With spring around the corner, the next significant date in the diary for weddings is Easter. For those of you putting the finishing touches to a late spring or summer celebration this year, this issue is packed full of inspiration. If you’ve just started your wedding planning journey – maybe you became engaged on Valentine’s Day – then take a look at what real-life wedding couples are choosing. There are also ideas for micro intimate weddings, big-day photography tips and tricks, plus all the latest W-day news. There’s also beautiful bridal fashion, new beauty updates, fashion ideas for grooms and dreamy honeymoon destinations – I was lucky enough to jet off to Sardinia to visit two Delphina hotels and resorts, so read my review on page 78. Photographer Annabel Farley reveals advice for getting married during the FIFA World Cup 2026 Anyone planning a summer wedding this year will know that another big celebration is happening – the FIFA World Cup 2026, running from June to July during the peak wedding season. Berkshire-based wedding photographer Annabel Farley is experienced in photographing weddings during major sporting events, having worked at previous World Cups, Euros, and Wimbledon finals. She has some advice for couples to help them enjoy their day and keep their guests happy. Annabel says, “A wedding during the World Cup can be relaxed, joyful, and beautifully photographed - with a little planning. First things first: don’t panic! This is the most important thing I tell couples. Most guests will be there to celebrate you and happily miss a match for a wedding or appreciate a thoughtful plan if a big game clashes.” Annabel adds, “From a photographer’s point of view, weddings during the World Cup are often more fun, social, and memorable than couples expect.” annabelfarleyphotography.co.uk Venue Henley has launched its new Sunday carvery at the Henley Business School once a month. Henley Festival 2026, presented by Hemani, will return to the beautiful riverside in Henley-on-Thames for five magical summer nights from Wednesday 8th July to Sunday 12th July 2026. Hemani’s sponsorship includes the festival’s charitable programme RISE, nurturing the next generation of talent. Joe Hemani, Chairman of Hemani, said: “I have been a great supporter of Henley Festival for more than 25 years, and I am thrilled that Hemani will not only be the headline sponsor for the spectacular 2026 edition of the festival, but also help ensure that its charitable programme – RISE – remains at the very heart of this unmissable event.” Jo Bausor, CEO of Henley Festival, said: “Henley Festival is both incredibly lucky and deeply grateful to have had the invaluable counsel and support of Joe Hemani for so many years. Thank you to Joe and Hemani for all that you have done for Henley Festival, and the countdown is now on until we reveal the magical line-up for 2026!’ Tickets are on sale in February, henley-festival.co.uk THE THREE GUINEAS OFFERS MIDWEEK AND OFF-PEAK WEDDING PROSECCO Berkshire-based The Three Guineas, a Fuller’s pub, is a historic Grade II-listed building that was the original entrance to Reading station. The team has seen a growing demand for smaller, more intimate weddings, which are a natural fit for the property. The licensed private room is ideal for ceremonies of between 50 and 60 guests, and lends itself to couples wanting a relaxed, stylish space rather than a large-scale venue. Being located next to the station makes it an attractive choice for those who have wedding guests travelling to the town, and allows couples to host their ceremony, drinks reception and wedding breakfast in one place, keeping the day seamless and free from stress. Because the venue is popular with micro weddings, second marriages and modern couples who want something personal, the team are currently offering a complimentary prosecco reception for customers booking midweek or off-peak weddings, adding value to the day without compromising on the overall experience. three-guineas.co.uk 8

ENCHANTED DAY An Amy and Julian’s September celebration enjoyed the beautiful backdrop of The Olde Bell in Hurley, Berkshire Images courtesy of Stone Photos Amy and Julian first crossed paths at Stellenbosch University in Cape Town back in 2014. “My halls of residence hosted an 80s-themed dance where each student had to bring a date,” Amy tells us. “I invited Julian, who was a close friend of my brother and who had offered to show me around when I first viewed the university and the rest, as they say, is history.” Julian proposed in August 2019, just outside Split in Croatia. “We visited a quaint village where Julian asked me to marry him at sunset, overlooking the ocean,” Amy says. The couple were legally married in a civil ceremony in February 2020, with the plan to have a large wedding celebration in South Africa a few months later. “We could never have predicted a global lockdown, so our celebration in South Africa never happened,” Amy explains. “Although we were officially married, we never had the chance to share that moment with our friends and family, so we hosted a five-year wedding celebration in the UK. Each year of marriage has a traditional material, and the fifth year is wood. When we saw The Olde Bell’s barn with its beautiful wooden beams, it felt like the perfect symbol of five years of marriage - and the ideal place to finally celebrate with everyone we love.” One piece of advice that the couple’s married friends gave them was to have a close friend or relation to act as their celebrant - someone who truly knows them and their relationship. “This ended up being one of the best decisions we made,” Amy tells us. “Having one of our closest friends lead our ceremony and vow renewal made the moment incredibly personal, meaningful, and memorable. It felt intimate and genuine, and it was a highlight not only for us, but for everyone who was there.” The couple’s theme was bringing the outdoors in with colour, greenery, flowers, candles and lanterns, creating a wonderful ambience and atmosphere. “We set two long banquette tables dressed with cascading greenery, soft white flowers, glowing lanterns and candles running the entire length of the tables,” Amy tells us. “It looked exactly like the enchanted setting that we both wanted to achieve.” The team at The Olde Bell did a wonderful job with the catering. “We had canapés to start, followed by a delicious three-course wedding breakfast,” Amy tells us. “During the evening, our guests enjoyed egg and bacon butties.” Amy wore a dress by House of Savin purchased from White Lace & Butterflies Bridal Boutique in Great Missenden, South Buckinghamshire. “I knew from the start that I didn’t want to wear white because it was our five-year wedding celebration, so I wanted something that reflected that,” Amy tells us. “After visiting multiple bridal boutiques and not finding anything that felt right, my best friends discovered White Lace & Butterflies Bridal Boutique. As soon as I saw their House of Savin collection, I had a good feeling, so I secured a last-minute appointment and instantly gravitated towards one dress. The moment I tried it on, we all knew it was the one!” Julian looked great in a black double-breasted tuxedo, and the bridal party wore what they wanted. “We wanted them to feel comfortable and enjoy the party as our closest and best people!” To entertain their guests, Amy and Julian had an open bar and a great DJ. “We had guests who had travelled from across the world, as far as New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and the USA to be there to celebrate with us, so we wanted to ensure they had the best time,” Amy tells us. “It was important for us to have a great party with good music!” REAL WEDDINGS 25

Greetings from Oxford Darcy and Zak enjoyed an October wedding at the Bodleian Libraries University of Oxford Images courtesy of Suzy Elizabeth Photography REAL WEDDINGS 31
Darcy and Zak met in 2014 when they both worked for Microsoft in Michigan, USA. “We were friends until we both moved to Seattle for our careers, where we started dating,“ Darcy tells us. Zak proposed during a trip to Scottsdale, Arizona, in December 2024. “He had planned a hike for us, and I had a suspicion he might ask me to marry him,” Darcy says. “When we returned to the hotel, I was surprised by rose petals, champagne and chocolates in the room, which is where he ended up proposing.” Darcy and Zak wanted an intimate destination wedding. “I had previously spent a summer working in London and fell in love with the UK,” Darcy tells us. “During a joint trip to Oxford, we enjoyed a tour of the Bodleian Libraries University of Oxford, where we adored the stunning architecture and the rich history of the city. When we found out they had availability in the month we wanted to hold our wedding, it felt like fate.” Darcy’s uncle was the celebrant for the couple’s ceremony, and he gave a moving speech before the vows. “He spoke about his marriage to my aunt, who passed away unexpectedly when I was young,” Darcy explains. “It was a nice way to have her with us in spirit on the day. During dinner, our friend Tim gave a speech which perfectly captured us as individuals and as a couple.” The couple wanted a theme to complement the aesthetic of the Bodleian Libraries University of Oxford. “We chose a black and white colour palette, with green and gold accents to add a natural feel,” Darcy explains. “Most of our stationery 32
was classic and refined, and to continue with the natural element, we opted for tree-like centrepieces rather than large floral displays. For our ceremony, we had several floral arrangements that combined elegant greenery with various white flower varieties.” The couple and their guests tucked into delicious dining courtesy of Oxford Fine Dining. “Everyone enjoyed canapés during cocktail hour and dishes of tomato, pesto and cheese soufflé; beef wellington or salmon,” Darcy says. “For dessert, we had a dulce de leche cheesecake, which was the best I’ve tasted in my life. We also had a small but beautiful cake with red velvet and Biscoff layers.” Darcy wore the Fortune Marie gown by Maggie Sottero. “When I tried it on, it was the first time I felt like a bride,” she says. “It was also very suited to our venue choice. Zak complemented my dress by wearing a tuxedo.” To entertain their guests who had flown in especially from the USA, Darcy and Zak had a string quartet. “We are movie fans, so the quartet put together an arrangement for us of different movie soundtracks, which was a huge hit with our guests,” Darcy tells us. “After dinner, we had a DJ who kept the party going throughout the night.” REAL WEDDINGS 33

Smile for Strike a pose with confidence on your wedding day THE CAMERA All images courtesy of unsplash.com Ensure you book a wedding photographer with whom you both get along well and share a good rapport. A good way of knowing this is to book a pre-wedding engagement shoot. If you’re planning an engagement shoot, you’ll decide on a location together with your photographer. Decide whether to book a full-day photography session from the bridal preparation to the first dance, or a shorter session that may end after the speeches. Trust your photographer, they are a professional after all. If you can’t afford, or don’t want, an engagement shoot, then ask to meet them face-to-face before your wedding. You want your chosen photographer to be familiar with you on the day, one who can help and capture some incredible memorable moments! Brief your photographer to keep an eye out for and capture those intimate, often unseen moments on your big day. There are many elements to planning a wedding, from deciding on the dress and venue to the flowers, cake and entertainment. After booking the venue, the photographer should be at the top of the list to research. Your wedding day will pass quickly, and the photos will provide a lasting reminder of the day, so you’ll want them to reflect the love, joy and happiness from the celebration. Check how your photographer will deliver the final images, whether it be on a USB stick, in an album or emailed as a gallery. If you’re having getting-ready photographs taken, pick a spacious suite that offers plenty of natural daylight and open any curtains or blinds. Always make sure the background of the room looks neat. Sit facing towards the window during the hair and make-up session on the morning of the wedding so that your face is lit by natural light. PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY 43
All images courtesy of unsplash.com A good wedding photographer won’t be noticeable all of the time because they will be busy capturing you and your guests looking happy and relaxed. Often, couples become friends with their wedding photographer who goes on to photograph newborns, pets or extended family members. A professional photographer can empathise with the diversity of family relationships. Weddings are so unique, and so are families. Brief your photographer if there are people you do or don’t wish to be photographed together. Don’t forget to apply make-up touch-ups on the day! It’s important to have the portrait pictures and family images, along with those of the venue, styled for the occasion. Gather family members in smaller groups, be organised in advance and communicate with your photographer who you’d like in the images. If you want your wedding dress, bridal shoes, bouquets and buttonholes photographed, put these together with any other details you might like captured, such as jewellery and perfume bottles. Replace any metal hangers with cute fabric ones, which will appear nicer in the shots. Do your research and show your chosen photographer inspiration about the types of photos you want to achieve from your wedding. For example, there may be a particular look you want to re-create, or a mix of formal, informal and creative images. If you’re planning on having confetti thrown at your wedding, and you’ve checked that the venue allows it, then let your photographer know in advance because they can arrange guests efficiently after the ceremony. Always allow time in the day for your wedding photography, especially between the ceremony and wedding breakfast, when the majority of the images from the confetti shot to the family photographs and couple portraits are taken. Why not practise a few poses in front of a mirror before your wedding? When the big day arrives, you’ll feel confident in knowing how you look! Always ask for a couple of photographs of all your guests gathered together – it makes for a wonderful memory! For those who are camera-shy, book a photographer who offers a laid-back style specialising in natural images. That way, you won’t have to pose all day! 44

Love behind the lens The benefits of booking a videographer Music is vital in making a great wedding film. Enquire whether the videographer you wish to book has the copyright for the songs you might want. Many have this – but it’s good to be sure before your wedding video goes on social media! The sounds of the day are key in being able to relive your special day, for example, the father-of-the-bride giving a speech, or your mum giving you some marriage advice. Drones create impressive footage, but check regulations with your venue. If you decide to book both a wedding photographer and a videographer, consider choosing professionals who have different styles. That way, the video won’t duplicate the photographs. Wedding photos document the day with everything perfectly visible in bright colours (or black and white) while videography tells a more compelling story of the day using images that don’t need to be perfectly exposed. Light, angles, and composition work together to create beautiful big-day memories – storytelling is key. Loved ones can be captured with video, the way they laugh or dance, meaning you can relive memories of the people you love. Having all of your friends and family together in one place doesn’t happen often. Finally, videos can be shared on social media and with guests who couldn’t attend. What a wonderful reminder of the biggest day of your life! All images courtesy of unsplash.com PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEOGRAPHY 47

Whether you’re eloping or planning a small, micro wedding, these ideas will inspire you PERFECTLY FORMED Small but Intimate weddings are a trend that’s set to stay throughout 2026. They allow couples to exchange their vows in unique settings, and there are benefits to either eloping together or just being surrounded by a handful of your treasured loved ones. Having an intimate wedding is a smart way to save money and to avoid a lengthy engagement, plus they have the added option of being flexible. It’s an opportunity to create a celebration that’s personal to you both, not to mention unforgettable. It’s easy to personalise the entire day when it’s small, and those all-important special moments with your loved ones will be felt in a relaxed, secure and cosy atmosphere. Ideas for smaller ceremonies include secluded woodland spots, beautiful beaches, flower-filled gardens and the grounds of a boutique hotel. They can be conducted by a celebrant or an in-house registrar, making them a flexible choice. Ideas for elopement, micro or small reception gatherings include a picnic, afternoon tea, or a laid-back brunch. With an intimate wedding, you can both focus on the things that matter, with the wedding reflecting your personalities. They are less stressful to plan with fewer things to consider.
