen suppliers and make everything you want clear from the start. The end OF PERFECT We explore how couples are falling out of love with perfection and choosing documentary wedding photography For more than a decade, as social media grew in popularity and became increasingly ingrained in our lives, so too did the desire for polished, Insta-worthy wedding shots. The ultimate goal was to secure images that belonged on the front cover of a luxury magazine. But rather than choosing between polished portraits and authentic moments, today’s couples increasingly want both. They’re looking for photographers who’ll capture their wedding day as it unfolds, rather than a series of carefully staged moments. The rise of documentary photography reflects a need for authenticity and presence, going hand-in-hand with the trend for ultra-personalised big days. Today, the perfect wedding album might include a tear-streaked face, hilarity on the dance floor or the youngest guests running with abandon through the venue’s grounds. FROM PINTEREST TO PRESENCE Social media and its resulting habit of doom-scrolling has caused many to reach the point of perfection fatigue. Today’s couples have grown up exposed to an endless parade of highly curated content from lifestyle to fashion, and of course weddings. Whereas the previous generation might have envisioned their wedding day in the form of scrapbooks, sketches and marked-up magazines, Gen Z-ers naturally gravitate to Pinterest, Instagram and TikTok for their wedspiration. After years spent in the pursuit of perfection, perhaps the pandemic and months spent in isolation reminded us of what matters most. When the wedding industry emerged from lockdown, the trend for more intimate, meaningful wedding days quickly became prevalent, and in the years that followed, this beating heart has remained even though we’re seeing guest numbers begin to grow once more. To reflect these personalised celebrations, there’s a growing demand for photography that showcases candid storytelling, genuine emotion and real moments. A recurring theme we see among our real wedding couples is that many have no desire to spend the moments following their ceremony posing for the camera with an endless parade of carefully planned guest groups. No, they’re far keener to get the party started, and why not? With a documentary photographer at the helm, there’s no need to fear a lack of captured memories of your nearest and dearest. Seeing themselves more as observers, they shoot moments of you and your guests as they unfold. It’s their job to be in the right place at the right time, with the camera pointing in the unsplash.com@jakobowens 30

right direction, to capture every sign of emotion from the key highlights to the intimate moments you missed on the day. All the while, you’re free to be fully present and experience the allimportant day. For many, these are the images that pack the biggest emotional punch, immortalising genuine reactions in a moment that’s fleeting. They’re the ones you’ll look back at in years to come with a genuine smile on your face, not necessarily the ones where you’re all grinning stiffly for the camera. THERE’S BEAUTY IN REALITY Capturing reality doesn’t mean ugly photos! Today’s couples want authenticity that’s beautiful. Documentary photography is a skill, carefully honed over many years and many weddings. It’s knowing where to be at precisely the right moment, shooting it in a split second, and delivering a resulting image that’s as stunning as it is raw. These photographers are truly talented folk. One of the most interesting contradictions in all of this is that documentary photography is often carefully crafted to look effortless. Most documentary photographers today find themselves in demand for full day coverage, with only a short spell during the drinks reception spent on an editorial-style couple shoot. Formal group shots are almost entirely out. So, the resulting album offers the perfect blend of stunning luxury couple images, ready for the wall, along with a story of the day as it unfolded. TECH TROUBLES While technology in the form of social media undoubtedly played its part in the pursuit of perfection, it also influenced “The perfect wedding album might include a tear-streaked face, hilarity on the dance floor...” unsplash.com@genessapana unsplash.com@3tnik unsplash.com@victoriapriessnitz unsplash.com@victoriapriessnitz unsplash.com@timscreate PHOTOGRAPHY 31

photographers in the way they work. Digital photography and editing software mean they have far more flexibility to craft that picture-perfection. With virtually unlimited storage, they can simply keep snapping until they get the one. In the past with film, flash photography and disposable cameras, there was no such luxury – in the words of Eminem, you only get one shot. Full wedding galleries might consist of 50 images rather than today’s standard of 700 to 900 images. Many modern photographers are choosing to go back to the good old days and offer their couples the option to have part of their gallery captured on film. After all, it’s a format that naturally feels emotionally honest, resembling family memories rather than slick professionalism. THE DEMAND FOR CONTENT Content creators seemingly emerged from nowhere over the past couple of years to become a must-have wedding extra. This speaks not only to the continued importance of social media in people’s lives, but also to the need for a much more informal approach. It shows how important wedding photography is, as couples are no longer prepared to wait months for a glimpse of their professional images. They want to relive every moment the very next day, and content creators offer just that. What’s more, they lean into the desire of couples to truly be present on their big day, extending this gesture to their nearest and dearest. With a content creator on hand, there’s no need for bridesmaids and groomsmen to spend the day trapped behind their smartphones. They get to be the subjects rather than the photographers. Content creators were never intended to replace the need for a professional wedding photographer though. While professional photographers remain responsible for creating timeless images to treasure for decades to come, content creators offer something different: instant access to the atmosphere, excitement and behind-the-scenes moments of the day. Perhaps the greatest sign of changing priorities is that couples no longer want wedding photographs that simply show how the day looked. They want images that remind them how it felt. Remember, the new luxury is looking unposed! DOCUMENTARY DEFINED ‘Documentary’ is not so much a description of the visual style but rather the approach. Instead of herding guests and directing shots, your photographer will quietly observe and anticipate, making them much less intrusive by nature. Many have told us their aim is for their couples to forget they’re even there. Where traditional wedding photography focuses on planned moments, formal portraits, and perfect compositions led by the photographer, the documentary style is all about spontaneity, storytelling, and authenticity where the photographer follows. “Many have told us their aim is for their couples to forget they’re even there.” unsplash.com@victoriapriessnitz unsplash.com@pedropulidophotography 32

She can perform as guests gather for the ceremony, followed by a couple of entrance pieces. “This is unique to each wedding, depending on whether both halves of the couple want to make an entrance, how many are in the bridal party and whether there is a long walk to get to the registrar,” she tells us. Alison can also play during the drinks reception and the wedding breakfast, and sometimes she is requested to perform for those parts and not the ceremony. “In the last few years, several couples have asked me to play their first dance track, before the DJ or band,” she says. “As a singer and harpist, I can sing all or some of the music, or do everything instrumentally – the couples get to choose the music played. I created a database called The Harpinator, where each couple has their own private portal on my website and selects their music choices. Requests this year include Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper, the Pokémon theme and Modern Love by John Lunn.” Alison enjoys dressing up to fit with the wedding theme, whether it’s a gothic look or a viking vibe. “With Halloween and Christmas coming up, I will be busy playing music from the films Corpse Bride and The Nightmare Before Christmas,” she says. When it comes to advising newly engaged couples about booking their big-day music, Alison advises them to talk about what they do and don’t like. “At wedding shows, I ask visitors what their favourite music is, so get prepared for that question. You may want to ask this question of your loved ones, too.” facebook.com/WeddingHarpSong instagram.com/aelvenharp Your wedding, your music, your choice

We can deliver to anywhere in the UK, but mainly cover Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, and the surrounding counties.” When it comes to advice for engaged couples booking styling items, Lorna suggests checking what’s included once the venue is booked. She says, “Consider hiring items if you require more, or something different. If possible, secure your date with a hire company at least 12 months in advance, especially for the peak summer season. Once your caterer has been chosen, discuss your cutlery, china and glassware options with them.” Rather than following one particular wedding style, Lorna reveals how trends are pointing towards celebrations that feel deeply personal, immersive and unforgettable, reflecting the couple getting married. “Weddings are becoming less about tradition and more about telling the couple’s story, with less pressure to get it right,” she tells us. “Couples are moving towards keeping the traditions they love and ignoring the ones that mean nothing to them. Wedding weekends are becoming popular too, with couples increasingly wanting more time with their guests, rather than having a few hurried hours, with the day passing by far too quickly. Couples are choosing a slower, more sociable style of celebration.” When it comes to colour themes, Lorna is seeing change after years of sage green and neutral shades being popular. “Colour requests that we’re seeing for 2027 include yellow, apricot, peach, olive green, burgundy and earthy clay tones,” she says. “Rather than matching everything perfectly, couples are embracing layered shades that feel relaxed, natural and full of character, to introduce warmth and personality.” milliemiles.co.uk instagram.com/milliemileseventhire Your day, your way samsparksweddings.co.uk instagram.com/adamhudsonphoto
