Darcy and Zak met in 2014 when they both worked for Microsoft in Michigan, USA. “We were friends until we both moved to Seattle for our careers, where we started dating,“ Darcy tells us. Zak proposed during a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona, in December 2024. “He had planned a hike for us, and I had a suspicion he might ask me to marry him,” Darcy says. “When we returned to the hotel, I was surprised by rose petals, champagne and chocolates in the room, which is where he ended up proposing.” Darcy and Zak wanted an intimate destination wedding. “I had previously spent a summer working in London and fell in love with the UK,” Darcy tells us. “During a joint trip to Oxford, we enjoyed a tour of the Bodleian Libraries University of Oxford, where we adored the stunning architecture and the rich history of the city. When we found out they had availability in the month we wanted to hold our wedding, it felt like fate.” Darcy’s uncle was the celebrant for the couple’s ceremony, and he gave a moving speech before the vows. “He spoke about his marriage to my aunt, who passed away unexpectedly when I was young,” Darcy explains. “It was a nice way to have her with us in spirit on the day. During dinner, our friend Tim gave a speech which perfectly captured us as individuals and as a couple.” The couple wanted a theme to complement the aesthetic of the Bodleian Libraries University of Oxford. “We chose a black and white colour palette, with green and gold accents to add a natural feel,” Darcy explains. “Most of our stationery 32
