IS LOVE All you need Set to a soundtrack of live music and ‘good vibes only’, Becky and George Rutherford said “I do” at Mulberry House Images courtesy of Millie Short Photography George popped the question to Becky in The Big Apple. In her own words, Becky describes the occasion. “It’s a ridiculous story, I will admit. We went to NYC for my birthday – on my actual birthday he woke up so early and demanded I get up as he had jetlag and couldn’t sleep. We got a cab to Central Park, found a bakery and got coffees and croissants and went for a walk. He ‘found’ a little opening and we went down some hidden steps to Wagners Cove, a little wooden gazebo completely private and hidden in the middle of Central Park. He let me open my cards and presents we’d brought from home before propping up his phone to take a ‘birthday photo’. Then he got down and one knee and asked the big question. I was in shock and so happy but all I say when I could finally speak is that he had green pen all over his nose from the lid of his coffee where they had written! Once removed we then spent about £50 on internet data Facetiming our family and friends – lots of tears!” From then on, wedding planning commenced! Becky remembers, “From the moment we looked at Mulberry House, we knew it was the venue for us. The team looked after us so well, from the housekeeping to the co-ordinators. Plus, the outside wooden gazebo reminded us of Wagners Cove.” On 12th September 2025, the pair became Mr and Mrs Rutherford. DRESSED TO IMPRESS The couple wanted to support local businesses as much as possible. Becky says, “The Dressmaker in Leigh – specifically Kim, made my dress from scratch. Me and my mum picked every detail from the fabric, to the buttons and the style. These are such special memories I’ll never forget. Kim also handmade my veil.” George chose a fitted suit with bow tie from Charles Tyrwhitt with matching waistcoat, teamed with Doc Marten shoes and The Beatles cufflinks. A fun nod to his role as a drummer in his band, The Maxibrites. TIME TO CELEBRATE With one half of the couple being a drummer, it was only fitting that live music filled the day. A live portrait artist at the reception was an added highlight and a firm favourite with guests. Becky adds, “There are so many memorable moments to choose from I don’t think I could pick just one. The energy and atmosphere was electric. Like nothing I’ve ever experienced. We were drunk on happiness.” WORDS OF WISDOM “It’s hardcore sometimes and you just need to roll with it and focus on what’s important. We stayed at the venue the night before and had dinner there. It was worth every penny because it meant we were so relaxed with no rushing in the morning.” REAL WEDDINGS 21

Where wedding memories meet art For Tom Halliday Photography, wedding photography is about feeling, atmosphere, and narrative. With a talent for capturing dramatic skies, his images often become statement pieces. Here, Tom tells us more... What does a typical wedding day look like for you? A typical wedding day for me is a blend of quiet observation and relaxed, creative storytelling. I usually begin with the preparations, where I focus less on posed moments and more on the atmosphere, like the energy in the room, the details, the laughter, and those small, meaningful interactions that tell the real story of the day. I work calmly and unobtrusively, allowing things to unfold naturally while still gently guiding when needed. Throughout the ceremony and reception, my approach is very moments-led. I’m always watching for authentic connections, glances, reactions, emotions. I love being part of that energy rather than disrupting it. When it comes to couple portraits, that’s where my more editorial eye comes into play. I’ll often steal the couple away for a few minutes to create something a little more cinematic and epic, playing with light, movement, and composition. While still keeping things relaxed and true to who they are. As the evening unfolds, I continue documenting the party as it happens, capturing the spontaneity, the dancing, and the celebrations right up to the final moments of the night. How do you help couples feel relaxed in front of the camera? I get them to do silly things to create laughter, and I tell them not to take it too seriously. I think the biggest part of helping couples feel relaxed is taking the pressure off altogether. I’m very open from the start that I don’t want them to ‘pose’ or perform. I want them to be themselves. I’m very clear that this isn’t about perfection or looking like models, it’s about enjoying the moment together. What advice do you give couples to get the most out of their wedding photos? My biggest piece of advice is to have a clear vision for your day, but don’t feel too much pressure from things you’ve seen elsewhere. Inspiration is wonderful, but your wedding and your story is completely unique, and your photographs will be too. I also encourage couples to focus on enjoying their day rather than trying to ‘stage’ it for the camera. The best photos come from real moments, real emotions, and real connections, so the more you can relax and let the day flow naturally, the better your images will be. What’s the most emotionally powerful moment you try to capture on a wedding day? There isn’t just one moment. During the ceremony, I’m drawn to the quiet, heartfelt exchanges: the couple’s reactions to each other, the way their families look at them. It’s a deeply personal part of the day, and the emotions are often raw and genuine. Later on, the speeches bring a different kind of emotion, more storytelling, humour, and nostalgia. That mix of laughter, tears, and shared memories can be incredibly moving. How do you handle unexpected challenges? Unexpected challenges are just part of wedding photography, and honestly, they’re often where some of the most memorable images come from. If the weather changes, rain, wind, or bright sun, I don’t see that as a problem to fight against, but something to embrace and adapt to with creatively. I always encourage couples to think of the weather as part of their story rather than an obstacle. Rain can be dramatic and romantic, strong sunlight can be bold and cinematic, and overcast skies can be soft and atmospheric. With timeline changes, I stay flexible and calm, adapting as the day unfolds. Weddings rarely run exactly to plan, and that’s okay, my job is to move with it, not stress about it. Do you have a signature shot or moment you’re known for? I wouldn’t say I have one single ‘signature shot’ as such, my work is more about the overall feeling and story of the day rather than a formulaic moment. That said, I’ve noticed that couples are often especially drawn to my images featuring dramatic skies. Many couples choose one of these as a statement image for their home, which I love it means their wedding memory lives beyond the album and becomes something they can enjoy every day on their wall. An intimate yet opulent wedding story inspired by velvet, where rich texture, romance, and trusted collaboration creates something truly timeless. CRIMSON WHISPERS Shoot organiser and MUA Lauren Jones had a vision to merge rich, tactile luxury with a modern, editorial edge, and with a venue like Tuffon Hall and a creative dream team behind her, it soon came to life. Lauren says, “I’d been drawn to the idea of velvet for a while — not just as a fabric, but as a mood. It has this beautiful duality: soft and romantic, yet bold and dramatic. I wanted to create a visual story that felt indulgent and glamorous without losing that sense of intimacy and warmth. The shoot came together through a lovely mix of collaboration, trust, and creativity. Everyone brought their own artistry to the concept, elevating it beyond what I’d imagined. What started as a small spark of inspiration grew into a cohesive, luxurious editorial that showcases what can happen when talented suppliers come together around a shared vision.” LOCAL INSPIRATION 31

Something borrowed, something blue Lucy and Ryan Boswell married at Braxted Park Estate on 20th June 2024 Images courtesy of Boutique Weddings 36
REAL WEDDINGS 37
Ryan and Lucy first crossed paths at secondary school, just 11 years old. Life carried on and years later, at 19, Ryan got back in touch and asked Lucy out on a date. From that moment on, they’ve been inseparable. In July 2022, while on holiday together in Gran Canaria, Ryan planned the most unforgettable surprise. With the help of a lovely Spanish couple, armed with Google Translate, he asked them to secretly capture the moment on film. As they stood on the beach, Ryan asked Lucy to look out at something in the distance. Completely unaware, she turned… and when she looked back, he was down on one knee, asking for her hand in marriage. Of course, she said yes. To this day, the Spanish couple still message the pair every year, a sweet reminder of the moment their forever began. SETTING THE SCENE Braxted Park Estate’s impressive driveway is what sold the venue straight away. First impressions certainly count! From that moment, the staff, the space and the general ambience continued to tick all the boxes. The focal colour of the day was baby blue, Lucy’s ‘something blue’ - woven beautifully throughout, from the invitations to the bridesmaids’ dresses. The choice also carried special significance, as it honoured the memory of Ryan’s grandfather, Harry, for whom the same shade was used at his funeral. DRESSED TO IMPRESS Lucy wore a Mori Lee dress from Bellissimma Weddings. Lucy remembers, “I knew it was the one when I started to become very emotional, and then 38
I looked over to my maid of honour and she was crying, then looked at both our mums and they were crying too! Ryan wore a bespoke grey Moss Bros suit, with a light blue handkerchief and tie.” TIME TO CELEBRATE Reception drinks flowed freely, featuring Lucy’s favourite, the classic Cosmopolitan, alongside Ryan’s drink of choice, bottles of Moretti. Guests mingled over canapés of chicken skewers and mini beef Yorkshire puddings, all while enjoying the sounds of talented wedding singer, Angie Diggens. A weddingthemed crazy golf course added a playful touch, ensuring there was never a dull moment. As evening fell, the celebration shifted firmly into party mode. The DJ took to the decks, the dancefloor filled, and slices of pizza kept guests fuelled well into the night. WORDS OF WISDOM Lucy says, “If you’re having an outdoor ceremony, plant a sausage the night before! The weather was perfect. And also, try not to worry about things that could go wrong, or keeping everyone happy, the morning of the wedding you just won’t care at all.” REAL WEDDINGS 39

Wedding Insurance WedCover provides expert guidance to help keep your wedding day stress-free and unforgettable, whatever happens. 1. What is wedding insurance and why should I purchase it? Wedding insurance is designed to offer you financial protection for one of the most important and special events in your life. The policy provides cover for financial losses due to illness, accidents or other unforeseen events such as a supplier failing to fulfil their commitments due to financial failure, either in the build up to or on your wedding day, which can be very expensive. The policy from WedCover will also cover civil or renewal of vows ceremonies. 2. Does the policy cover my wedding day and honeymoon? Your wedding insurance policy will cover your ceremony and reception. WedCover offers optional honeymoon cover which will cover any irrecoverable travel or accommodation costs for a honeymoon you’ve paid for, if the wedding has been cancelled. It is important to ensure you have adequate travel insurance in place to cover other eventualities such as medical expenses. 3. Would my engagement rings and wedding rings be covered? Yes, WedCover will cover your wedding rings against loss, theft or damage. 4. When should I organise my wedding insurance? We recommend taking out wedding insurance as soon as soon as possible or on the same day you book your venue, become committed to make payments or when you start paying deposits or make other payments. You can purchase a policy up to 24 months in advance and the price remains the same, meaning no hidden costs. 5. What’s your top tip for those planning their nuptials? 1. Set your budget based on affordability, and split these into categories (venue, flowers, dress, photographer etc). Remember to allow 10-15% extra for any hidden costs. 2. Book your venue early as popular venues can book up 12-24 months in advance. 3. Decide what matters most to you and prioritise – food, photos, live music or band, venue. 4. Choose a photographer and videographer remembering in mind these photos are those which you can look at forever, while a videographer can capture heart felt moments for those who may not be with us in the future. 5. Remember the timeline – there’s lots to do and a wedding date can creep up on you quicker than you think. Finally…don’t forget your wedding insurance as this can protect against the unexpected such as the financial failure of suppliers or cancellation of a venue. Get a quote from WedCover today.
