An Essex Wedding - July/August 2026 (Issue 129)

TO “I DO” From One Swipe James and Olivia’s wedding at Gosfield Hall combined black-tie elegance, soft champagne tones, and a proposal story they’ll never forget. Images courtesy of Boutique Weddings James and Olivia met on a dating app over eight years ago. One Saturday morning, Olivia downloaded the app and within a few swipes, James appeared. She was instantly drawn to him and made the first move, sending him a message. As it turned out, James was the first - and only person she ever spoke to on the app. Within a week, they had their first date. What makes their story even more special is that James had been planning to delete the app that very day. Had Olivia not downloaded it when she did, they may never have crossed paths. In 2023, James proposed during a trip to Lake Como. After an early morning train from Milan thanks to unexpected train strikes, they arrived hours before check-in and decided to explore. Olivia suggested hiking to Como’s famous lighthouse, unaware that James had planned to propose there the following day. The ‘short scenic walk’ quickly turned into a brutal uphill hike in the blazing sun, one of the hardest things they’d ever done together. When they finally reached the top, they discovered there had been a cable car the entire time. After laughing at their mistake, they found a quiet secluded lookout with a bench overlooking the lake. There, James asked Olivia to marry him, making every exhausting step completely worth it. Needless to say, they took the cable car back down. THE VENUE OF DREAMS Gosfield Hall was only the second venue the couple viewed, and they knew straight away it was the one. Olivia says, “We were completely blown away by how stunning it was, especially the bridal suite. Getting ready there on the morning of our wedding truly felt like a dream. The venue has such a classic, elegant charm, which perfectly matched the style I envisioned. We also wanted somewhere local to us in Essex, and Gosfield Hall ticked every single box.” Olivia and James became Mr and Mrs Hayter on 9th November 2025. Olivia chose a classic and timeless wedding style, centred around an elegant champagne colour palette. She carried a bouquet of white calla lilies, while the bridesmaids’ held arrangements of white, pink, and caramel roses. For the ceremony, flower bowls lined the aisle, leading to a broken floral arch filled with the same roses to tie everything together. After the ceremony, the floral arrangements were repurposed as table centrepieces, paired with candles to create a soft, romantic atmosphere for the reception. DRESSED TO IMPRESS Olivia recalls, “I wore the Winter gown by Made with Love. I personalised it by adding pearl buttons down the back and a few along the sleeves. Those little details became my favourite part of the dress and the pearls tied in so perfectly with our theme. I wore the Aurelie 65 Jimmy Choo shoes, the pearls on the shoes matched my dress so perfectly. In the evening I changed into a satin halterneck dress from Meshki for a more relaxed and comfortable look. My wedding dress was actually the very first one I tried on. I’d been so drawn to it when I saw it online, and when I tried it on, I genuinely felt something special, something I hadn’t felt with any other dress. I did visit a second bridal boutique just to explore other options, but that experience only confirmed that the Winter dress was the one.” James embraced a timeless black-tie look, wearing a classic black tuxedo complete with a waistcoat and black bow tie. Adding a personal touch, his wedding day scent was Endymion by Penhaligon’s — a rich, elegant fragrance that perfectly suited the occasion. The groomsmen complemented the look in matching black tuxedos, creating a sleek and polished wedding party aesthetic. Olivia’s bridesmaids wore satin champagne dresses from Six Stories, paired with delicate gold kitten heels. TIME TO CELEBRATE Olivia and James opted for a string quartet to perform, which created the most romantic atmosphere. They also had an oldschool video camera for guests to use so they could record their own little moments and memories from the day. As well as this, they hired an audio guestbook where guests could pick up a phone and leave a message which our guests loved. MEMORABLE MOMENTS “Our wedding day was truly perfect. Everything ran smoothly and went to plan. The whole day felt like one big highlight. But if I had to choose one moment, it would be when James and I were announced as husband and wife. I had the biggest smile on my face in that moment.” REAL WEDDINGS 23
